I'm loving it.
let the good times roll
Tennessee is not recruiting well just because they got 18 dudes
I'm loving it.
let the good times roll
Huge win. Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. They controlled the play, when there was a flow to the game that is.
both sides thought the refs sucked.
At the end, the Minnesota fans were chanting their opinion of the refs.
Anyone know what they were chanting at other points of the game? Like when Trey Burke was taking free throws at the end?
They were chanting "he fucked up" pointing at the ref who called the foul.
There were a decent amount of chants calling out the recruit from Apple Valley
Yep. There were calls against the gophers that made me say, "Are you fucking kidding me?"
That was a very weird game in terms of officiating.
Tame your tongue
He had one of his toughest matchups of the season tonight. Cut him some slack. Anyhow, he had some key buckets/boards in the second half.
for avatar. NTTAWWT.
That was pretty cool.
Still, how many times will that be called a 360 (!!!) dunk when it actually involved much less than a full rotation in the air? Too many ...
You can revolutionize the name change by making the NBA and doing it yourself. It's awfully difficult to build enough angular momentum jumping when your body is still square with the basket.
356 dunk just doesn't have the same ring.
hahahahah. Lets get the protractor out, it's actually 355.7 degrees. Even better, lets rename the dunk the 2pi radians dunk!
1.976 radians is just a little bit over 90 degrees.
It is actually 113.2 degrees. MOAR SCIENCE. MOAR MATH.
Aww C'mon!!! I was told there would be no math
You're right. I meant 1.976*pi radians.
but what is impressive about that dunk to me is not the total degrees of rotation but turning your back on the rim and finding it again mid-air. I remember doing that as a kid on a minihoop and it's tough.
Also, I'm in on GRIII60.
"Lay someone out if they're going to dunk it twelve times in a row."
Seriously google image search "posbang" its basically just mgoblog
Yea. I like winning. Beer tastes better. Grass is greener. It just makes me feel like a better person.
"...makes me feel like a better person." Classic!
My grandfather passed 6 months ago, today is his birthday. He left me the remainder of his bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label.
I just drank it.
I am very happy right now. And sad. It mostly happy.
"It's" - check your grammar and spelling before posting on MGoBlog!
Cheers to you and your grandfather! And your Blue Label...
Your comment made me chuckle and I up voted it.im sorry u ultimately got negged.
We can rebuild him. We have the positive moderation.
Seriously though, cheers to you & your grandpa. To great men.
a HUGE win for the good guys. I can't wait a whole week to see the next game. Damn you BIG scheduling department!
Good Win. Interesting game the latter part of the second half. I don't mind slower Big Ten baskeball and the physicality, but that in ways wasn't fun to watch at times (and not just because Minny was clawing their way back). Overall the team played pretty damn well, though, and should be proud to have went in there and won. Hope they enjoy the week off.
non-burke ball handling is still a concern, and M's big dudes can't jump. Other than that, there aren't many weaknesses in this team. I think Minnesota ends up the 3rd best team in the B1G. Quality road win tonight.
McGary might not have good hops, but when he can physically match up against Mbakwe, that's huge. He played a solid game.
Classy fans at the RCMB:
"hahahahaha Tim Hardaway Jr. is down. Hope he loses an eye"
Water is wet and fire is hot.
Sparty gonna spart.
and I'm gonna double post. Darn.
It's a posbang thread. Double the posbangs for you!
Don't look there and you won't see the stupidity. You're better than that.
they need an entrance page before the boards that reads
"Abandon hope (for intelligent discourse) all ye who enter here"
So Spartan fans are immature, petty, and jealous? No news here. Here's something to consider, you're a fan of the University of Michigan...you win.
With this game Big Ten showed that every team is good in this division and Michigan has some crazy talent, and knowing that most of these guys are youngsters makes me think we are not going to be a door stop anymore in B1G
You're only to "we're not going to be doorstops?" I'm up to "WE HAVE MADE DOORS OBSOLETE"
This team has become something I truly love. It is on par with football.
My heart is still pounding and the game has been over for how long?
I just poured a little Glenfiddich into the glass to celebrate the win. Hard fought game, but a game that we needed and took on the road.
We did well - we got back to playing in line - even above - season averages, including 54.9% for FGs and 68% for FTs. 10-20 for three-pointers stands out as well. As a team, 19 assists and 13 steals best the Gophers stats as well. In the end, the turnovers worked out to 16 for the Gophers and 11 for Michigan, so they definitely matter in games where the numbers say we're quite evenly matched. The game came down to taking advantage of the little (and some not so little) aspects of the game, if you will, and we did that.
