Let's Go Blue!
Michigan vs NMU Hockey Open Thread
which is all good since we're not playing NTM and their WIngs jerseys.
I'm so used to watching the Rangers on the internet, than last week someone found a Michigan stream. Now I can't find one but I want it.
I'm sure you know this already, but it is on BTN2GO, if you or a family member have one of the providers with that service.
Live stream anywhere?
Hunwick has apparently been lifting with MM. Clearing the zone from the crease, nice.
But we still want MOAR GOALLLLLLLLSSSSS!!!!!
1-0 good guys. BTW, who saw Denard's tweet earlier? He'll be in Crisler tomorrow night.
8 min left in the first.
Now we have to avoid our usual tendencies. Lets keep scoring, dont take a penalty or let in a soft goal to let them back in it.
I'm watching Michigan on TV and the Red Wings going for 22 on my computer. Both teams up 1-0. Good going so far.
Good chance there, :40 seconds left guys, let's go.
2-0. Keep it up. Looking great.
We are still very hungry for more goals, don't be mistaken.
Atta boy Big Gup
D'oh! Unlucky trip.
Disgusting move on the defenseman, but it just took too much space.
Man, I thought wandering Hunwick was going to give up a goal there.
Probably should have taken that out himself, I could do without the heart attacks.
That's the first time I've ever heard him refered to as "Dirty Phil."
Crosschecking? Referee's on crack. Absolutely no stick in that hit.
How is a hockey team's placement in a particular regional established? I want to know what the chances of Michigan going to the Green Bay regional (since I live in Wisconsin and it would be the only way I could see M hockey this season in person).
Untrained monkeys. The monkey is handed a banana. If he peels it and eats it, Michigan is sent to the closest regional, but with North Dakota and the most dangerous available midmajor. If he flings his poo instead, Michigan is a 2 seed somewhere in New England. It's an intricate system.
Sloppy ass penalty signals. Any referee that can't take the time/effort to do them correctly deserves no respect. Fuck them and their "drive-by" signals.
Looks like there's 4 there, Roundtree and then who are the other two?
Kelvin and JT Floyd.
Just saying. </obvi>
Crap, they score.
In my experience, that's always a bad life choice.
I always find that breaking the seal early leads to longer drinking nights and easier hangovers. You gotta get rid of the toxins.
Mike Barwis approves
It's games like these that make me wish there were British announcers for everything. They seem to call the refs on bullshit more often than anyone else.
Mickey Redmond wouldn't take this shit either.
That's very true. I'd forgot since it's apparently impossible for me to get FSN Detroit in Chicago. I miss him...
Seems regardless of the sport, we get hosed a couple a game and never have an advantage.
every sports fan.
Nashville goal makes it 1-1. 2nd periods not good for the state of Michigan.
Well, at least Zetterberg is able to play.
This 2-1 lead makes me feel uneasy considering our (mostly unfair) parade to the box.
OTOH maybe we're due for some PPs.
They all suck. All of them. Terrible. Every weekend it's the same crap.
Run into Hunwick, no penalty.
Big scrum, Michigan always on the PK
Makes me want to throw things
I think the CCHA office has just mailed it in because they they are ceasing to exist after this season. That's the only logical explanation to why they just simply don't respond to Red's continued complaints. Or the officials just suck.
One would think the referees would want to bring their A game since they would want to be a ref in the new big ten hockey conference.
I'm concerned that this is their A game.
They have an A game?
What's ridiculous is how hard it is to break into the elite leagues as an official. Everyone would probably be even more pissed off if they realized the number of level four (highest level) USA Hockey officials that don't even get a chance to work in the CCHA or similar levels.
Can we keep the puck out of our own zone? NMU dominating possession so far. Pissing down our legs when we're trying to clear it.
REFS Y U SUCK???
dammit this is seriously unreal. Why can Hunwick and anyone on our team get freakin reamed but as soon as we hit someone its automatically a penalty
Fuck you CCHA. Fucking glad we're leaving if this is how it is. My God. Fucking fuckers.
I love how lacing your comment with the f word somehow makes me feel more intelligent.
What game are these refs watching?
He SCORES! Great pass by Merrill
I love justice.
