Michigan vs. Michigan State/Early Games Open Thread
I like the uni and yes we should have had a penalty
about a sporting event in years. go blue!
His schtick is very tired.
Bad ass uniforms!!
Michigan Legacy uniform?! No!!!
Oh wow I like them.
The look better than MSU
I never said they looked good. But yes Hoke (Michigan) is not as fat (Ugly) as Mangino (MSU).
Wasn't expecting these but they are nice
can someone explain the 5 yards blocking down field ? are we getting away with it?
We are getting away with it so far but I can't see it happening much longer.
Would have been six.
I had a hunch we might do this when Little Brother announced their pro combat unis....LOOKS FUCKIN' AWESOME
Actually loving the white pants!
I absolutely love those uni's go blue!!!
Props to gibbons on the block.
Those road legacies make MSU's jersey look high school.
These challenges are really slowing down the mojo of games nowadays.
Wooooooooo!!!! Go Blue!!!
Even if they're white pants, I kinda like the unis. I love the king-sized numbers.
Comes in ranked #1 in the country.
Gives up 10 play opening drive touchdown
But imo, a lot of those plays where close to going state's way. This game should continue to be exciting.
Let's go blue! Way to start the game right. Now let's smack em D!
Molk with a huge block in the backfield freeing Denard, awesome
I thought that legacy uni was a one time thing. We have the best uniforms in the nation already!
i was so excited about the jerseys i didnt even notice the white pants till the TD run!
I didn't notice them until the touchdown run either!
I almost think the stripes look better on the road jersey. Wonder how they'd look with maize pants.
Wow we got lucky
Bahaha "the great thing about bj is that he isn't a body catcher, but he's a hand snatcher"... Didn't know that about them
I feel like I am watching the Oregon spring game.
They are going to run outside all day long.
Still isn't good.
Where's the contain?
breakdowns everywhere. Dline is getting especially beat
Woolfolk looks awful already.
I guess we'll now see how much of that 750k GMattison is going to earn today.
im guessing the first 2 adjustments will be how to avoid the cut blocks and how to get woolfork to keep contain outside!
Hopefully it ends the same.
Is pissing me off.
The containment thing is what's driving me crazy. I expected State to run up the middle not outside
The same thing Northwestern did.
I logged on expecting to read uniform apocolypse .... but on this thread at least, it's strongly positive. I agree, though I hesitate mostly b/c I just wonder what type of changes - and *most importantly how many changes* - are coming down the road.
But for this uni's themselves, me likes!
Now, Mr. Brandon, don't go crazy every week, OK?
That is all
On another topic, why don't we run a bubble screen or two?
Why are we running inside power?
MSU is having early success running the ball, but their line still has issues. He has a good defense that has a history of stuffing Denard. Dantonio is playing the odds that UM will not drive the length of the field.
Can we PLZ attack the perimeter?!
our o-line is getting killed
That needs to change if Michigan is to win.
Getting the ball out to the perimeter, both on runs and with some bubble screens. I feel like a broken record
Is not looking good, at all.
The front 7 has to play better to be successful
Big stop. Craig Roh seems to be finally finding his groove after a slow start this season
Is it just me or is he ripping everything that Michigan does?
Is it just me or is he ripping everything that Michigan does?
He is pointing out legitimate errors Michigan is making. I have no issue with that.
Its not just you. He discredits everything Michigan does and is so one-sided. So annoying.
Even if Hemingway didnt get tangled with the db that ball looked way over thrown. If denard can start hitting some deep balls consistently our offense would go to another level!
Borgas is not looking so gorgeous right now.
Bad throw. He forced it
Great punting by Will so far. He's looking like a weapon.
My ears hurt.
Now we need a stop
Why so much trash east Lansing?
Great stop D thanks to good field position on the punt.
Terrible play calling so far. Keep DR in at QB to get some sort of rhythm. Every now and then with Devin is fine as long as you keep Denard on the field. But it is almost every other play right now.
NEED TO KEEP THE BALL THE REST OF HALF
k sorry, denard sucks
This is not good.
I agree. Urban makes a good point that if DG is one the best 11 on O & I think he is you gotta get him in there. Saying that he has missed two wide open receivers down field.
The expense of taking the best player in CFB out
Come on guys.
Yea I think Spielman still think he's playing for TSIO.
This team still does a good job (lineman, TE's, etc.) getting outside and lead blocking for Denard when plays break down. (see TD, Koger = beast!) Does this significantly drop off with next year as we move past RR's recruits and coaching?
then the magical poop happens.
I think DRobs first half struggles are a ploy...to lure teams into a false sense of security!! Come on adjustments!!
