Michigan vs. Nebraska Basketball Open Thread

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

First time that's ever been a subject line.  Don't want to put too much into one game, but as a winnable road game coming off a loss, it'd be nice to get this one.  8:30 BTN (assuming MSU/PSU doesn't run long for some dumb reason).  Go Blue, make it just like football.

Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Edit: I don't mind the "flamebait" but....closet Cornhusker fan, or someone who really likes Bank sponsorship?

He did twice in the first half. I'm not going to knock him for taking open threes. The bottomline is we need him to play well. Also the kid cares, so can all you whiny fans please not question the kid's effort. People get flamed for doing that towards football players in the fall, but apparently it's ok to do it for bball players

He plays horrible defense and isn't even close to being in position for rebounding.  Effort alone won't make you a great defender or a great rebounder, but if you are moderately athletic, then effort will make you at least average at both.   I don't think THJ is deficient athletically, so it looks like effort is lacking.

Who cares if Tim misses that layup?  At least he drove to the basket, something he should be doing wayyyyyy more often, instead of shooting a contested three.

Also, that last foul on Morgan was Hardaway's fault.  Tim had an easy rebound and just watched it as Jordan tried to run across the lane to save it.

I think Tim Sr needs to shell out some dough for a sports psychologist. There is clearly something wrong with THJ's shot, but I think the source for that is mental. I don't know how you go from last year's sweet stroke to this mess. At the very least, the shrink could work on him having the confidence to drive to the hoop instead of launch deep shots. Every good player knows that you get your mo back by driving to the hoop for easy buckets and FTs. The deep shots will follow.

I should say that unlike other people, I think he's obviously trying. I've tried to watch his play to see if there's anything noticeably off, and I just can't find anything other than the obvious observation that something is wrong. I hope that things get better because I'm a big THJ fan.

Aiy yie yie....

I understand that they're playing down to the level of competition tonight, and that they almost know they aren't going to lose, but at the same time I feel like they should be putting the throttle down for once on a lesser team and "working" on the things that make them a good basketball team (wouldn't know it from watching tonight).  The offense looks utterly stagnant.  THJ looks turrible every touch.  Offensive reounds are still being given up.  Smotz still looks lost and could damn near be called for a foul when he's guarding a man with the ball.  Umm, did I mention the offense not looking particularly good against NEBRASKA?

Chalk it up to a bad night, again?!  Michigan will win this game, no doubt, but it'd be nice to see them "look" like a Sweet 16 team agains the bottom dweller of the RPI's top conference.  More complaints post game!!!  Go Blue; I haven't lost the faith or jumped off the bandwagon, just a frustrated fan who see's so much more capability out of these guys.
