Michigan vs. VCU Postgame (snowflakes) Thread
the woman cello player is all like "Hmm??" with piqued interest right as Stephen says it, but then is all like "Um no thanks."
It's about to be a blizzard.
I like basketball.
I need a cigarette, and I don't even smoke.
In 19 years
I like non-conference games better
Can we change the rules so this post can be
(Score: 2000 Normal)
jayhawks or heels
Heels? I think they are weaker.
rather avoid withey
Jayhawks are going to be like MSU and Heels are going to be like Illinois. I like our chances better against NC.
It's nice to see this team live to their potential. Its seems like we are peaking at the right time....SWEET 16!!!!!!!!!
You just scared my dog
I'm just over 8 1/2 hours in. So good.
Basketball is cool
It's nice to see this team live up to their potential. Its seems like we are peaking at the right time....SWEET 16!!!!!!!!!
For the pos-bang. I like that the team can win with Burke not playing out of his mind. He played well, but others have contributed more in the first two games. Sweet Sixteen!
Mitch McGary destroys your havoc with rays of endless energy.
my snowflacks are filled with sunshine and whiskey and laughter!
the whisky wagon in 3, 2, 1....
Well, that was fun.
McGary is a fire breathing beast. Burke has been nicked up and we have still been fucking shit up. I want Holyfield!!
HAIL TO MITCH MCGARY.. DUDE SHOWED UP TODAY
Just spinning with euphoria... WOOOOOHOOOOOO
That is all.
and a great win
Sweet Sixteen, Baby! Let's go Tar Heels!
That. Was. FUN.
Also, I'm here for the posbang
SWEET 16 SWEET 16 SWEET 16!!!
Is that Mitch and Spike?
What a time for McGary to go off!
Gonna party like its 1994!!
Keep playing this level of defense and Atlanta is looking promising!
so that was why McGary's verbal was muppet-worthy...
he looked like the good Cody Zeller today; Derrick Walton is rubbing his hands together with a big grin right now
So thats what that pick McGary set was called?
A10, meet big ten. Boom bitches.
Someone else seems to be stepping up in each game so far. Who's it going to be next week?
The rest of the day is going to be a lot more fun to watch with an easy win
All of 'em.
REPLIED TO THE WRONG POST DON'T CARE POSBANG WOOOO WHISKEY
His ball handling was great. I remember when some people were scratching their heads when Michigan offered him.
He is such a useful player. His handle is so solid. He will probably never be a starter but always a contributor.
Disagree. He might start next year. If not, and if Walton only plays two years (I'm optimistic about him), imagining a senior Spike is a very nice thought.
Maybe two PG starting offense in three years.
Exactly. I could see him being used like Hulls at IU. Slid over once Yogi came on board.
Great all around game...really impressed with Spike Albrecht...great with the ball and made some pretty nice passes.
Also, more ripped jerseys? And they havent replaced the one damaged against Minnesota apparently.
Spike with the crazy handle, that was fun.
I love everyone. Sweet Sixteen.
Hey look your Kitchens on fire
MM: 10/11, 21 pts, 14 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal.
That is simply incredible. What a great time for Mitch to show up big. I predict he doesn't let up in the coming games. That's right, games, plural.
So his only miss was that attempted one on one drive floater? Hhaha big puppy gon pup
Feels great to still have interest for the 2nd weekend. The way it ought to be.
The team showed today that if their heads are right, they can beat anyone in the country.
The only thing that would make this day better is watching State get eliminated in front of a bunch of Michigan fans.
State is rife for upset considering Memphis is a good team
I have Memphis winning that game in the bracket
I think their game will go similarly to ours. Memphis likes to run the court and a disciplined team can beat them.
As fun as that would be, I really want to see the B1G continue to win in the tournament. Even if it means another win or two for Sparty.
Keep racking up the wins.
But a word of warning to MSU & OSU. You might want to lose before you get pummeled by Michigan.
at neutral sites and counting...
Does that include our loss to Wisconsin at the United Center?
McGary is like a taller, whiter Kenneth Faried.
McGary plays under the rim a lot more.
But effort wise, yes. Maybe Faried meets Hansbrough?
I like not playing Big Ten teams. Maybe we should join what's left of the ACC.
BOILING WATER RULES!!!!!