That was a good look by Merrill., Hit DeBlois right up the middle. Mini-breakaway. Five hole. Goal
Oh, sure, now they call a penalty on NMU.
Love the student section singing Everytime We Touch after the faceoff
I'm always amused when the announcers say "don't do something" and the players do exactly that as soon as they're done saying it.
Snipe show. 4-1
Moffie with the one timer!
Moffie one-timer. PPG
CCHA refs are all idiots. Not just Sergott. We always get the short end of the stick when it comes to reffing
Datsyuk with a dirty goal with five seconds left to keep the streak alive. 22!
WOW! how about the Wings with a goal at 59:55? Fantastic!
3rd star: Datsyuk
1st star: MacDonald
Suter is still looking for his jockstrap.
Great win for Michigan. Win big tomorrow on senior night. I'm gonna miss those guys, especially Hunwick.
BTN sucks horribly still. Thank GOD they let FSN take the game tomorrow (BTN originally was broacasting it).
To flame your hatred for the BTN... The announcers were not even at the game. They were simulacasting from Chicago. All they had in Ann Arbor was two engineers in the press box.
I don't even want to talk about the gongshow refs that confuse cross checking with a legal shoulder check. that shit happened right in front of me in section 17...Good riddance to the CCHA
did they announce as to whether the game will be on Fox Sports Detroit or Fox Sports Detroit Plus? Guide is currently saying sharty's game is on FSD during that time, so they would either kick them off (lulz) or put it on FSD+.
Edit: HALOL, they kicked sparty off of FSD and put us on there tonight instead! Confirmed by FSD on twitter.
This excerpt from the box score explains a lot:
Referees: Kevin Hall, Matthew Miller
Assistant Referees: Andrew Hempel, Joseph Hutek
Looks like they broke up the Sergott and Hall crew after the Miami incident
The Miami refs were Sergott and Hill (Hall and Hill are 2 different refs).
same idea. Hall is known as one of the shitiest refs in college hockey. Hill and Hall used to be a part of the same officiating crew.
Anyone else notice Lloyd Brady's fantastic salute on the big screen? (sometime during the third period I think)
It got a pretty good cheer in my area.
Favorite moment: the Northern player hauls down and literally pins our guy to the ice behind the play, the ref stares at it for a few seconds, and then proceeds to essentially direct traffic in telling the NMU player to get off instead of, you know, calling a penalty.
Wait, no, I take that back. Even better, an obvious touched-up no-icing which doesn't get called until the puck crosses the goal line, the NMU goalie raises his hand asking for the whistle, and gets it a few seconds later. Never mind that you could clearly hear the contact with the puck from the 15th row. All you have to do is put your hand up and the ref does the rest.
Wait, no, I take that back, I can't pick one. Because tonight was legitimately one of the worst CCHA officiating jobs I've seen in years. And there have been some doozies. I don't know what these guys were looking at. I've long thought that the addition of the fourth on-ice official watered down the pool far too much, and the more we work within this system, the more I think it's true.
(from http://siouxsports.com/hockey/rankings/pwrdetails.php?teamid=11), Michigan is in 5th, with 25 comparisons won, losing comparisons with Ferris, Duluth, Denver and BC. But, Michigan is about 1 game from winning each of those comparisons.
For Ferris and BC, if Michigan can take the RPI (M: .5646, FSU: .5660, BC: .5665), they'll win the comparisons
And for Denver and Duluth, Michigan needs to win the TUC (M: .5926, Denver: .5952, Duluth: .6071)
Who'd athunk in December that Michigan would not only be well within strikinng distance of a 1-seed, but well within striking distance of THE #1 seed?! Gonna be an interesting next few weeks. FWIW, I think Michigan needs to win out thorugh the CCHA tourney to get the #1 seed, but I think they're in very solid position to get a 1-seed, even if they lose one more, perhaps if they lose two.
I'm not going to do a full-on bracket, but by straight seeding bands, right now Michigan would be the #2 seed in a regional with #1 Duluth, #3 Miami and #4 North Dakota. Do not want.
rable rable rable ... refs have reached a new low.
Slightly OT, Has anyone heard a solo this year during 'I Can't Turn You Loose' / Blues Brothers Dance? I always enjoyed that; I wonder what happened. It was awesome seeing band members around Yost.
