First time that's ever been a subject line. Don't want to put too much into one game, but as a winnable road game coming off a loss, it'd be nice to get this one. 8:30 BTN (assuming MSU/PSU doesn't run long for some dumb reason). Go Blue, make it just like football.
Michigan vs. Nebraska Basketball Open Thread
We're 6-0 coming off losses, as I recall, so let's make it 7-0. GO BLUE!
we haven't lost consectutively this season, it's still disheartening to see losses @Iowa and @Arkansas. Avoid a slow start today and a W should be easy to pick up against one fo the bottom 2 in the Big Ten this year, which includes the anemic Penn State squad.
Let's Go Blue!
I'm nervous. Not sure how we're going to respond given our road history.
We've been decent on the road this year.
Huh? In every road game except Purdue (and Oakland, which was hardly a road game), we've fallen behind by a ton of points in the first half and ended up losing.
Gus Johnson calling it tonight? Here's hoping
Methinks we are going to get delayed getting to the start of our game seeing as there is still 9:51 left in this one and it's already 8:08.
If THJ's first shot tonight is an uncalled for, early in the shot clock 3 pointer, I may just cry. We need him to bounce back. NOW! Go Blue!
Weak defensive opponent like this? I can see Beilein telling THJ at some point "Just go. Do shit. Figure it out."
But if Tim hoists up a quick three, that could be a sign that he still feels confident in his shot. We can't have him be tentative, either.
I just want him to be aggressive. I want him to attack the basket and get to the FT line. He's the most athletic kid on the team. Use that athleticism and get to the rim.
Getting to the rim on your first couple shots can do wonders for confidence (especially somebody who's in a slump)
Thisi is a winnable game, but I really want it to be convincing. Things I'm looking for: I want Novak to hit some threes, Hardaway to contribute a little more scoring like we know he can, and Trey continuing his awesome freshman year.
Beat the huskers!
Does anyone know of any potential free streams for the poor, btn-less amongst us?
Anyone else notice the "Beat Ohio" chant by the Izzone? Lol little brother...
Did they really chant that?
I don't know how to react...
this game is over. switch to ours.
Man, they need to tighten up those rims at the Breslin. Every touch of the rim results in a huge *CLANK*.
With the way THJ has been playing lately, I wonder if benching him to start a game might be a good thing. Let him get a feel by watching and see what happens.
nah, we need him and he's in.
where can i find the over/under for mentions of alex kozan in this thread?
Good to see THj posting up, but I was hoping that shot would drop for him.
man, you know you're cold when you miss that.
that will be there all night. thj has to take it with authority.
Novak with 1,000 career points!
He's really having a nice senior season.
Sometimes that's by design. Against MSU, we frequently dropped three guys everytime a shot went up to prevent them from getting in transition.
He doesn't bother with offensive rebounds so they can get back on defense. Giving up put-backs to prevent fast breaks.
Novak with 1000 career points!!
Nothing is falling easy for TH lately. That was a nice move to the basket that just didn't fall.
1000 career points for Novak.
Thank you Zack.
Winning this game in a blowout would send a message.
Adam Smotrycz just came off the bench... maybe this is Evan's alter ego who can shoot threes, handle the ball, and hustle on defense.
Hardaway just needs a game where he scores 25+ so he can get his confidence back. With two early easy looks this may be the game, but he actually has to make the shots first...
That Curious George reading commercial was the most annoying thing I've seen all week.
This seems like as good a time as any to start reading your posts in Hawking's voice.
Hardaway is playing like a sack of nuts.
To be fair, so is nearly everyone else.
man, NU keeps missing, but we gotta hit some shots too.
damn it Smotrycz
We're doing diddly-poo offensively. Go inside!!!
It's like a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob out there...
This is horrible!
TIM HARDAWAY JUNIOR.... STOP SHOOTING
VOGRICH... YOU CANT HIT A THREE TO SAVE YOUR LIFE
SMOT... YOU ARE THE MOST CLUELESS PLAYER IN THE NATION
Novak... I like you a lot.. continue playing well, please
THJ still jacking up terrible shots, Smot with a complete lack of awareness, Vogrich hasn't hit an open three since 1985. And yet with a comfortable lead because...
Nebraska is horrible! How did they ever beat Indiana?!
lol @ Michigan "three point specialists"
Fuck it. Novak shoots every possession.
Never gets old.
Novak is basically the sole difference in this game right now.
anyone else having trouble with the firstrowsports stream?
Everyone else slept in
Does Nebraska have a student section? I don't see anything...
Sometimes I really wonder how the hell this team beat anybody decent.
I would think they hadn't.
man, what happened? how is this game close?
We love to miss shots.
otherwise we'd be down 10 on the road like usual.