Happier than I am right now. This team has been in hiding since 18 game into the regular season and what a game to break back out.
Loved that all the Seniors got a taste I the big dance, classy. What a game!
He didn't play great in the B1G Tourney, and perhaps he's slipped to the #3 big man, but zero minutes? He must be in the doghouse for something more than his play.
Like an ankle injury? It's best to rest him til he's back up to full strength - we'll need him.
Saving the best for the last run.
As long as we continue to win, I will continue to post this glorious GIF.
EFF YO COUCH, VCU!
Where do I get a Detroit v. Everybody sweathshirt?
There were rare moments of rage, maybe 3 or 4 possessions.
Other than that, it was so much fun to watch. This is a game that should be shown every fall to the new team with an intro: This Is Michigan Basketball
We kinda have 3 of the best shooters in the Big Ten. Not sure if asking for Glen Rice 2.0 is realistic...
I would like to thank this team for their play today.
That was the single greatest focus, energy, effort and EXECUTION I've seen in a looong time.
Coach B may have just coached his best game at Michigan. He's a great coach, but I don't think most people will realize what we did to negate VCU's pressure. Also, the rotation and subtitutions were 100% on point.
To watch McGary play like a man. To see THJ's leadership. Burke making plays. Albrecht coming in and holding his own. GRIII captializing. Stauskas playing solid D and spacing the floor...also making plays.
That was beautiful to watch. Go Blue everyone, GO BLUE!
Midway through the 2nd half when THJ went nuts capped by that dunk, I almost got a little misty-eyed. We forget how much he struggled last year. His game is art now, his intensity on defense, he's become a ball-handler, his shot selection, barking out orders on offense and defense. For as much as McGary did, THJ played one hell of a game.
This team executed like I haven't seen.
Scott Van Pelt always says "how good is your good?" What that was Michigan playing some of its best basketball. I challenge ANY team in the country to match that if we bring that every night. 2 maybe 3 teams would've been able to keep up with the way Michigan played today.
Again, Go Blue everyone, GO BLUE!
But, Shaka Smart will out coach, er, never mind.
What was he going to do? Hey, let's play half-court basketball?
VCU's press will expose a lot of teams. But against the best point guard in the country and two of the best finishers in the country, VCU's style put Michigan in advantageous situations.
That was fun. And the outcome I was hoping for. Beat the press and play easy basketball w/ numbers.
Not sure how this makes Shaka a bad coach or even a coach worth being made fun of.
Just a bad draw...but he's got VC freaking U as a 5-seed and I didn't see one player on their team that coach start for Michigan.
My comment didn't question his coaching, rather it was to mock the conventional thoughts of sports talk, print and other comments found in the World Wide Web.
Talk before the game. Then Beilein went all Obi-wan on Shaka and left him in a pool of lava.
on anyone, but I did like it today. VCU never called off the dogs on an undermanned Akron team Thursday and that was inexcusable. They deserved to be punished today, and Michigan punished them.
We didn't run up the score. We were on pace to drop about 90 on them at one point and finished with 78. Beilein's substitution with 1:15 to go was how he (and most other coaches) always does it.
Amen. Karma is a bitch.
I don't think this exposes Smart as a fraud or anything, but the hype train surrounding the guy was getting ridiculous. He's a good mid-major coach who had the run of his life two years ago. He's not John Wooden Part II. His halfcourt offense and defense are pretty average. Beat his press and you beat his teams.
I want to expand on thse thoughts cause I'm so damn excited!
First, let's be honest, we haven't played well in over a month.
I said this after the SDSU game. The last great game we played was @ IU without J-Mo. Yes, we lost that game, but in that atmosphere, against that team, College Gameday, we held our own.
We played a 2nd half at home vs. Iowa (Game, Stauskas) and @ Northwestern where we executed on this level. Obviously during the non-conference we were playing at a pretty high level.
But this is different. This is in the NCAA Tournament and vs. one of the better teams in the country. What we did, wow, I've been watching basketball awhile and that was amazing.
AND DON'T COMPARE THIS TO THE TENNESSEE GAME! That Tennessee team was terrible. This VCU team is much better.
Now, "moar thoughts."
Coach B - I said it above, this may have been his best coached game at Michigan. Both in preparation and "in-game." Just how we got the ball in bounds vs. the press...have THJ pass it in and immediately pass it back to THJ and let him bring the ball up the floor. That wrinkle was HUGE early on and really got us in rhythm.
