MGoBlue release-

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The athletic departments at the University of Michigan and the University of Texas have reached an agreement in principle to play the first-ever home-and-home football series between two of college football's most recognizable programs. The two schools rank first (Michigan, 912) and third (Texas, 876) in all-time victories.

The Wolverines will host the Longhorns at Michigan Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024. The return trip by Michigan to Austin will take place on Sept. 4, 2027.

"A match-up of this magnitude doesn't come along all that often, and when it does it's special for both programs and the great fans that support each institution," said Brady Hoke, U-M's J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Head Football Coach. "This also is a special series for all fans of college football, and I anticipate great games just like the first contest played between the two programs."

I'll be 29 when they play in 2024 in Ann Arbor. And when they play in 2027 in Austin, It will be the 100th anniversary of Michigan Stadium and the 30th anniversary of the 1997 national championship....

I just upvoted your OP for getting this information out to the rest of us so quickly.  One criticism of your post, though---I see no connection between the facts that 2027 is the 100th Anniversary of Michigan Stadium and that we're playing at Texas in 2027.   Would have been better to leave that out and instead only mention the 30th Anniversary of the 1997 NC Team.

Awesome? I guess? I just don't have the long-term thinking to get that excited about something that will last three hours and is half a lifetime away (Literally. 13 years is half the time I have been alive).

But for those with greater delayed gratification capacity than I, enjoy it!

2024 and 2027. The seniors in the 2024 game were born during the John Navarre era and are too young to remember Chad Henne, Mike Hart, or Vince Young. The freshmen in the 2027 game were born the year that Tate Forcier brought moxie to Michigan. This is the first season they could have any memory of at all. Someone old enough to remember the 1997 season will be in their thirties. Someone who played will be in their fifties.

I will be 52.   I will take my 21 year old daughter (who will be a Sr. at UofM) and my 18 year old daughter (who will be a Fr. at UofM) to Austin for this game.  Their boyfriends shall not be invited.

It has been declared, and therefore, it will be done....

Good, I'll hopefully have that self-driving car to take me to Austin.  Or maybe teleportation will be invented by then?  I like to think I'd still drive for the nostalgia of it.

Also: as of right now, Michigan will not play a MAC school until 9/12/2020 when they face Ball State.

That will be Michigan's longest stretch of not playing a MAC team since the 1944-1994 drought.

So here are the non-conference series against Power 5 Conference teams Michigan has scheduled

  • 2015- at Utah, vs Oregon State, vs BYU
  • 2016- vs Colorado
  • 2017- Florida (Cowboys Classic)
  • 2018- vs Arkansas
  • 2019- at Arkansas
  • 2020- at Washington, vs Virginia Tech
  • 2021- at Virginia Tech, vs Washington
  • 2022- vs UCLA
  • 2023- at UCLA
  • 2024- vs Texas
  • 2025- at Oklahoma
  • 2026- vs Oklahoma
  • 2027- vs Texas

What's even more puzzling is Michigan never playing LSU. Not once. Never played Clemson, either.

so it' set-

  • 2028- vs Georgia
  • 2029- at Georgia
  • 2030- vs LSU
  • 2031- at LSU
  • 2032- at Clemson
  • 2033- vs Clemson

My God.....2035 I'll be 40........