I HATE.....with the passion of a 1000 red hot suns....Chris Motherhumping Spielman!!!
Lots to work on during half time, but this is when our team will come out better, right?
Denard and Gardner have both been off, but we have seen Denard bounce back (ahem, Northwestern). Also, some of those passes, while not accurate were still somewhat catchable (Roundtree off finger tips).
We really should not be trying deep passes in this wind with Denard's erratic throwing, but with MSU selling out to stop the run, I don't think we have much of a choice. Hopefully we can connect on a few of these, and some bubble screens would be nice too. Anything to get the ball on the edge because oru running isn't always getting there.
OLine, if it doesn't have a better second half Michigan loses. To that point, MSU's oline is playing its best game they could ever dream in their sleep.
That needs to change if UM is to win.
wearing legacy uniforms when the opponent chooses to disregard their own history and wear thsoe crappy things msu is calling uniforms.
If we're gonna have DG in the game make it a two set
I hate to say this but I think having Devin come in (with Dr on the field) is good. I know there would be different feelings if he had found Hopkins on that pass.
Devin isnt ready for the big time. He locks onto one receiver and missed Hopkins for a scord.
Denard needs to wake up and quit just heaving the ball. Needs to set his feet and throw it.
State fans booing their team at halftime lol
Sucks donkey d$*k
at the boxscore: this game is dead even. Your thoughts on where each team moves their focus in the second half?
Actually executing some of the offensive plays they called would be a good start. They left a couple of scores on the field.
All season Michigan has played it's best football the second half.
Chris Spielman has continually ripped MICHIGAN players technique's and taking cheap shots at coaches. In my opinion he is still mad because he never beat MICHIGAN or he's on his permanent period because the STATE OF OHIO SUCKS!!
Is what Greg will be bringing. KC hasnt beaten us and we need to stop the run. Denard needs more outside zone reads and read options.
who's this KC?
Seriously, thay guy needs to shut his mouth. I've never heard someone so blatantly wanting someone (Michigan) to lose. I'm so irritated I have to listen to him another half.
1) Attack the perimeters with bubble screens and a few more speed option plays from shotgun. I'd use Shaw on the option rather than Smith
2) Even though it gets panned on here, I'd try running inside/offtackle from the I-form, as it's just not happening from the shotgun. I'd even consider some FB runs with Hopkins on first down, to offset the blitz and pick up 3-4 yards.
3) Get Denard and Devin to see the open guys at midrange, but just hone in on one WR.
4) Get Denard to scramble when things break down and he's got some time, NOT throw ducks into the wind or with the wind to Tacopants.
What the hell kind of kickoff was that?
People are acting like we are down by three touchdowns, it's an even game so far. No one thought this game would be an easy win. Michigan will have to earn it, and they will.
You have to tackle on 3rd and goal from the 9. WTF????
make a damn tackle floyd! we had them stopped!
the kill shot instead of holding him up and forcing a field goal. That is a 4 point mistake. Painful.
That tried tackle with his head down again? That would have forced a fg. Grrr
Denard sucks at passing
Furman what the fuck?
on both sides of the ball. UM's lines are soft. That much is obvious.
how is that a touchback he grabbed it at the 1
Epitome of bush league bullshit
Got lucky with the fumble
Don't help em up Shoelace!!!
To get pissed at Al
Starting to? What took you this long? I have been pissed at him for the past two hours.
offense is crappy
I said it before and people poo pooed it, but we are talent bereft from the RR era.
forward to a bye week. There is a lot to fix.
did say that we did not deserve "That ranking" and it is really starting to show.
huyge is playing like crap. u dont even have to block the guy, just push him up field so denard can step to the outside!
This offense is the opposite of tremendous so far.
Six times inside the MSU forty-yard line, 7 points to show for it. There's the difference so far.
get the ball to the outside via screens it seems that we have the same plays each drive.
Worst. Playcalling. Ever. Is Denard injured or something?
adjustments but that series was awful
You guys are fucking pussies. I'm embarrassed for you.
Sparty is giving gifts out like a spoiled kids parents at Christmas. I'd love to take advantage of just one of them...
but we need to stop the over-active suck gland from secreting anymore.
looks great in that bumblebee thing.
Seriously Dernard is just throwing it around.
And now the D looks confused, tired, getting overrun. Biting on everything, unable to get pressure, unable to stop run or pass.
We look outcoached coming out of halftime, and badly.
4th Q here's hoping.
Absolutely pathetic performance by both sides of the ball. This game is OVER. I see no way they come back with how they are playing.