Then in-game. Our subs were amazing. We rode the starters, then when the game got tight early on we put LeVert in and he was out of control, nothing against him, just played like a freshman. We went about 4 minutes of a mini drought and the VCU pressure was picking up steam. Just as I think "we've got to get Spike in." I see him run to the scorer's table. We do this, it settles things down and we go on a huge run. The McGary-Horford subs were PERFECT. The usage of the longer media timeouts was PERFECT.
Beilein had this team prepare and he and his staff put on a CLINIC in game with their playcalls (we got great looks on in-bounds plays late in the shot clock, that's coaching).
Burke - He had that stretch early in the 2nd half where I thought he was WAY too lazy and careless, but I also wonder if his back tightened up at halftime. Other than that first 4 minutes of the 2nd half...he led this team like the Trey Burke of old. I think he's regained confidence in his teammates and he's passing the ball better than he has all year.
THJ - I said back when we beat WVU that he may be the best all-around guard in the country and I got laughed at. Hardaway shoots, he drives, he defends, he leads, he does everything you want/need. I stand by that statement. I'm not saying he's the best player or even the best guard or best SG. I just think THJ is REALLY good at a lot of things, I don't see any holes in his game.
Stauskas - His shot still isn't falling, but his defense is literally 100x better than it was 3 months ago and he spaces the floor as good as anyone. He also has improved as a ball-handler and he attacks the rim.
GRIII - I said in the pre-game thread he needed to have a great game getting behind the defense when we break the press. He did just that. He's got a new look on his face, a confidence. He's waving his hands and showing energy now too. He's so freaking talented...when he plays with energy, it's easy to see why people think he's the top NBA prospect (he's still a year away, but you can see it).
McGary - You all saw it, no need to comment.
Horford - I thought he calmed down after his first few minutes. He was disappointed in how he played when he first got in and I was happy to see him slam his towel on the ground. He came back and gave us very good minutes when McGary was gettting a breather.
Albrecht - Was that Bob Cousy? For a second, I wanted to say "Derrick Walton, who?!" But I quickly calmed myself. That said, he played one HELL of a game. He doesn't back down from ANYONE and I love his aggressiveness. He also has that ball on a string. What a great pickup by Beilein. That Burke/Albrecht lineup vs. pressure is exactly what we needed and Spike delivered.
All in all, this was just a total team effort. I have absolutely NOTHING to even nitpick at...and I love to nitpick. I just hope we bring that level of energy for every game. You can control effort, hustle and energy even if the ball isn't going through the net. You can execute and get good looks even if the shot is off. Our guys just need to do that and Coach B will get the right guys on the floor to score. Execution is always key, today we executed in all facets.
What a great game. It seemed everybody on Michigan played well.
G O B L U E !!!!!
a little girl!
Just one thing - can Adidas get this team some replacement jerseys please???
I'd rather anyone besides Adidas get them some replacement jerseys
Because everyone has shitty concept jerseys and everyone's jerseys tear.
But we're Michigan and we're supposed to be the lead school for Adidas. If we have to wear last year's jerseys, someone should be fired. I mean that. They should be ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSED if we don't have what we need in the fricking NCAA Tournament.
Posbang me with the lights on.
Great liveblog, better game. Not sure if I got more excited for Mcgary's screens or Mclimans 3-point heave. Probably the heave.
Spoke really impressed me today. Always thought that the was just serviceable...showed me a lot more than that today.
THAT WAS AWESOME
holy shit this is great. +1 to you my friend.
It is with this win that we now go to a place we have not been in nearly 20 years, if I am not mistaken, and this is a good feeling.
Some final numbers:
|FG%||3FG%||FT%||Eff. FG%||Off. Reb. %|
We also racked up 17 assists, and Trey had seven of them . Once again, it was great to see him facilitating the offense, but he also was 6-14 and 2-6 from downtown, so he was contribution to the scoring in a Trey manner as well.
Mitch McGary...wow...10-11, 14 rebounds and 21 points. Awesome performance by Mitch. Also, road grading like a lineman here and there was a nice touch.
Mitch MF McGary, 21 pts, 10-11 FG and 1-1 FT, 14 rbs (4 offensive), 1 asst, 1 steal, 2 TO, only 1 foul.
