This gives me hope this team could avoid the let-down we saw from the '09-'10 team and actually live up to a high preseason ranking. Bring on the Dukies!

John Beilein has a fantastic record in the first round of tournaments.  Whether it's a preseason classic, the BTT or NCAAs, the man never loses in round one.

also when will the media get off the 1-3-1 "system" talk, the idiot on ESPN is talking about how UM is such a hard team to prepare for because of their unique system, uh what game was he watching, UM was primarily playing man and a matchup zone, 1-3-1 was probably less than 20% of Memphis possessions.

20% would be pretty significant.  That's what makes it so hard, actually - you'd be silly to "prepare" for it as if it's something we do all the time, because it's not.  In the short time you have, you have to prepare for the defense we use the most.  But nobody ever uses the 1-3-1, and we break it out as a surprise, so it's a terrific weapon to crush momentum.

Michigan's new bulk helped out on the battle of the boards. 35-21 advantage for Michigan

One of the negatives on M last year that they didn't have a signature win? Beating # 8 Memphis should allow us to check that one off

We should all now become Memphis Tigers fans for the rest of the year. Should dominate Conference USA. Love to see one of Memphis' 3 or so losses be on a neutral court to Michigan.

These early wins are so important and we got a good one. Knock off Duke tomorrow and we've got a very good shot at taking the whole thing.

I am impressed with how well michigan (especially burke) was able to handle the defensive pressure of memphis. It is clear why burke got so much hype. Great win to open the season. Bring on duke!

The coach the coach the coach, This guy has his stamp all over this program . The discipline seems off the chart .It's just starting , we've got a few now, but the big time players are lining up for thier turn.Mcgary et al. will give this coach his due as among the very best around.

There must be a yearly or maybe only in special circumstances award named after Mr. Novak for what he has meant to leading this team, as a true student-athlete, from the depths of hell.

He almost seemed relaxed to the flow of not having to will the team to victory , he has passed his energies into the spirit of this team.

It no longer must be, now it  ...is.

It is a real and legitimate player on the NCAA basketball stage.

Let's enjoy this  season as I know Mr. novak will.

We have seen something special come to fruition.

We now go into a season knowing the team has really no reason not to succeed , it will play to it's limit whatever it may be ,and then become better .

Because that's how this coach operates.

I feel so lucky.
