It is also on ESPN 360.
Musturger and knight!
I was excited about seeing this game... my excitement dwindled.
Love this aggressiveness from DeShawn. I wish we'd seen more of it earlier in the season.
He has an entirely different gear right now. He is a beast.
He's on fire!
I think his draft stock may be improving based on the first 4 mintes. Really impressive first step.
Anthony has no gear.
Sims is going to have manny, i mean many points
Hightower is in the house.
Apparently the entire team minus Sims decided to stay in Ann Arbor with Manny
That's a bad matchup on the switch. Where have the hard back cuts gone in B's offense?
i have been really surprised at how little motion there has been on the UM offensive side of the ball recently. it's been one guy dribbling and four guys watching...brutal to watch much of the time...
geez...we are so inconsistent in the mental side of the game.
they have got to have someone else shoot the ball besides sims and stu's half court shots.
I'm still trying to figure out why the offense is being run 30 ft from the basket consistently. This is going to be over pretty early.
Whatever Purdue wants on the offensive end is what they're getting
Their biggest player is a jump shooter, they have no one else over 6' 5", and the one guy who can drive to the basket is suspended...
You can still run offenses with cuts closer to the basket(while keeping good spacing) to at least put a bit more pressure on help side. All they do to give any pretense of attack is the dribble back cut. Other than that, YIKES.
EDIT: I also acknowledge B is a good coach and knows what he is doing.
fuck this shit.
they're down by 10 without their best player while sims is playing his ass off. but you can't be bothered to keep the 'fuck this shit' for longer than 10-12 mins of playing time.
this game would be so different if michigan wore maize jerseys
was a night game and the team wore maize. UofM would probably be up 15 right now.
When you're the smaller team you can't be outworked to the ball.
OK, are they switching or hedging on screens. Gibson stays with the guy up top and Vogrich goes with him, too. Most of the time they switch but they both chased the ball and *easy bucket*
This is what we will be watching all year next year! That's brutal!
not exactly. sims and harris combined for a third of michigan's points against UConn and the offense will be reworked extensively. considering this team as a unit got zero days of practice without harris, given the friday suspension, that's kind of an ass face thing to say.
pretty uninspiring effort on defense...i fully recognize that i will be negged, but this performance summarizes exactly why i do not like JB or his system. with or without manny, theres zero pressure, no intensity, no motion, and tons of three with no opportunities for second chance points. this could get ugly...
I don't think there's been a lack of effort on defense. Even Knight praised how hard they were closing out on shots. Purdue's guys are taller and stronger at every position other than Sims maybe being stronger at the 5. This is an athletic and talent mismatch, not effort in my opinion.
So, all the pressure against UCONN against a team much taller than us, wasn't his system. The intensity that brought the win, not his system. The threes that went down and ultimately gave us the advantage, not his system. His system is predicated on making threes. We're not making them today. It's a little more difficult to fully run your system without the player you spend the most time practicing it with. Don't get me wrong. It's not working today, but we'll talk when this team wins a big game.
Wow. Ick. Yuck.
Very close to the remote spike. Wait for it, wait for it. This is so damn frustrating!
they gave Beilien's bum ass an extension. The Bball will never be good while he is there.
Thanks, that was insightful.
So who was coaching the team last season?
somewhat of a fluke. They barely made it in and beat clemson team that has not been out of the first round in 100 years. What I'm saying is this guy hasn't brought in any talent. That is proven night in and out. He also allows his teams to collapse at the wrong times.
That "fluke" was better than any season our program had in the 10 years before that. As for "collapsing at the wrong times," I distinctly remember last year's team rallying late in the season and scoring huge wins against Purdue and at Minnesota, but maybe I'm imagining it.
was awful and didn't M have some NCAA problems? If so, that will destroy a program ask Caliparri. The thing is where will the team be this year? Keep in mind you only lost 2 walk on players. That should say a lot.
Keep in mind you only lost 2 walk on players. That should say a lot.
Thanks for visiting RCMB. Why don't you create another 5 page game thread about a team you claim to be overwhelmingly better than.
Im not a troll. Im not a fan of Beilin, but still supporter the program. I'm sure I have been a M fan longer than many of you. So go somewhere and calm yourself.
Amaker. No 'C.' Good job!
He's gone and that's what matters.
is the key word here. Teams should progress not regress when they have had more time in your system.
Actually, not so true. The 2004 team that won the NIT was definitely better than last year's team, they just weren't eligible for the ncaa tourney because of ncaa sanctions.
Also, last year's success was just as much thanks to Amaker as it was to Belein considering Amaker is the one who brought Deshawn and Manny in.
is there a "right" time to allow his team to collapse?
to let it happen twice is bad, especially to NW.
Plz go better than this. kthnxbye
Sims looks gassed (not surprising given his role in the game). I wonder if the change in S&C coaches has been more of a negative than we thought.
Anthony Wright:Our best option at big forward::Mary Kate Olson:Our best option at nose tackle
Anywhere,, struggle up the court each time. Hopefully we can learn from this with the Manny suspension included.
