Getting outhustled and outphysicaled, that sequence to end the half tells the whole story.  We give away a possession by having nothing particular going on aside from dribbling around the perimeter.  They get the ball back and just roll right through multiple defenders to the basket unopposed.

We're down single digits and it feels like we're behind by 25.  All you can say is at least it's close enough that we can come back if we ever start playing like we're capable.

There is no doubt that this game means more to them than us, though.  Body language is telling, just in case you weren't watching the gameplay itself.

with some faith & love from home.

How are we supposed to play D if the refs are calling every single move a foul?

We'll figure it out, but it'll be tough to work through...

C'mon Michigan. You're smart enough -- and tough enough -- to beat this.

And Horford -- he'll step up. He has it in him; we've seen him shine; he can pull it off again.

GO BLUE!!!

... the leaders & the BEST.

If you're going to play zero defense and not get any rebounds, then you have to play very well on offense. That is not happening. A lot of sloppy turnovers and bad decisions. Beilfeldt playing so much has hurt on both ends, but that's not Morgan's fault not his.

The point is to WIN THE GAME.

I'd never want you as a teammate.

I don't care if we're playing MSU in chinese checkers. I want to beat them. I couldn't care less about what this game means.

If you're going to play, play to win. Period.

Otherwise we should just go rest and we shouldn't risk an injury.

I try not to complain every game about the refs, but this crew was been consistently biased against Michigan all year. They are shaping this game instead of the teams playing it out on the floor. None of the analysts has the balls to step up and say it.

plain and simple...we are super soft in the middle and we're getting our butts kicked by a physical team right now...the refs calls have been fair

Outrebounded 20-11. Our leading rebounder is Walton. The rest of the starters have one combined.

So, the numbers aren't, well....here you go....

Michigan eFG% - 40.61%

Michigan OREB% - 26.67%

Michigan FTR - 54.55%

Michigan TOV% - 18.03%

Michigan State eFG% - 50.00%

Michigan State OREB% - 56.25% (those who were talking about getting killed on the boards...yeah...)

Michigan State FTR - 25.81%

Michigan State TOV% - 12.65%

In addition, you have a Michigan PPP at 1.01, compared to MSU's 1.26.

Honestly, down 9 given how badly that half went seems fine.  Should be interesting to see how guys like Payne and Dawson handle the 2nd half; fitness has been an issue for them, and a big reason Wisconsin got back in the game was because MSU's defense was clearly slowing down.

really if you told me that horford and morgan would miss most of the half and we were only down by 9 i'd be okay. they will play almost exclusively this half assuming they dont get quick phantom fouls again and we will be better on both ends of the court

Anybody who thinks we're going to get a one seed if this game continues as it has so far is out of their fucking mind.

I'm sure there will be a selection open thread....should be an interesting read.  I can see it now...."but Lunardi said the game didnt matter....."

are the biggest thing to correct.  we had at least 4 up top that led to at least 8 layups/dunks.  boxing out for rebounds would be nice too.

Man.  Relax people.  It's a 9 point game.  Beilfeldt is playing damn well.  He shot twice becasue nothing else was happening, his shots were better than something another guy would have created out of those two sequences.  The first one he was wide open.  His defense has been damn near magnificent.  I'm curious what travel calls in particular Beilein is pissed about?  Did I miss something?  I think before the Technical he was pissed that Appling was arm-bar-pushing off on his layup.

I do think some are right, we're not into it as much as they are.   Which is fine, oddly enough.  They're probably tired and aren't in the mood for being pushed around by the physical Spartans.  Next week that would be an issue.  Today?  Not really, not a whole lot is riding on this outcome.  THis isn't to say they don't want this W.  I'm sure they do.  Body langauge is telling, however.

Agree on Max, he did what we needed - protected the other bigs foul trouble and got them to the 2nd half. And he played pretty good D. My only criticism would be his pick and roll on O - he seems too hurried, which is probably due to lack of experience and there is probably some "holy crap I am actually playing" factor that is making him play too fast on O.

That arm-bar took 3 steps to accomplish as well. I think that's a big part of the travel talk.

The body language business and "not wanting it" is misleading. The refs set the tone real quick with our bigs taking 3 iffy fouls in less than 2 minutes. If they're playing soft or slow, its because every time they've tried to get aggressive they've gotten called for it.

I still think this game is winnable.  We made some stupid plays and had several turnovers that really helped staee.  They can't play any better.

So Go Blue.  Beat these MFers.

Izzo has manipulated the if/then narrative like a master all season and the media has been complicit.  This is how coaches at major programs survive unfulfilled expectations:  "If we we weren't hurt, then we would have beaten Michigan, won the B10 and been the team playing for a #1."

As I said earlier, the Staee alumni need to hear this.  If Izzo wins today, the season long narrative works as intended and his stature remains intact.  Lose and he has to fall back on the "if we hadn't spen so much time playing with a short roster, then we would have been in better synch against Michigan."