Mitch McGary 10/11 shooting...only miss was an off balance layup attempt.
So many thoughts right now:
-John Beilein will be teaching the 'how to beat the press' clinic this year, tickets available online
-Mitch McGary picked a damn good time to peak. He's so far and away our best big right now it's not even close
-This team's best will beat anyone in the country. We just need to keep it up now
-That screen where McGary just about killed the VCU guy was incredible
-Perhaps more incredible? Stauskas has a clean path to the basket, but instead of taking it he passes to THJ who does a reverse dunk. I lost my shit when that happened
watching online. I am so happy to see the community getting behind these guys.
starts w/ signing Trey Burke, THJ, GR3, & Mitch McGary.
Somebody needs to go through the old threads from the season and get a list of all the people whining and crying about Beilein not being able to coach, needs to be fired, needs to move on, won't take Michigan far. Then we can ban them from these types of threads.
I second that
a game like this makes me feel forgiving not vindictive. Almost.
This is a fan forum. There was legitimate reason to at least question why we weren't performing later in the season. I don't get the calls for Beilein to be fired, but you can't try to force people to think the same.
If every human was banned from saying something stupid, nobody could post.
Deal w it.
who know they said stupid shit
Not stupid to be disappointed with how they played to close out the Big Ten season. They did not look good then and were a defensive disaster, offense was stand around and wait for Trey to do something, glad you're having an I told you so moment right now, but get off your high horse. Michigan took great advantage of favorable match ups and it was fun to see them play to their potential, but none of that can be used to ret-con their earlier disappointing play. That said anything can happen in the tournament. Go Blue!!!!!
We're what 28-7?
Man, the coaches did a great job prepping the team to beat VCU's press. But hoooo boy, did Timmay and Mitch have a great game today. Tim beating the press early really took the pressure off and created some easy buckets. Mitch could be a huge wild card for us next weekend. He is much more athletic than people think and creates plays for everyone.
And hello again GRIII. Nice job these last two games of making some shots and easy buckets.
Very excited!! Even if we play Kansas, we can play with them. Burke will be key in that game however, and needs to work his game in the lane.
Taste like sugar. Mmmmmmmm.
McGary chose a real good time to have a career game. 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 floor burns. What an animal. Michigan is looking scary again.
You're really fucking on!
Awesome. Didn't know this one existed. Would gladly pay money or trade services for someone to make one for this year's bball team!
How can you have been a member here since the first day of the "new" format and not have seen this? I'm serious, it was all over the place during the RR years. Not being rude, just sayin.
This smith Announcer is having trouble saying McGarys name....its not that hard.
Who the HELL is McQuery??? These CBS analysts are tuurribleee
Kick ASSSSSSSS!!!! Dunk by Timmy sickest dunk I've sen in a while team as a whole played outstanding and MITCH!!! What a hustler he's gettn better n better every game!!!
is a beast.
If we could just get Stauskas' shot back...
Heh. That was awesome.
And now to root for the rest of the Big Ten, because I'm tired of hearing the rest of the country make fun of it. Make the Elite Eight the second Big Ten Tournament. But without fucking Wisconsin.
Looking for Sweet 16 Muppets!
just like the civil war...sorry Virginians
In VA here, tastes so sweet. Not Sugar Bowl sweet but close.
Hey Charles how's the mountain west
I have never been so happy to be wrong. I was with the media in thinking we would be knocked out of the tourney early.
You can all point at me and laugh, say "I told you so," whatever you want. I welcome it.
Haha told you so
To be a Michigan fan!! Go Blue!!!
I think UNC is playing well right now, would rather face an over-rated Kansas squad
The only reason UNC is seeded so low is cuz they were average at the beginning of the year. But right now they are much much better than their seeding.
UNC wants to play an up-tempo game. We're kind of good at that. KU has the best shot blocker in the country and plays excellent half court defense. No thanks.
to Beilein. Found a way to keep generating open looks out of their press.
Agree, this game showed how this team is really well coached. The haters out there should take notice (I now expect some haters gonna hate gifs)
can totally lose his voice, the world may be close to perfect...