Done and DONE!! Give us 2 more years and we'll win finally...These players are waaaaaay over matched
The tissue paper softness of the RR era is still prevalent on this team. MSU plays like UM used to. Really disheartening to see this yet again
lol so much fo MSU's pathetic O-line they are dominating our pathetic D-line.. We need to rehash what we are doing there.. pathetic..
lol baker 142 rush yards really? he's pathetic and we have given up the same fucking play all day to him... looks like mattison forgot to adjust this wk.
The play calling is pathetic.. taking denard out every first down, leaving him 2 downs to do something.. and he never runs when a lane opens up on a passing play.. no surprise there.. Looks pathetic
Our tackling has been absolutely awful. We are getting torched, not recognising anything.
Our O also looks utterly incapable of dealing with any sort of pressure. The lack of throwing ability is embarrassing. The only likelihood of scoring seems to be personal fouls and a broken rush for Dernard (and Gholston just got tossed).
Going into the 4th here Hoke, Al and Greg can earn some of their riches. Let's see what happens.
over under that Gholston comes back out on the field
Dantonios 6 time repeat offender rule in full effect
a three time offender, and the game is not over yet
gholsten is a bitch. first he twists denards facemask after the play was over and now he punches lewan! glad he didnt pick us.
Yes, he personifies sparty, but he has talent.
We know he destroys bad competition, but has he ever played a good game against a decent defense? I can not think of one...
Denard is an option QB. His passes have to come off play action in order to be effective
Denard looks to running at 3/4 speed... Injured or just playing tentative?
Narduzzi has absolutely owned Borges
Completely out coached today. Of course, Mattison's troops have to played well either. The inability to stop the one thing MSU needs to do is frustrating. The defense looks like it did last year.
Not hard to do when your team can't complete a pass. Michigan will continue to see teams dare them to pass the rest of the year.
just painful to watch. MSU's defensive gameplan is yet again too much for our offense to overcome.
Dernard seems to be so slow making decisions today. Even on his drops it really looks like he has no idea what he wants to do.
This switching off with Devin fools no-one.
Can anyone seriously fathom that Gholston is still in the game? Pointing at the officials, as Dantonio is totally predictable there.
The coaches have gotten a lot of credit this season, they need to take the heat for this one. Just an awfully coached game. Awful. Terrible in every way. Not prepared, no adjustments, game plan sucked, poor playcalling. Borges and Hoke really sucked today.
1000%. I have no clue what the game plan has been. Very erratic. That said...one play can change this game now.
has sucked ass this game. If this is what we have to look forward to in tough games we are in trouble.
it ain't over!
6 seconds to score. Still a lot of time left. Keep the faith.
Out of nowhere!
D held nicely last time. Let's see if we can do it again.
A quick strike is EXACTLY what we needed. Hopefully that lights a spark for us and our defense steps up on this next possession.
i think we need to stay with the quick throws the rest of the game. its what denard is best at when it comes to passing. we just dont have the bulls for manball right now.
calling some screen passes with the way MSU is selling out blitzing every play? Terrible playcalling by Borges today.
And why the hell is Gholston still in the game? He clearly threw a punch and the ref obviously saw it since he threw a flag, but yet he is still in the game. Unbelievable.
need to cash in
Come on boys
was that? Borges is the Goat of this game, jut fucking horrible. Run the damn ball, or better yet just sneak it.
Seriously it's like GERG stole Borges's body, and is now making calls on offense with the incompetence we have seen today.
i think hopkins could have at least yell that out to denard. it was obvious the man was blitzing
Borges get your fucking shit together
quit giving the game away! That 4th down playcall was horrific.
don't throw a pick 6. Shit
bad game by borges, but it could all be forgotten if we win.
Borges is a fucking moron. Must have been busy stuffing his pie hole while making that brilliant call.
despite the play calling and inept passing, Michigan has a real chance to win this game, but they are running out of opportunities. Let's go get that TD!
I think that missed 4th down will be the game. If we had snuck it with Dernard, we get the 1st, then I think we score with the momentum going with us.
Fuck now that is the game.
never going to win a big ten championship with Denard....unclutch
He is an option QB. That is what he is. Since I do not see UM switching to the option, i foresee more games like this until he leaves.
TV insisting there is a flag, and take the TD back
Borges Nevermind, let the pressure get there again to force a bad throw, on the 50th straight blitz called by MSU.
That should have been a penatly. Clearly a taunt under the new rule.
All game long Borges insisted on making Denard throw from the pocket. All. Game. Long.
Guess what AL? That's the one thing Denard isn't good at. Where where the options? Rollouts? Screens? The diamond form?
Borges got outcoached.