They have lost 9 of their last 12. But they could win at Iowa unlike us.
This is just 3 after 3 after 3 after 3. They're not even attempting to go inside. We didn't take any advantage of Nebraska's horrid start.
Really need GRIII, Stauskas, and McGary. No one can score!!
Watching this offense the past few games has been difficult.
Burke, man . . . ice water in his veins.
let's say it together: NEVER FOUL A THREE POINT SHOOTER.
Or Beilein telling him not to shoot, don't hold your breath-
the nebraska player held Novak on the loose ball.
for having a decent first step on offense his feet are really slow on the defensive side.......... lack of effort doesnt help
Where have you been? He hasn't been for a while. He's become a legitimate liability.
At some point, Belein has gotta take a little heat for this offense. It's getting worse.
Is this defense a conditioning issue, or a total lack of interest by a couple players?
Where is the hell is the leadership on this team? This is awful.
The seniors have approximately ALL THE POINTS. Leadership is not the problem.
No ability to penetrate is disappointing. Maybe the team needs a couple of viagra.
"Nebraska just probing around the perimiter, now gets inside"
Woo! Consecutive made baskets!!
Has won me over this year. He still does insane things from time to time, but he has still been a huge net positive.
Is it just me or does Hardaway look like he's completely uninterested in basketball?
I don't think most understand how and why they'll be missed. Regardless of the "talent" coming next year and the likleihood they'll be a better team, those two are two of the three people that make this team what it currently is (other being a true freshman pt. guard).
Hardaway needs to get going.
We are so much better when he's on his game.
now 7 of his last 44 from 3
I could make 7 out of 50 threes using the the granny shot method. BKFinest it.
Against Big Ten defenses? He's not shooting in an empty gym.
You missed it. THJ is shooting at an alarmingly poor rate for a starting Division I basketball player who does not play the 5. See: atrocious.
He is shooting 26 of 88 from the floor since the Iowa game.
It's probably in his head by now. Even for a confident person, a slump like this can wear on a guy. I think it's affecting his whole game at this point.
Wow, a pump fake and then a two! Hardaway (who still seems able to drain the 17-footer) should follow suit.
POSITIVE - Jordan Morgan is a beast on the boards so far
Grr, I was going on 9 est thanks to the death from above post. Thanks Brian for making me miss 10 minutes of the first half.
You should be happy about that. It's saved your eyes or ears some pretty painful minutes.
You gotta love the games where 75% of your shots are from behind the arc...
Wow timmy. Wow.
Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Edit: I don't mind the "flamebait" but....closet Cornhusker fan, or someone who really likes Bank sponsorship?
Timmy goes to the hole ...
... and misses. *sigh*
GAH. He's so frustrating to watch.
Maybe Tim should close his eyes when he shoots - can't be any worse.
Will Tim Haradway Senior please put on that Michigan hat so THJ can hit his shots.
Chuck Knoblauch would like a word with you...
I'm starting to feel bad for Tim. I can't imagine how frustrated he must be.
cares all that much.
I dont, get to the rim, try and get to the line......tired of watching him sit back and fire up 3's, and then pack it in on the defensive end.
He did twice in the first half. I'm not going to knock him for taking open threes. The bottomline is we need him to play well. Also the kid cares, so can all you whiny fans please not question the kid's effort. People get flamed for doing that towards football players in the fall, but apparently it's ok to do it for bball players
People who question effort, without real proof, should get banhammered.
He plays horrible defense and isn't even close to being in position for rebounding. Effort alone won't make you a great defender or a great rebounder, but if you are moderately athletic, then effort will make you at least average at both. I don't think THJ is deficient athletically, so it looks like effort is lacking.
This game may end up being worse than that 42-41 Illinois/MSU game.
Neb with 15 points and the game is still close.
To name Nebraska's coach.
What do I win?
Those types of obscure details aren't even on Wikipedia.
is it not still danny nee?
Neb with 15 points and the game is still close.
Fail. IPAD issue. Sorry.
22 points? dang
Adam Dunn was my most expensive player on my AL Fantasy Baseball team this year (unfortunately).
Hardaway is reminding me of Dunn right now...
Wax his face?
Who cares if Tim misses that layup? At least he drove to the basket, something he should be doing wayyyyyy more often, instead of shooting a contested three.
Also, that last foul on Morgan was Hardaway's fault. Tim had an easy rebound and just watched it as Jordan tried to run across the lane to save it.
I'd like to see Hardaway post up again although Nebraska's scramble defense is making it hard for inside looks.
Somebody tell Hardaway to think about brunette girls before he hoists up his next 3.
this is a cripple fight.
I would like to have those two points that THJ missed
Even though it didn't count, how come that dude from Nebraska can throw it up like a duck and make it from 3 but Tim can't?
