Cleveland State beat Bowling Green earlier tonight in OT 79-73 so Michigan will play CSU tomorrow if they win.
9 PM ESPNU
Death to the Fighting Palindromes!
Anybody have a stream yet? I was hoping to just watch it on espn3.com, but they have blacked me out. I would watch it on ESPNU, but I don't have that. Damn.
Is there any way to get a stream for this? I'm currently out of Big Ten Network range so I'd like to be able to watch, if it is even on tv? Maybe frontrow sports?
Sorry I'm already requesting information, but I've become a big fan of MGoBlog and felt like I should finally become a part of the conversation, rather than just watching what happens and listening to others. I'm a big fan of Tremendous and really enjoy the regular updates on recruiting, especially the rankings (it seems like they used to be weekly... but now they're appearing more irregularly?) Anyways, thanks if anyone has any suggestions!
Welcome -- rankings are still weekly, but if Michigan doesn't pick up a commit then they aren't published on the front page -- they are published in the Diaries section. If you look to the right, under the Site Search box, you'll see that Ace has one that was published yesterday.
BEAT OOEY POOEY!!!!
AWESOME! Thanks a lot brandanomano! This will definitely make my night better! Just finished making myself some Kraft Dinner with ground meat and a tall glass of Cranberry juice, so I'm ready to settle down with some Michigan sports for the evening.
Yuengling Light on deck! I hope Trey has an awesome birthday game!
Live tempo-based stats for the game here, starters posted...
Youngstown State up 12 on Georgia, at Georgia on ESPNU. Beware the zombie cupcakes.
ESS EEE SEE speed doesn't apply to basketball?
Bruce Pearl is calling the game. This is awesome.
Give up Georgia. Its over.
Why is Bacari taping all of our players together?
Hahahaha, "Stick to the game plan", so nerdy.
Bacari and his pregame speeches
"Stick to the game plan." Got it, coach!
"Quemar los barcos" > "Stick to the gameplan"
Anybody else catch his "stick to the gameplan" speach. He's always coming up with a weird new way to motivate. He's the Gerg of our basketball, but with more props.
Also with coaching abilities.
It's on ESPNU as well if it hasn't already been mentioned.
I know it's only basketball and I'm about to get negged for this... But it's kinda of ironic to see the lower level look fairly empty apart from the students. Where are all the alums and older fans for the hoops team?
Probably right. 9 pm is a bit aggressive for a Monday night
I guess our lofty ranking inflated my expectations
It was like this during the early season of the Fab 5 teams as well.
Burke is just automatic from behind the arc
Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis?
I'm suprised that the school has its own sports program and isn't rolled up into one of the other two schools
Acceptance rate: 69% ... what?!
Crisler looks so awesome now
Vogrich not looking good early. I don't see him as more than a sixth man against the big boys.
Please start Stauskus.
Wow GRIIIs head was above the rim
College basketball really needs to shorten the 35 sec shot clock.
Says someone from th B1G.
GRIII needs to work on boxing out...we've given up a lot of offensive rebounds the first two games
is really good
pulling away...:) Deathstar???
Lol at Pearl: "Morgan's like the Death Star, you just can't get around him".
...a nickname was born.
Morgans screen "like the death star." Woah.
Morgan screen = Death Star!
EDIT: Yup, I was late to this party.
That's no screen. That's a space ship!
*It's a space station.
Man, I love this kids athleticism. Never leave us.
Bad BBall since Deathstar comment
So many open looks for IUPUI...the defense scares me going forward.
defense needs work, but this looks like a really good team
OOEY POOEY is hitting everything.
It is IUPUI. Therefore, it would be EEYW POOEY. Which I like better anyway.
damn iupui raining it down from the arc. not bad perimeter D from Michigan, either.
More like we're draining everything. 5-7!
GERG-esque D in this one. Gotta wonder if pushing the tempo like this is gonna run this team down on defense all year.
IUPUI's shooting is bound to cool off. Also, GR3 is unbelievable. Really hope he stays on campus for a few years.
Pulling some Mcgary motor right there
I really like Bruce Pearl as a commentator. The guy definitely knows his stuff.
Stay in the game if he can't hit his open threes. That is the only thing he does well.
Yeah. I like the guy but Stauskas seems like a better option. Morgan looks awesome tonight!
And Stauskas comes in and nails a three.
IUPUI is getting away with quite a bit of hand checking and reaching in, I guess this is a good tune up for B1G play in terms of the referees.
GRIII is really good. Also Vogrich isn't going to start all season.
We are killing the 3 ball this year...We need to work on our post game...Morgan or McGary have to have some sort of back-to-the-basket arsenal
That was Morgan? I be like dang!
Is anyone else enjoying Bruce Pearl's announcing so far?
No, it's turrible. /s
3:51 left in the half and we're into the "Cool Story Bro" part of the broadcast.
Stauskus is LETHAL...WOW
Holy moly this team can shoot.
Dear Tim Hardaway Jr.,
Please quit taking contested long 2 pt jumpers,
Tim still forcing it at times.
It's still early, and maybe it's because I played basketball for a defensive minded coach, but hopefully Beilein shores up the defense over the course of the season. This will probably end up a blowout, but playing good D is going to be crucial for a team that has no problem scoring.