If you don't find Chuck to be hilarious then I'm not sure you have a sense of humor.
but so was Picktown GoBlue's comment
Oh, the irony
I LOVE EVERYTHING
Supporting case has been VERY supporting. We now have five offensive threats on the court at tipoff. Doubt we will matchup as favorably the rest of the way as we did today. That said, Trey must have at least one dominating game in the tourney, and Kansas has had a tough time this year against the top PGs in the country.
And, do not rule out another game against the Gophers.
I'm hoping she's sweet 18... Creepy? Maybe. Do I care? No. WEON!!
Wow....just wow. Great game and Go Blue!
The only havoc in that game was the havoc Michigan put on VCU.
It's crazy sitting here watching Timmy hardaway JR do his thing in college. When I came to Miami he was like 9 or 10 yes old...
You know we played a hell of a game when our apparel supplier is our biggest complaint.
time for PANCAKES.
Prince is cooking.
Tell your friend the Internet was invented in 1993. So even in his jab of a congratulations, he's inaccurate.
That's pretty close for a MSU fan - within a decade probably counts in his book.
And tell'em Internet began in 1973... Not that facts ever got in the way for a Sparty.
Sorry, I digress, but sparky hasn't been to Pasadena since I was a junior in high school. I love to remind them every day. That roughing the kicker call is still fun to think about too. Silly Sparty....where dreams, and sofas, go to die.
Tell him thanks and you'll try to remember to congratulate him if MSU ever makes it to the Rose Bowl.
Why would you want him to get back to you?
is, as WolverineHistorian mentioned, that statement was inaccurate. However, for accuracy, I don't think they made the Rose Bowl since a few years BEFORE the invention of the Interwebs.
The team was obviously well prepared today...that was the least stressful game I've seen in what seems like 2 months!
So far I have youtubed and listened/danced alone to:
JayZ - on to the next one
Muppet hawain war chant
I'm a bit 2:30 drunk but it is awesome.
Spike played a great game, and was one hell of a play. He put the ball right on the money with his off hand...That was great to watch. I'm really happy for the team.
On the dribble behind the back too......
And he had a pretty sick behind the back, then spin to the lane. That was sick, the whole place went "Oooohh". Awesome.
I really hope we don't change our offense one bit for the next game. That will work against any team, not just the press. When we were dominating early in the year it was because everyone was moving and flowing to the basket. When we sucked it was because everyone was flat footed and waiting for something to happen. Even against a classic halfcourt D we've got to dictate the pace.
cya in Arlington!
Sweet sixteen!! Can't wait until Thursday.
Let's hope big Ten keeps it up.
Touching piece on Payne right now. Love it when sports are more than just a game..
I think McGary is good.
Word of the day calendar....
I love how the team played.
But it's not a huge surprise, is it? Haven't we been saying that this is a good matchup for Michigan, playing to its strengths? Haven't we said that once we get out of the physical, defensive B1G and it's libertarian officiating that Michigan would thrive?
And so it happened. The tournament is very much about matchups, and Michigan got two good ones to get to the Sweet Sixteen. I'm more pessimistic about the next two games, because KU and UF play to Michigan weaknesses, but I'm on board to enjoy another week of basketball talk.
What an awesome way to close things out in the state.
VCU's style was made-to-order for Michigan. While "Havoc" might put a lot of teams in stressful situations, it put Michigan in very advantageous situations given point guard Trey, finishers THJ & GR3, and other-guys-that-can-take-advantage-too McGary & Stauskus (MTJAS).
I agree that the next rounds will present less favorable style matchups. Other teams will take note of VCU's style versus Michigan and conclude "Don't do that" (Although I got downvoted for posting that before).
To remember our last Sweet 16, and it's just glorious. We looked like world destroyers and if we play like that every game, we're in damn good shape.
You must not have watched vintage Chicago Bulls playoff games when MJ and Pippen played together.
It only gets better.
Who is this McGrary they were keep mentioning on TV???
He averages 21 points and shoots over 90% from the field (10/11). He also sets a decent screen.
From my friend: "What happens when a Wolverine encounters a Ram ... Massacre!!"
That was fun. Straight up, from tip-off to finish. Going to be a tough match-up in Arlington against UNC/Kansas. Hope they celebrate for 24 hours and prepare next week for a good team. But man, to all the doubters about Michigan facing the vaunted press, to hell with ya!