It became apparent fairly early on in the season that Michigan did not have enough athletic players to compete with upper echelon teams. This game minus Manny, Michigan looks terrible. Let this be a lesson to all those who claim that Coach B's system would work better w/o Manny. It doesn't. You need to have guys who can create shots for themselves. Or draw attention and create for others.
Talent wins. Well coached talent wins championships. Well coached medicore talent has its moments, but will never win championships. Talent is coming and will continue to come, I am confident.
but, what talent is coming?
Smotrycz, Hardaway, Brundidge, and possibly Zeigler and Horford. And don't worry, you don't have to say what you said, everyone already knows you're an ass.
Besides Michigan who else wanted them? My point is we didn't have to beat anyone for these guys. Just look at what he has brought in, and then call yourself an ass because you know don't know much about the guys coming in.
Enlighten me about Smotryz, Brundidge, and Hardaway
Hardaway was also offered by Minn. That's it. For all the praise Smotryz gets his only offers are Northwestern and Oregon State. Michigan was Brundidge's only offer. Don't get me wrong. I hope that these guys really pan out, but as of right now, I'm not impressed.
You told me nothing that I couldn't just go onto a recruiting website to find out. If you are going to do that, you might think that the fact that Smotrycz and Morris being rated in the top 100 players in the nation on those very same sites might mean something. Also, Brundidge didn't have any offers because he is only a junior. MSU was recruiting him heavily and didn't offer him because he committed to UM so early. I guess that means he sucks, right? I mean, he didn't have a single other offer so he blows.
I wasn't even including Morris or Vogrich. Tell me how Beilein is not pulling in some talented players? Is offers the only thing you base your assessment of Beilein's recruiting off? By the way, I assume you know quite a bit about all of our incoming recruits because you have watched them numerous times, right?
i'm not trying to be an ass...i'm legitimately curious what talent you think is coming that will catapult this team into - at minimum - conference contenders?
also, i don't want to put words in your mouth, but from reading your post, one of the takeaways i had was that the talent is simply not here yet. while we definitely have gaps at certain positions, we do have two future NBA players on the team. moreover, UM only lost two walk-ons from its tourney team last year...they were talented enough to get to the tourney last year, how are they not improving this year?
why the neg??? i wasn't inciting any arguments...i was asking a question and making a valid, factual point.
some people do on here. You ask a legit question and they get offended. My point is Beilein hasn't brought real talent in. Stu can shoot, but that's about it. Novak plays hard and I love his game, but that's about it. You will never see D. Morris real game because his system won't let him get out in the open floor and get loose. Morris has street in his game but you'll never see it.
You realize that he has had 2 full classes after taking over a team that not only has less scholarships to give because of sanctions but hadn't made the tournament in 10 years? You think the top players in the country just want to come here because they like Chrysler? The fact that Beilein has already pulled in 3 top 150 players with a top 25 guy seriously considering coming here is reason enough to think talented players are starting to notice something going on in Ann Arbor. But please, go on with your John Beilein hating. It is fun to see you reply and get negged into the ground.
Negs really hurt my feelings, please stop. But the facts are facts and his record is speaking for it's self. Look across the country and look at all the freshman doing big things. What have his freshman done? Basketball is not like football. Two classes are enough to show some progressive improvement.
Did you not read the part where I said Beilein was taking over a team that hadn't been to the tournament in 10 years? Also, Deshawn Simms averaged under 4 points per game his freshman year. I guess all freshman should be able to come right in and score over 15...I mean Manny did it, why can't Morris or Stu or Novak?
Morris is a freshman, Douglass and Novak are not.
that your just a kid who doesn't know much about the game of Bball. Most players make the big jump between fresh and soph year, like Sims did. And yes I have seen Brundidge and Hardaway play. Brundidge has some street in his game and I like him as High School player. Hardaway, not so much. Watched him in a AAU tourney I had a couple of my old kids playing in. Typical Beilein recruit, can shoot the rock put can't put it on the floor and create.
Sorry, I have been around basketball my whole life. My dad is a coach. I do agree with you though, players tend to make a jump from their freshman to their sophomore years. Do you know how many recruits have had that opportunity under JB here at UM? Two. Total. Stu and Novak. Earlier you said UM wouldn't be good while JB is here and went on to say that he hasn't brought any good recruits in. I guess those 2 guys only marginally getting better while playing out of position is enough to doom the program and say that JB can't coach or recruit. Who is the one who doesn't know basketball? And having "street" in your game (as you have mentioned twice already) means absolutely nothing. You sound ridiculous.
Without him it's just tough sledding.
Like him or not, you have to hand it to Beilein—he's the anti-Dantonio... it's not win-at-all-costs for JB.
This was one of the three games (@MSU, @Kansas) you had to figure they had no chance to win at the beginning of the year anyway, so in the grand scheme of things, very little is lost here, especially if it ends up being a galvanizing force for Manny and the team.
Any offense needs what you noted. I don't know if the offense they run is predicated on the cutter making reads off the screen, but it looks as if they are always coming off the down screen and simply coming to a spot 25 ft from the basket.