You just poured it into a glass? That's not much of a celebration.
Just trying to gauge how big is this win? Is it 12 year old Glenfiddich big, or is it 18 year old Glenfiddich big?
Still early in the big 10 season, so probably 12-yr old. Personnally, I think 12-yr Glenlivet is an upgrade over the Glenfiddich, so I'd go to the store and buy a bottle of that.
Hey, I'm with you. I have a bottle of 21 year old Balvenie hanging around in my liquor cabinet waiting for the day when we make the Final Four. I'm thinking this could be the year.
As for Glenfiddich vs. Glenlivet, I prefer Glenfiddich myself, but the palate prefers what the palate prefers. Either way, you're enjoying 12 year old single-malt scotch, so your day is going pretty well regardless.
John Beilein is now 7-3 against Minnesota, which is even more impressive when you consider he started out 0-2.
Great win today. That dunk. GRIII is a monster
someone needs to 'gif caddyshack gofer scenes with this win.
I understood that we committed a foul on the play, but they weren't in the double bonus yet and that couldn't have an an "in the act" foul. Just curious if anyone else noticed that.
It was in the act. GRIII got Mbakwe going up.
The foul wasn't from the contact on THJ; that was a pass down to Mbakwe (love saying that), who got fouled on his subsequent shot.
I think when MSU comes to Crisler we're going to run them out of the building
We should take them at Breslin too. They have some problems, all over.
We should be telling them to 'Get the fuck off my court' 2 or 3 times this year. It should be quite enjoyable.
THJ needs to cut down on TOs. I know he had 21 points, but 6 tunovers is really not good.
once you break into the rotation.
Well nobody could guard me, but I'm afraid I couldn't hold the ball.
You get a plus one.
Hardaway got everything started tonight with his shooting. Yost was also critical of Burke in the first half about his shot selection. It is pretty difficult watching a POY candidate on a 17-1 team. Maybe Yost will can be player/coach when he does break into the rotation. We'll call him the duel threat!!!
What you have to understand I that bitch about everything. It makes me feel less nervous about games. Otherwise, I'm just a ball of stress and it becomes very difficult for me to watch the team play.
Besides, it's not like my statement was completely unreasonable. He DOES need to cut down on turnovers.
17-1 teams don't come around often, you should try to enjoy it a little more and appreciate what you're watching!!
I really wish I could. Michigan could be 100-0 and I'd still be biting my nails every game and upset if we lost.
I could be wrong but I think Burke has the best Assist-turnover ratio in all of college bball. You sir, are a legendary idiot. Congrats
I was talking about Hardaway, which I thought was quite obvious given my use of the name "Hardaway." But sure, I'm the idiot.
I just like to remind myself that they're kids doing amazing things and not get down on them.
he'd pimpslap everyone and challenge them to duels??
That's your primary take away from a road win against a top 10 team. Jeez...He was the reason we had a lead in the first half.
When did I say it was my primary takeaway? Oh that's right, I didn't. You just completely made that up. I was making a comment that I think is perfectly legitimate. He had 6 turnovers, which is a lot, and if you think Hardaway himself is not prioritizing protecting the ball moving forward, you're crazy.
I agree, but the most egregious turnover by THJ was on Vogrich, I think. THJ was yelling at him after that and watching the replay showed that Vogrich was basically just standing there which allowed the Minnesota guy to get to THJ without anything in his way.
I feel a bit bad about some things about how we played when we BEAT A TOP TEN TEAM ON THE ROAD. I remember the Amaker era (my freshman year) and seeing the team literally sit at a table on the Diag and beg people to go to games. Amazing how far we have come in six years. Really amazing.
I remember that too.
Nice response to osu loss...road win vs top ten team. Excellent.
I am so glad we don't have to play them again in the regular season. That's a good bunch of ballers they have there in Minny.
They came, they saw, and they conquered. Sure there were the ups and downs of the game, but they impressed me tonight and showed me their potential. Go Blue... Nuff said.
Wait, so all of you aren't here for just the posbang?
But seriously, this was a damn good win. There were stretches where M looked unbeatable even though Minn was hitting their 3s. This conference, especially on the road, will be tough to navigate. This and the Ohio game will be good for the team down the road.
enough said. And long long overdue!
its spelled " P I Z Z A".
