The Big Ten also had considered Omaha, Minneapolis and Detroit, but this represents a bold statement about the conference’s desire to have a strong East Coast presence following the additions of Rutgers and Maryland. Washington D.C. will host the event in 2017.

The deal, which will be announced Tuesday, will have an interesting component not previously reported.

In both 2016 and 2017, MSG will host a “Big Ten Day” featuring a day-night, hockey-basketball doubleheader. Michigan and Penn State will duel in both sports, Delany said, on Jan. 30, 2016. The 2017 participants have yet to be determined.

Michigan is already giving up a home game to Michigan State (to be played at Joe Louis Arena) next season, so I would hope that it is Penn State giving up one of its home games.  I would absolutely hate it if Michigan only hosted 8 of its 10 home conference games.  Nine of 10 is bad enough, and we will be doing that each of our first three seasons, thanks to that stupid "home" game against Michigan State in Chicago this season.

Of course, I wouldn't count on either the Big Ten or the University of Michigan to get this right, so I will wait until the final home schedule is announced.  If it's anything like this year, they will wait to announce it 2 days after the deadline for renewing season tickets.

Hopefully it will be PSU's home hockey game because it appears that Michigan will be sacrificing a home basketball game.  Assuming the one and two plays will remain the same in a two year period, Michigan would play the one plays on the road next season that they are playing in Crisler this year and vice versa with this year's road games.  Since the the teams only play once this season in State College, I would assume next year's game was slated to be played in Ann Arbor.  That being said, I believe that I will try to go to NYC next year for these games.  Michigan sports and NYC; what could be wrong with that!

Seeing the title of the thread, I assumed you meant football...

EDIT 1: Seeing others had the same issue. WD, you should amend your title.

EDIT 2: Or don't and just keep fishing for thread clicks.

Of extremely minor note, the original MSG did host the old World Series Of Football in 1902 and 1903, which was basically five "professional" teams from the New York area playing football in some round robin fashion. Naturally, this bore little resemblence to the game we watch today, and as I recall, the reason it was so short-lived is that the guy who started the event was peeved that the highest attendance ended up being for a high school game.

Blow out a couple of sections, move the scoreboard, absolutely you could host a football game there.  I mean, football is just a violent sport played with little regard for the health of others, and especially with B1G teams it should be plodding and difficult to watch for the uninitiated.  Legend has it that the mid-90's Knicks did it for years.

Prudential Center had one yesterday with Rutgers-Seton Hall at noon and a Devils game at 7. Takes about three hours to complete the changeover. MSG does it several times a year. Usually basketball comes first, and it leads to somewhat crappier ice, but then again the ice is almost always crappy in multipurpose arenas.