1- Michigan Basketball win... CHECK
2- Michigan Hockey win... PENDING
3- Get laid at prom tonight... PENDING
Good luck though. I didn't get laid at prom, but I got drunk for the first time so it was a wash.
that wasn't a wash. . .
Meh, closer than you think.
The best part is that you get to tell your friends about it...but let's been honest, you don't know what you're doing until you're well into college.
Even college is overrated compared to those 4 years post-college. At least I hope it is for you guys.
Anyway, Michigan won...now THATS better than anything.
One of these is not like the others. Keep your pants on and maybe constrain the primal urge for your wife.
- signed, old fashion guy.
Use protection. We don't need a little one running around.
Co-sign. High school is too young. There's a time and place for everything and it's called college(South Park'd).
I thought it was at the end of the school year?
Jeez, high school was so long ago.
Wrap it up.
We were in the Thursday/Saturday pod while KU/NC are in the Friday/Sunday. When's our game next week?
Yes, I answered my own question. Thanks, internet!
That was the best they have looked all season, and yet Stauskas didn't have his shot and Burke turned it over seven times. If it all comes together at the same time...
Isn't that true for ~15 teams in the country? I feel like any elite team has the talent, effort, coaching, etc. to win it all. In a single elimination tournament, the one that wins is whoever gets lucky enough to get everything together at the right time.
It is true, but we are one of those teams and that is huge. When hoping for an improbable sports result, I've found that it is much more likely when the improbable team has shown at some point that they are capable of playing the game at the level required for success. It is much more futile when you are hoping to see a level of play that has not yet occurred.
Michigan has shown that it is capable of playing with and beating the best. There is reasonable hope that they can produce and sustain that level of play again. Contrast this with Michigan's hope to compete with Alabama in football last year.
I had an epiphany at halftime. The nice thing about playing a press team like that is this: When you're blowing up the press, they have nothing to fall back on. What are they going to do, not press? Okie dokie then. Shaka Smart had a couple wrinkles that gave us trouble on the first few possessions of the second half, but once Beilein made his adjustments and the players figured out what not to do, VCU was out of ammo.
(LMU 149 - UM 115)
I recalled the 1990 Loyola Marymount - UNLV game
(UNLV 131 LMU 101)
When you can get up-and-down the floor faster than the pressing team, handle the pressure, finish, and make good decisions when it's not there, it turns into shooting-fish-in-a-barrel.
I bet the committee thought this would be an entertaining, up-tempo matchup. I certainly was rivited to the screen. But the committee really screwed VCU, which would have caused havoc for a number of other teams..
that is all
Just looked at the stats.
Glenn Robinson III had a really quiet game and was far overshadowed by McGary. But his numbers were fantastic for the 2nd game in a row.
7-10 for 14 pts. 9 Rebs. 2 assists. 0 TO's. Made great decisions and made VCU pay for pressing.
Michigan by 1.
I think VCU would fare reasonably well in the B1G.
But not against UM.
How the hell does one predict individual games?
Young team handled a lot of pressure. More of that next week, please.
I loved the comparison of McGary to Laimbeer and Cowens. Laimbeer was the most annoying center ever. He would score in the lane, had an outside shot, and set rock solid picks. Cowens was an energy player. Mitch is in good company and loved his play today. A good big is a good thing.
I still say McGary is most like Tyler Hansborough. Psycho T.
I thought the Bill Lamberie (sp?) reference in the game was quite apt. Plays with a nasty streak and high energy. Of course, sans Bill's propensity to be a totally dirty (full disclosure coming from a Bulls fan) and pick fights.
Nice to be first up when you win! Looking forward to watching the next 7 games.
Also nice to play like that when you are the only game on.
Happy to watch msu...
I need a pic of the McGary Screen of Death.
And a GIF of Hardaway Sr's reaction to THJ's dunk
Might be the first time Tim sr. has ever smiled.
This is how I thought they would play two months ago. I have been disappointed lately but I am very happy with the way this team played today.
My freshman year (07-08), the team literally was sitting on the Diag begging people to watch a game. It's a trip to think about what we have accomplished in Belien's time here.
It's perfectly fine to know amaker was bad in Ann arbor but still think he's a classy guy and hugely successful at Harvard....
If memory serves, that was the year where there were literally only like 140 student season ticket holders, and were bribing us with free pizza to get people to show up. They were selling the bleacher tickets to the general public. The whole thing was sad.