I thought the "How good is your good?" line on the telecast was dead on. Our good is really fucking good.
is really fucking on!
what were the students chanting exactly at the end? i couldn't really hear the game
"These refs suck!" "These refs suck!"
if I ever hope to get the points to post new topics and ride that gravy train. I thought the refs were pretty bad, but Minnesota hated them too, so maybe it's a wash. A road win like that is always nice, and I'm looking forward to the bump we'll get in the standings.
right? Once you have 100 points, you can create posts and vote on comments or posts.
that might explain it. To create a new post, click "create content" on the top left of your screen. For the love of Denard, Charles and Desmond, use the search function before posting anything. Unless it's original content, of course.
for some reason that 100 points allowed me to judge people, but I had to have 500 points to put myself out there and be judged. Thank you for correcting this fallacy.
like the depth chart, MGoHOF, ect. Also, those are the only two levels that count; someone with 500 points can do everything M-Wolverine can do.
I've heard M-Wolverine gets cake.
I have 500 points, yet have no cake .
I WANT IT NOW!
I WANT CAKE NOW!!
I WANT IT NOW!!!
I'm not sure you're even at the punch and pie level.
And there are levels. Once you get enough points you get invited to the secret meetings with the hookers and blow, where we spend the whole day clubbing hobos to death. Though if you're on the lower end of the point scale you have to dispose of the bodies.
30,000 points was supposed to get you a night with Jessica Alba, but Magnus got there first and ruined her for the rest of us.
Sorry, maizeonblueaction and MaizeMN, I forgot about these meetings. I don't have enough points to be invited and the jealously just seeps through in my posts.
And did Magnus really trade his points in for Jessica Alba? I always thought he cashed in for Scarlett Johansson.
That's why he keeps having his minions give him point bumps.
...but if Molly Dunsworth isn't there, neither is the shotgun or the Hobo. You can't have a meat-pinata party w/o shotguns and hobos.
Now can I have cake at your secret meetings?
I WANT IT NOW!
I have thought all along that this would be one of the hardest games on the schedule. I think if Minnesota would have won tonight, we would have had a hard time overtaking them for the championship. Our team continues to impress nightly.
so high level impression seems to be that it was a huge win and I think it looked like we were up by 17 at one point? Solid bounce back
Two sentance recap: we ran them out of the gym for approx middle 20 minutes. Poor in the last ten minutes, but over all pretty good.
It's almost halftime in the Duke/GT game, and I can watch and they're going to show highlights and say glowing things about Michigan. This is what I do all day after a football win. I am quite happy.
Also the halftime will provide a welcome break from me trying to tell the difference between white and pale gold on my TV.
ND Schadenfreude and a huge win on the road have resurrected the week after a dismal start! Loving it.
The refs called way too much and slowed the second half down. But its great to see that this team doesn't have to fire on all cylinders to get a good win. As long as a couple of people step up each night this team is going to dominate offensively.
McGary continues to impress. I can't wait to see him continue to develop over the next few years.
Finally, the barn is awesome. It's a little cramped, and incredibly loud. The fact that we keep winning there is amazing because it is a really tough place to play.
It wasn't clear on the telecast, can you let me know what the relationship is between the height of the court and the height of the benches?
The court would be at about desk level...the people sitting next to the court had their chairs on the floor, like those in the first row, so probably about 3 feet.
I've been there, they have an elevated court.
Great win by the team tonight, I wish they would close out better and not let teams claw back but hopefully that will come as the season progresses.
And while I am Michigan all the way, it is nice for the Big 10 to see Minnesota competitive in something.
WWE BIG second halves.
Literally. The last 7 game minutes took 30 real time minutes.
Didn't have enough 360 dunks for me. Team needs more athletisism.
Is Kate Upton off limits on Posbang threads?
I'm kidding but Trey not being able to play for a few minutes, because his jersey was so badly torn is a bit ridiculous. Great game, though.
Yeah that was Adidas fault. It's adidas fault hardaway's eye is swollen shut too. That game was pretty physical. I'm sure pro combat cheese ball crap wouldn't have done much better. And I can assure you it would have looked worse.
Do you work for Adidas?
I became pretty bummed about the jerseys when I found out that they were the exact same ones Notre Dame is wearing.
Maybe that wasn't clear in my previous comment despite the "I'm kidding." I don't actually have a preference in the Nike vs. Adidas debates. And I really like some of the Adidas uniforms, warmups, jackets, and shirts that Michigan players wear. It was a very physical game, but the Gophers' Nike jerseys seemed to hold up well. Again, I don't seriously want Adidas fired, but it appears that some improvements are definitely needed. Being able to see the jersey numbers on TV during the next bowl game would be nice, too.
Wasn't McGary's jersey ripped during the Ohio game as well? Burke's and possibly Morgan's (unless it was blood) tonight. These Adidas jerseys are atrocious.