But Denard's lack of skill as a passer is the main culprit.
pass when have guys in your face every play, because of the blitz. And that INT was actually on the wr, he ran a bad route.
Michigan wasn't going to be perfect, and remained in the game until that 4th down gaffe. If they just QB sneak it there or something it might be 21-21. Damn that play call
Borges seems like he's clueless against this d. Where's the screen passes to take advantaage of their aggressiveness?
would think screen would be an obvious call when the defense is blitzing every play.
Borges has royally f'ed this O.
I think it is much more than Borgas.
all you want, but this has been a piss poor game for him. MSU is being predictable on defense, blitzing on every play, but Borges has refused to call plays that take advantage of them being overagressive.
Exactly. Hes ran nothing to combat the blitzes.
4th and inches and you have the most dynamic running threat in cfb and you call play action. This game is probally tied if we just run the ball.
classless. Taunting, late hits, punches. Fuck you MSU.
TD michigan but flag
That I pay extra money each month for the ESPN package and my game has been blacked out since the 4th quarter started.
bottom line is we're the classy program and little brother has exposed their thug image on national television. We have great recruits coming in and we play clean.
Michigan is still a soft program.I think Hoke will change that, but this team is still has a ways to go before they reacquire the toughness they had under Bo.
flat out unprepared for MSU's blitzes, which I just don't understand. We did nothing to counter the blitzing all day. We played so poorly that we let MSU have 15 penalties, play like dirty bastards and never made them pay.
Their D is fantastic. But this is one of the worst displays of sportsmanship I've seen, the late hitting and cheap shots. Reminded of the U 20 years ago.
Take the 4 wins chumps.
Nice scramble Devin
Nice scramble Devin
Nice scramble Devin
anyone else really pissed that they just hurt our QB on a cheap shot
I'm one hundred times more pissed that our coaches had their heads in their own asses for the entire game.
Are timing our snap? They are jumping the snap as soon as Denard points to the ground...
depressing. Losing 4 straight years to this team, that was something I never thought I would see. And to add injury to insult, Denard got hurt on late hit by those dirty bastards.
motivation for next year
devin made 2 of the dumbest plays if not THE dumbest plays in the game. he throws after going 3yds over the line when he had lots of room in front of him. then he runs on 4th and 22?!
It's hard to blame Devin on either of those plays 100%. Let's cut him some slack, he hasn't played much in a Gameday situation. I mean on the LOS pass he probably thought his dropback and sack dodge had taken him deeper, plus he was looking pass the whole way so he wasn't looking for the sidelines.
And on the 4th and 22nd? Yeah that was stupid of him, but the alternative was to dance around the 50 all day waiting to get sacked. They had most of our receivers shut down so I doubt we would have converted
Hoke - you needed to step in and adjust Borges
Borges - you called a horrible game. Never put Denard in a optimal position. They are blitzing the play action side and up the middle all day long. Adjust Al...Adjust. - Nope you didn' we lost. That was the worst call in the fourth and 1. stupid stupid stupid.
Denard - you were challenged to throw and you failed. You threw a pick six to lose the game. You needed to sneak on that 4th and one. you need to think through your plays and be smart, not just explosive. Think Denard. Think!
Woolfolk - you cost us some big plays dude. I hope you dad gives you a sit down and reminds you how to play. You were slow and didnt contain...often
Running backs - where were you? Vince / Fitz. Hopkins as always is more of a risk than reward
Dline- you were pathetic - Martin, Van Bergen - where were you (Roh you have some good tackles)
Oline- you needed to protect Denard and open up lanes. Pick up the blitzes.
Receivers - their corners arent that good. Junior? Koger? Need to get open more guys.
Mattison - Where was you 2nd half magic?
We had plenty of opportunities as WE lost the game, MSU didnt win it. Way to go seniors, i just hope you have the balls to beat Ohio.
Like last year, MSU exploited M weaknesses that have been there all year.
we were able to overcome these with teams that are not defensive powerhouses. State's defense is still way overrated, but they are light years ahead of teams like NW. Every team the rest of the year wil stack the box and dare us to pass down field. It's not just scheme and offensive plan that didn't work, though. If we can't effectively pass, we will not be successful against decent defensive teams.
Horrible offensive play calling by Gorgeous today. Not only did he show a lack of faith in D Rob by unnecessarily inserting Gardner in the game but now he's opened up the floodgates for a quarterback controversy in Ann Arbor for the rest of the season. Denard deserves better than that! State defense played a dirty game and that definitely reflects on the leadership and that coaching staff. Gholston should have been out for that punch amongst other things and that pick six should have been negated for taunting. I'm so pissed right now!