I think Tim Sr needs to shell out some dough for a sports psychologist. There is clearly something wrong with THJ's shot, but I think the source for that is mental. I don't know how you go from last year's sweet stroke to this mess. At the very least, the shrink could work on him having the confidence to drive to the hoop instead of launch deep shots. Every good player knows that you get your mo back by driving to the hoop for easy buckets and FTs. The deep shots will follow.
I should say that unlike other people, I think he's obviously trying. I've tried to watch his play to see if there's anything noticeably off, and I just can't find anything other than the obvious observation that something is wrong. I hope that things get better because I'm a big THJ fan.
Also, can I get a back door cut from somebody? Please... anyone?
Aiy yie yie....
I understand that they're playing down to the level of competition tonight, and that they almost know they aren't going to lose, but at the same time I feel like they should be putting the throttle down for once on a lesser team and "working" on the things that make them a good basketball team (wouldn't know it from watching tonight). The offense looks utterly stagnant. THJ looks turrible every touch. Offensive reounds are still being given up. Smotz still looks lost and could damn near be called for a foul when he's guarding a man with the ball. Umm, did I mention the offense not looking particularly good against NEBRASKA?
Chalk it up to a bad night, again?! Michigan will win this game, no doubt, but it'd be nice to see them "look" like a Sweet 16 team agains the bottom dweller of the RPI's top conference. More complaints post game!!! Go Blue; I haven't lost the faith or jumped off the bandwagon, just a frustrated fan who see's so much more capability out of these guys.
Holy brickfest. How about driving the lane instead of just heaving up 3's?
It's not like THJ is getting a lot of help....
He NEEDS plenty of help...0-7 is downright NASTY...BENCH HIM. Make him uncomfortable. Maybe that will spark something in him.
Yep, bench a guy who already has low confidence in himself. Especially when his backup, Matt Vogrich, is a worse option even with Hardaway in a slump.
A battle of Titans that will literally have dozens of viewers on tv.
I'd watch it if they played the game in one of those giant abandoned factories from Robocop.
I think I'll do something more stimulating rather than watch this game. Homework comes to mind.
Not impressed with Beileins offense this big ten season so far. Still doesn't have a counter to teams hedging the high pick and roll, not executing on any backdoor plays his offense is supposedly known for. Just very disappointing offense.
Seriously. How many times do we have to watch Burke retreat to near halfcourt?
About everytime he gets the ball. Haha
Disagree. It's only this past month that Michigan's offense has been lethargic. Lots of that has to do with THJ being a complete non-factor. In fact, I'd argue that, this past month, Michigan has been winning in spite of THJ, not because of him like last year.
What I wouldn't give for a dominating 20+ point win. I don't care if its home or away. Just go smoke someone we're supposed to (even better if it's someone we're not supposed to beat)
As long as they win, I don't care.
It will make no difference come NCAA time.
Obviously, they don't have anyone who could start in his place, but if he is going to give us nothing, then start Vogrich, who will give us nothing, but play better defense.
have you seen Vogrich play defense?
nice charge. good thing to do when you're shot won't fall. good sign.
I had the same problem. I shot lights out one year and the next I couldn't shoot for shit. Contacts are amazing.
THJ drawing the charge! Way to contribute in a way not reflected on the stat sheet.
Holy crap. It actually looks like we're running plays instead of running around half court for 25-30 seconds.
THJ breaks the drought!
Timmy is about to catch fire....Mark my words.
Hopefully he does soon.
At the very least, in March.
That's what Timmy's good at. Using his athleticism to create in the lane. Half the time he'd draw a foul on that shot, too.
We need more bitching about no backdoor cuts so that Burke will keep defying the boards with awesome finds.
He just isn't making them. Not sure if that's better or worse.
Not sure if you're talking about this game or the year but this game has been his best game that I've seen in terms of shot selection. Still way to many 3s though and if he's not making them then he needs to give a head fake and squeeze a mid-range jumper.
His shot selection for the year has been horrible. He needs to drive way more often which in turn will make us a much, much better team.
I meant today. The last month or so = notsomuch.
YOU CAN"T STOP TIM HARDAWAY!
Big fella running the court with the finish!
to follow a boxscore? I don't have BTN and ESPN doesn't have a boxscore going.
Timmy steppin it up on defense caused that turnover!
Except for the whole "ball in hoop" thing
How the fuck did Nebraska win three conference games?
The guys are starting to look relaxed again. Maybe they should play a scout team half before the game starts to get the bad stuff out of the way? lol
A trey from Trey! BWAHAHAHA where do they come up with stuff?!?!!?
That's a really big "N" at center court.
