I only caught the last 5 minutes. They looked good closing it out. Rebound margin was 36-32 for NC State. The way Patrick was talking, I expected it to be worse than that.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:16 PM ^
Per JB in his presser, it shouldn't be a long-term thing. Amen.

Season might hinge on wagners development. He looks like a relevation (though he was a high end recruit.) Doyle has been disappointing but maybe he too can develop as season goes on and regain some confidence

Doyle would look a lot better if he could hang onto the damn ball.
December 1st, 2015 at 10:58 PM ^
Seems to be the classic not looking it all the way into the hands. He seemed to have a few passes where he tried to go up to the basket with it before he actually secured the ball and ended up fumbling it.
December 1st, 2015 at 10:13 PM ^
It's been so fast, it's hard not to be optimistic. A few people considered him a high end recruit, but that was far from a coonsensus opinion. Most analysts and fans seem to have greatly underestimated Wagner and Robinson.
December 1st, 2015 at 11:12 PM ^
Rivals guys said he'd have been a borderline 5* (top 40ish) had he played in the States.
December 2nd, 2015 at 1:14 AM ^
Doesn't seem hat his team has quite connected w him socially yet

How unusual is it for a DIII player to transfer to a DI school--power 5 no less--and become a major contributor at the DI level? I don't have extensive knowledge of college basketball, but I've never heard of such a thing. Pretty incredible if Robinson can keep this up!
December 1st, 2015 at 8:58 PM ^
but i don't know any DIII
December 1st, 2015 at 9:11 PM ^
the thing is, Robinson received some D1 offers out of high school. he chose DIII because of the liberal arts program that his old college offered. I don't think people realized he wasn't a total scrub player, and he didn't exactly come out of nowhere.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:15 PM ^
Yeah, I never thought he was some scrub who got lucky. He was a tall kid who could shot but chose Williams for a variety of non-basketball reasons. He's probably never going to be a star, but he always had the ability to play at this level.
December 2nd, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
he can continue to shoot at this clip, he will have no choice but to be a star.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:14 PM ^
I stand corrected. he had D1 interest, but no commit able offers. when he decided to transfer though, he again had D1 interest.

December 1st, 2015 at 9:28 PM ^
Yeah, I saw that too--Ivy League interest but no offers. Had an offer from DII Merrimack College in Massachusetts. So obviously he was a very good high school player, but it's not just the fact that he transferred and was offered a scholarship--he's already one of the better players on a pretty good team, and he could break the starting lineup soon. That's a huge leap!
December 1st, 2015 at 9:36 PM ^
Really have to wonder why he had no D1 offers. His size and shooting ability alone should've gotten him some low P5 offers even.
December 2nd, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
he grew like 3 inches his senior year. so if he was only 6'4 or 6'5", i could see him getting no D1 offers. he's not very athletic. a more athletic zach novak and stu douglas got very very few offers.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:10 PM ^
I thought the play-by-play guy (Patrick?) said it was the first time a kid went D3 to D1 and earned a scholarship.

Hope Walton gets healthy quick. But still, we won a road game against a probable ACC tournament team while being cold from three and having no Walton for the most part. Overall very positive.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:12 PM ^
everyone in the acc makes the acc tourney
December 1st, 2015 at 9:16 PM ^
Not Rutgers
December 2nd, 2015 at 9:56 AM ^
Back in the late 90s when there were 9 ACC teams, Thursday night got dubbed the NC State Invitational for a while.
December 2nd, 2015 at 11:44 AM ^
He meant an ACC team that will make the NCAA Tourney.
December 1st, 2015 at 8:56 PM ^
This team will be a strong 6-8 seed. Maybe higher If Wagner has a McGary improvement over the season.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:00 PM ^
If everyone can stay healthy, easily a 6-8 seed IMO. I think we can get a 3-4 seed if we can get some rebounding production from Chatman, Wilson, and Wagner moving forward.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:12 PM ^
I'm thinking more like 7-10. Probably lumped towards the middle of the 2nd tier B1G group.
December 1st, 2015 at 8:56 PM ^
I was wrong about Robinson earlier in the year. Kid can flat out play. He might be on the cusp of supplanting Dawkins for the starting role.
December 1st, 2015 at 8:59 PM ^
I've been saying lately that Dawkins should come off the bench and play when Caris isn't in there. He has a hard time being the 4th or 5th guy.

Agree. It seems like he can't stay focused on offense and defense for long periods at a time. I think he could still be really good but he has a lot of stuff to work on both on offense and defense.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:00 PM ^
He's clearly a better player. Robinson is no worse defensively and is 6'9.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:16 PM ^
yep. I've been saying that last year, aside from the injuries, we really missed Stauskas' three point shooting that made our offense hum. Robinson brings that back.
now, Trey>Walton and Stauskas > Robinson and McGary > our 3 headed Monster... but Robinson is a crucial to our offense
December 1st, 2015 at 10:35 PM ^
good as freshman Stauskas. Robinson is a good passer, they aren't planting him in the corner like they did with Stauskas.
December 1st, 2015 at 10:50 PM ^
Stauskas was driving by then end of his freshman year. "NOT JUST A SHOOTER!"
December 2nd, 2015 at 10:01 AM ^
Did you not play the drinking game?
Or maybe played it so well that you can't remember?
December 1st, 2015 at 10:26 PM ^
and Robinson. Which one starts may not have much impact on their minutes.
December 1st, 2015 at 8:57 PM ^
Looks like MAAR will be used this year after all...eh Mr. Yost?
December 1st, 2015 at 8:59 PM ^
lost in the stats is the job he did on martin the final 10 minutes
December 1st, 2015 at 9:02 PM ^
Definitely played a huge role in our win

This team is extremely talented. We just have to piece it together. Did not see much Kam or D.J. tonight. I think those two will have to contribute against the bigger teams down the road if we are going to win the Big Ten.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:00 PM ^
when the play-by-play guys pronounce Wagner's last name correctly.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:09 PM ^
genau.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:01 PM ^
Not ready to give up on Dawkins. THJ had a horrible sophomore season on offense. Dawkins needs to focus on defense hardcore until his offense slows down and comes around again

Great win. Team did not collapse having a 15 pt lead reduced to 4.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:03 PM ^
Duncan Robinson is a better spot up shooter than Nik Stauskas. Sauce was a lot better off the dribble and could get to the lane more often, but off of a pass Robinson's shot is just so pure

Sauce should have stayed in college another year.
But hey, he is cashing checks playing for the worst team in NBA history!
December 1st, 2015 at 9:10 PM ^
Why should he have stayed? With his game there was no more potential that would lead to a higher pick. He went higher than he should have and he wouldn't have gained anything from staying.

He is a rare case where going lower in the draft would have been better.
His skills work with a more established team.
If you play good on a more established team, you can manipulate yourself into getting a huge payday the way money is handed out in the NBA.
December 1st, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
It's also possible that on a good team he might be nailed to the bench and never go on to get that payday.
It's hard to fault a guy for leaving when he was a lottery pick.