I would just like to complain for a minute. How do you travel without an extra shirt??? Come on! Who packed for them? Clearly not the Mom....
Great game! Had everything. Bad refs, awesome dunks, real Trey, fake Trey, real Morgan, fake Morgan. Good stuff.
Loved Dicky V's excitement to see the new Crisler and the comments about the benefits to recruiting. Credit to Beilein and our entire athletic program's commitment to revitalizing the program.
For everyone in the last game snowflake thread who were asking "when was Michigan's last big road win?". "They can't win big games on the road".
They just did. For the first time since the win over duke in 96.
But it doesn't matter because we didn't look amazing the entire game. Didn't you pay attention to the game thread?
We got spoiled really fast!
Huge win, great job team.
Would like to have controlled tempo ore at the end, but that will get better. Remember that for four guys who played big minutes tonight, this was their fifth B10 game. They will be much better after 10, and should be a real force come tourney time.
Huge road win by UM in the barn. Switched over to Sundance to see Hickory win in the finals of "Hoosiers" in a barn that looked like Williams arena. Good guys won both games.
GRIII 360 slam > Jimmy running the picket fence.
Would you bang Seth Curry's mom?
Maybe if I were single, but I'm in this long term relationship with a girl from Stanford I met online. She says her Skype doesn't work so I've never seen her so I've never seen her, but I'm in love.
Cheeseheadwolverine for Heisman next year.
Cheeseheadwolverine for Heisman next year.
Edit: Pretty ridiculous if Te'o and kind of ironic that Armstrong now had lied also.
That statement made no sense, syntactical or otherwise, nor is anything about the two of them lying ironic.
I really hopes he comes back to explain that comment.
I said my fingers are still bruised from the accident and I'm exhausted from the L-E-U-K-Y-M-Y-A-A.
I would bang her it is
No she is a traitor.
That's it. I just like saying the name.
Great win. Our freshman were all impressive tonight. We beat a very athletic team in a tough venue. Go Blue!
Illinois is getting blown out at home by Northwestern. Wow. Weren't the Illini actually supposed to be good this year?
Is that time of year for the typical Illini implosion. There's something about that school where its teams start out great only to eventually fall flat on their faces.
Illinois is thrash.
Is really good though. I enjoy watching him play and have absolutely zero ties or fandom to IU or UI (however you southerners do it). As somebody posted above, they can come out and beat us if they play a great game (mr. Obvious is obvious BUT) odds are they in favor of doing the opposite and underperforming
Illinois blow hot and could. They could go supernova and beat us at home but they're just as likely to lose to Central Remedial Scrub Tech.
CRST got that freshman 7-footer though man.
I feel so good right now about our basketball program!
I need to write a script in Python or something that can automatically upvote every post in a thread. It's just one of those nights.
Minnesota fans' thoughts here:
In one thread, they wonder, "Weren't we supposed to be a good defensive team"? Bwahahaha!
Sucks I had to miss the 2nd half, but followed it online and was getting a tad nervous down the stretch. Big games by Timmay and Trey. Glad somebody got the GR3 dunk online right away. Love the swagger. You need that ish in basketball.
The refs made some horrible calls in this game!! With that said, i dont want to hear anyone bring this team down. THEY ARE FOR REAL!!! Losing to OSU hurts but its just a bump in the road. If they win the next three games theyll b 20-1 going into Bloomington. Cant wait!!
at Williams Arena.
You have an orange peanut for me?
Well, I accept you.
This team, man. This is the kind of game that wins Big Ten championships. Going on the road and winning at Minnesota when they don't come to Crisler this year = HUGE.
I just posbanged the shit out of everyone, hope you enjoyed.
Thank you, Dick Vitale
I can't wait one whole week to get my Michigan basketball fix! I am concerned about the murder's row we have looming: @Indiana, OSU, @Wis (a team on a very hot streak), and @Sparty. If we somehow get three victories there, the conference championship is ours for the taking.
How do we simultaneously say the game was very physical, but then complain about the refs calling too many fouls.
I know this is the Internet and the number 1 rule of college basketball is that the refs are always trying to screw your favorite team (go look at Minnesota's boards), but can't we at MGoBlog be a little more reasonable?
No? Ok, I'll shut up now.
Also: Nobody mentioned the Stauskas dunk which was pretty fun too.
This. The refs were fine. They may have missed some bumps when Minny was pressing, but they also let some of our contact go. And they prevented all the hand checking and grabbing that went uncalled on Sunday.
this team is so full of awesome
A win over a top ten team on the road is huge for the RPI. I can't wait until March!