It seemed WVU ran curls and back cuts off the down screen when B was there. They have good spacing, but they don't really utilize it; as you noted, much of it has to do with the lack of talent.
Does and will work when he has the right type of players, however, at this point I don't see those players on our bench at this time. Hopefully he can continue to recruit his system guys along with catching a couple players like "Trey Ziegler".
waste of a season in my opinion
I've seen worse.
You just bought your ticket to the great amazing NIT tournament...Welcome thanks for playing like shit during the season!
No matter how many points we score....We have a total of 5 rebounds in the first half!!! You have to make stops and get defensive rebounds.
and this is how
ZERO respect for anyone on michigan right now... they know that they can let deshawn score 30+ and they will still win by at least 15... i was happy to see the refs finally call some hand checking fouls on purdue when michigan was bringing the ball up the floor...
Epic PSU game-style comeback?
If this transpires = 17-22 from 3 pt land in 2nd half...and they happen to reach double digits in boards.
Good optimism, though!
If one player means that much to this team, we have a long way to go. Obviously no one else is stepping up today. I'd feel much better if we at least executed the basics and secured the ball ...that would at signify some level of improvement. Not seeing it. Always next year.
V-neck sweater day on espn?
I know Knight always wear a sweater, but Musberger always seems to sport a coat and tie.
This is hard to watch
Not a bad game over on CBS. 48-43 UT w/ 15+ min left in 2nd half
Not over yet...
might have given a hint as to the suspension. he said beilein and the team had not decided if harris would be back. this implies he may have picked a fight on a foul in practice or the like. mouthing off to coach is one thing but the idea he would have to be accepted by the team too is something else.
Yeah. This game is disgusting.
I'd rather be watching Glen "Big Dog" Robinson highlights then this.
Hopefully a 30 point blow out sends a message to Manny.
I have never seen this many traveling calls in a college game before.
Mr. Hightower wanted his crew to be focused on the traveling today and made a goal for his crew to get at least 12 calls in order to meet the NCAA regulated quota for the weekend.
"We are letting far too many young men down by allowing them to do whatever they want with that pivot foot. The pivot foot has been undervalued and I for one, intend to put a stop to it", said Hightower before the game.
+13 for the first half, right? right? shit.
at least we're not Arkansas right now...
Your 2010-2011 mens basketball team (minus Sims of course). Can't fucking wait.
So you think that Smotrycz, Hardaway (and two other incoming recruits that haven't gone public), Morgan and McLimans will all collectively leave before next year?
Next year there will not be a single player on the roster that will be able to put the ball on the floor and create his own shot. After watching the game today, I think we can confidently say if Manny leaves next year we are screwed. Tim Hardaway will be just another above average shooter. Unforunately the nasty cross-over dribble skips a generation in the Hardaway family. Smotrycz will be good. Hopefully we will be able to build around him. Morgan and McLimans are ho hum 3 stars that you can pick up off the shelves at Wal-Mart. Hardly adequate replacements for Peedi. We simply don't have the players to compete with the upper echelon of the big ten.
Morris, Hardaway, Smotcryz and one of the other two freshmen we're going to get next year can create their shots. For that matter, Douglass is getting better at this, although he can't finish right now.
Just come out and say it. Stand by your prediction.
The silver lining is that if Manny begs forgiveness he'll be fresh for state.
The impending category 5 hurricane is that if Beilein whiffs on Zeigler this team will be a full on joke next year and for the forseeable future.
wonky double post
the clips of Gene Keady - his hair has always perplexed me.
One player out and the system has us down by 30. If the system is ok, then where is the talent? We are still years away from being consistent. More recruits = more years to develop. Who's in the Olympics from UM. Not much else to watch. Maybe the hockey team can get into the dance ... on ice that is.
They are getting exactly the looks they want and are shooting around 60% from the field. Couple that with a 6'8" shooting over 6'3" = whipping.
UM's man has made no impact like it did against UConn or Wisky. Really, a pretty poor defensive effort in transition.
Stu needs to just shoot and stop dribbling into no man's land whilst throwing it away.
Although his shot at this point is a turnover, I'd rather see him jacking up 25 ft'ers than dribbling and losing it on the drive or throwing it away.
Stu gives UM a 17% better chance of scoring by shooting it than trying to pass or dribbling.
Sims has to finish
the crowd chanting Bobby sucks?
I think it was "IU SUCKS!"
I guess they get used to that, but that looks uncomfortable.
Woo we covered!
i got bored today and played with $60
lost $25 on texas
won $5 on michigan
also i bet against app state out of spite. they went on a 12-0 run at some point. god i hate them.
I was playing wheres waldo but instead it was wheres Manny but he never shower up. It's like watching a porn where the girls never come...sad and depressing
Best analogy ever
UM faked like manny had 'come' in the last 3 minutes. good for them
Scott: I saw a gay porno once. I didn't know until halfway in. The girls never came. The girls never came!
let the threads begin.....