I love everything!
I knew GR3 had a good game, I didn't realize it was a GREAT game:
14 pts (7/8 on 2s, 0/2 on 3s)
Played like a junior
Well, he is 20. The age of most Juniors. Ha
Did the "Havoc" get the flu from Akron on Thursday?
I don't think we even played our best game (except for McGary). We missed a ton of open 3s and small easy buckets. If we shot like we usually do, this would have been over before half.
A Great win. And i can't wait for Barkley to eat his words about the B1G being overrated.
now who do we want to win tomorrow? Kansas or UNC?
I'm pulling for UNC because I think we match up better against them.
I agree. Bill Self's Kansas teams are consistently very good in the tourney. I don't like our size disadvantage with their big man. We can play with anyone though, and that is not a stretch.
UNC would be a great game and very winnable.
Kansas was really looking off in their first game against WKU, so if that continues they could be beatable.
he did pick UM to beat VCU because of their guard play. And, when he was bashing the Big Ten, he said that UM and IU had great players and could do well, but the other teams were just good teams.
Outstanding job today boys! We play like this look out final four.
If they continue to play like they did today, very good chances they'll be coming to my 'hood soon.
loved mcgary's hustle and fire
loved burke fighting through the press and flashing brilliance.
great game for the victors.
who approved of this win
Fire beeline! Wait what? Oh not so much today?
Someone needs to record a Mitch McGary cover of this:
I said to a friend early in the game when we weren't up by much that I would only feel comfortable against VCU if we were up by 30 with 5 minutes to go. So proud of our guys for bringing that to fruition!
Mitch McGary probably should find himself a safehouse or a maybe a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because he's probably wanted for murder after that pick.
I did not know.
Meant to post in response to the invention of the Internet thread.
One of the best games I have seen Michigan play in a while.
Couldn't be happier right now.
It was beautiful.
I got my tickets for Arlington! Went for the Cowboy Classic last year, hopefully this trip will be a lot different. GO BLUE!
My second favorite player of this game behind McGary. He wasnt the second best player but what a great ball handler to have in there against a defense like VCU. Not sure why VCU never seemed to double team Spike?
I thought our coaching staff sucked at coaching defense?
I thought this team was just mediocre and not worth the time to watch?
I thought they were a collection of pathetic losers, chokers and quitters? "All of that talent and nothing to show for it."
I thought GRIII was a spoiled brat who could care less?
That was then. This is now!
What a great game by coach B.
Someone please put up a gif picture of that. My bones hurt in sympathy of his. Dang
To replace Morgan with McGsry. McGary is the real thing.
I can't remember another game all season where they played great in both halves. And Zoltanrules' prediction in the start of the open thread about spike, mcgary, and gr3 was almost scary accurate
ANyone else get distracted by her zipper top?
Yes. I'm so high off the win she looks hot!
Absolutely. Sensory overload.
posted earlier, but this needs a repost
if you want the backstory, it's here (and involves Chappelle)
Oh, and I love Jalen. I believe he did this exact same thing after the game today.
.gif that Memphis block please against MSU. That made me happy.
I AM SO EXCITED, WHAT'S GOING ON? WE ON WOOOOO!
I could watch this over and over again
Did you just draw this? It's hilarious
I would like to see pictures of these VCU cheerleaders everyone was talking about and GIFS of this Michigan performance as well!
I only caught one glimpse of the cheerleaders, but there were a couple with real, uh, top end, uh, savoriness.
This is one.
The guy above go said "The Replacements" wasn't that far off....
blantantly grab GRob and tear his jersey...
Where is the reverse jam one?
But I have an MGoVideo request.
Is there ANY WAY someone can upload video of the game from Spike's 3 in the 2nd half to THJ's rock the cradle dunk?
It was about 4 minutes of Michigan Basketball and I'd love to watch it forever.
How about Timmy slapping the floor? I jumped out of my seat when he did that.
No Timmy breakaway dunk gif?
I was very confident about this one. I loved that we drew VCU in the tourney. Not only were they the perfect matchup for us (a smallish team that is dependent on forcing turnovers and likes to play fast), but the media all stupidly jumped on their bandwagon and gave us a ton of bulletin-board material. Don't count out a Beilein team in the tourney.