I didn't notice it 'til you brought it up. That's excessive!
Jordan Morgan looking good on defense.
God this team is so good at drawing charges.
Wow. If we could have gotten Horford back and kept Morgan fresh, we'd have won a few more games. Jordan's really good when he's not tired or on the bench with fouls.
Horrid play call with only 4 seconds.
seriously, THJ, keep doing that.
Smots just got punked.
Granted, that range is 3 feet. But it's a start.
I will love Hardaway forever if he plays like this the rest of the year. I love that he's driving for a change and when he does that, he becomes so much more effective and opens up the perimeter.
Smots is pure junk. Sit his ass down. Lazy play
coming for morgan, I can't stress that enough.
We gonna' miss Mr. Novak.
Thank you, coaches, for whatever was said at halftime.
I've always wondered why Jordan Morgan isn't a primary option very often. He's getting lots of easy looks tonight and seems to be very solid down low. It seems like he either scores 14 or 6 per game; nights like this make me wonder why there are those low-scoring games.
Am I just overvaluing his abilities? Does he get into foul trouble too often? He has some good post moves and is the only guy on our team who could be considered an inside threat.
The difference is when he goes strong he scores more. When he limp-wrists it, he doesn't make his shots and gets depressed. That affects his play.
Morgan's looking amazing today. Making himself available for those cuts and finishing much stronger. I would still love to see him make a monster jam, just to add more momentum and excitement.
Vogrich hitting some shots!!
Nebraska's pretty bad on D.
Vogrich en fuego!!
VOGRICH FOR HEISMAN!!!!!
and vogrich's shooting % goes up 50%.
THERE ARE 4 UM GUYS BY THE BASKET AND 1 NEBRASKA PLAYER. YOU CAN'T GIVE UP THE OFFENSIVE BOARD! TERRIBLE!!
YES, I'M MAD
IT'S RAINING THREEEEEEEEES
Yay! Improve the 3pt % !
3-3 from 3! Vogrich is feeling it.* THJ was taking it to the hoop to slump bust.* Whatcha got Smotrycz?
*Hopefully, these are not just products of playing Nebraska.
I would like to see Brundidge get some tread here, I think he has to be a contributer next year for the team to be successful.
for them to be successfull that is, not why he needs to play. He may get passed by stauskas if he doesnt start getting minutes and experience IMO
because he is the only potential point guard left on the roster (sorry Jbart and Eso) after stu leaves and trey cannot play all 40 especially against good teams. Depth is one of the most important aspects of college basketball. This year we may have a lack of depth in the frontcourt but next year we will have a lack of depth in the backcourt.
Agreed. We should get him some playing time while we're in blowout mode.
He's back in AA. Had an asthma attack IIRC.
Brundidge has the flu didn't travel with the team.
Court sounds mighty quiet, lot of Go Blues floating around.
I was there, and the crowd was near-silent. It was not a sellout, but was probably about 75% full. There was a nice Michigan contingent.
As bad as Nebraska. What's the worst Penn State team in recent memory? This is almost as bad as the Northwestern team that put in the chubby Asian kid that Webber and Rose were laughing at and the Crisler fans were cheering for to score.
bartlestein has the ugliest shot ever.
Hey, Nebraska broke 40!
damn wanted to keep them under 40
During one of the TV timeouts, they must have added some larger rims. This is crazy how many shots are falling now that the game is out of reach - on both sides.
62-46 Michigan final.
update score other than BlueDragon?
Im sitting in a hotel over looking the beautiful UT campus in Knoxville and I cant even get an update on the score? And this is a Michigan Blog? The cable TV here sux @ss.
Thanks Blue Dragon
WHY NO DEFENSE AT END TIMES?
Dammit! Could've won by 20+
Yay, another road win!
We were 6-8 from 3 in the second half. Hopefully, this team can remember what driving to the hoop did for their 3-pt%.
Forever this. Nebrasketball had to close down on Morgan down low and that left a guy wide open the entire second half. Timmay also slashing helped with this.
Beilein will like this stat: 17 assists on 24 made FGs. Plus only 6 turnovers.
Solid Big Ten road win.
We played a great game. Smotcryz is shelling up, it doesn't look good for him this season. 13 minutes, no field goal attempts, no free throws, 1 Defensive rebound, 1 turnover and 2 fouls. It might be something he can work out of in the off season because his confidence is shot. Hardaway is fighting through it, and I think he'll be fine. We have a week off between Illinois and Ohio, and I think he'll get through it then and come up big against Ohio. I hope Smotcryz can get stuff figured out in that week as well - we really need him to make some noise in the NCAA Tournament.
Oh and watching the end of the game? Man we have no bench. I think Colton and Blake could get much better with some more playing time, but man that is it.