5 freshman...D will take some time
The game is relatively close but we are playing great, at least on offense. Hard to imagine this game staying close in the second half.
is Jordan Morgan's new nickname "The Deathstar?"
You just won the internet! What are you going to do?
They're giving Morgan a lot of room inside off of his cuts..hopefully we feed him a little bit down there in the 2nd half
This team can certainly score.
Burke's cross-over dribble is looking a lot better this season. The one on that last drive reminded me a great deal of how Jimmer would set people up before crossing them over.
I'm glad we got Stauskas this year...Burke is going to be looking at serious NBA $ at the end of the year.
I hope he is by season's end, but I don't think he is a top pick at this point. He is a very good college point guard, but he over dribbles at times, still has a tad too many turnovers and has questionable decision making at times. Don't take this as me saying I want anyone else as M's point guard, but he is undersized by NBA standards and unless he develops more as a playmaker and cuts down on TOs and questionable decisions he won't be a top pick IMO.
If he demonstrates better decisionmaking this year, while continuing to be able create off the dribble, he'll probably play himself to a late 1st round pick.
After flirtingwith the NBA as a fringe second-rounder, I think the temptation maybe too much for Trey.
Don't get me wrong; would love him to stay, but I don't begrudge him the chance...
Him and Spike are ggoing to be really important to this program, Stauskas to spread the floor with his shot and Spike as a reliable ball-handler to give Trey a breather now and to be a stabilizer if a freshman Derrick Walton isn't ready immediately next year
Some iffy D, and not much inside game.
HOWEVA! When you can shoot 70% on 3's against D1 competition, well... screw the inside game!
Both of those issues should improve when we get McGary and Horford (both of whom could be better than Morgan) healthy. This team has crazy talent.
Cut to Texas just in time to see this Prince character throw up a free throw even Shaq would laugh at. How can you play basketball and be that bad of a shooter?
GRIIII is good at basketball
Vogrich needs to live up to his recruiting hype as a shooter into practical use
Jordan Morgan still scares me every time he touches the ball
McGary needs to lose some weight and get in game shape
Would like to see Horford have some luck staying healthy.
Thankfully, Bruce Pearl is a better announcer than a coach
Agree on Vogrich. At this point I think Robinson and Stauskas are far better shooters.
The thing I don't get about him is that, in warmups, I would see him go 8-10 straight makes multiple times...but something just happens in the games, even when he gets looks that are similarily open and in the flow of the offense.
Once JB fixes this defense, we may be the best team in the country.
I think we already are. Tell me on a neutral court who'd we lose to? I'll take our squad & coach over anybody's.
I think this team is great and all, but how could we have any idea how good all others are? We'll have a good idea how we stack up when March comes around.
Yeah. There aren't many teams that can match up with our talent, depth and coaching
Ad made me vomit. Seriously, all over my jammies
Short end of the shrimp?
Starting to like him. "Yea, its cause Jeff Van Gundy is a small guy!" Haha
Man, mgoblog is fast. I wasn't even third to the punch.
Spike Albrecht is from Detroit?
is not from Detroit, to my recollection
Did they just Spike Albrecht from Detroit?
Hit. Your. Free Throws.
Crown Point, Indiana.....Detroit. Close.
Nice and 1 there. Hopefully he can keep it up to spell Burke this year.
I like hitting a lot of threes but why not use mcgary and horford to attack a tiny team
Love me some GRIII
Wow. Nice Timmy
Oh damn Tim!
And Timmy getting some.
Oh no. Timmy looks like he got hurt.
Just a booboo
It looked like the trainer was using the cold spray.
Yea i'll watch that highlight again please
Lol McGary...wtf was that.
That was embarrassing...
Not slamming that home is equal to Rawls not running north south. Slam it home young moose!
C'mon Mitch, finish it!
This is the same dude that BROKE A BACKBOARD. Finger-roll layup? C'mon man!
Definitely out of shape. It's noticeable on both ends, but within a few weeks, maybe a month, he won't be. And as always, he continues to give 100% on both ends. This team is just fun to watch! Conversely, Morgan being in the best shape of his life gives us an extremely big and athletic front line.
Stauskas is...just wow..loving the freshmen
He's as good as advertised so far...
Morgan has gotten a lot better. He is a legit scorer.
Jump-Shot... Morgan??? What is going on?!
Trey is pretty good.
Love how they are giving Morgan some touches.
We need to have him and McGary get some touches on the box. With Burke, Hardaway, GRIII, Stauskas and Vogrich out on the arc, they will get a lot of isos.
Hi there, Mr. Horford.
That's how you do it!
Holy Horford! Didn't know he had that kind of athleticism.
Horford in on the action. So much talent. Very fun team to watch.
What the hell, Horford?!
Holy wow Horford. I be like dang, where did that come from?
If McGary can get down to his Junior year HS shape our team will be ridiculous. C'mon Mitch
I just like Horford's response to the and 1...just like...yea i do that like it's nothin
Dunking all over defenders!
Pearl is cracking me up
"Burke has some tree trunks under those trousers"
Tree trunks underneath those trousers.
What would you know about Aaron Craft Mr Pearl!?
Pearl: "If Aaron Craft is not at Ohio State..."
Crickets....lol that was rather awkward, anybody for some BBQ?
The Trey Burke Eurostep! Haha.. Some NBA shit right there. That's a Manu, Rondo, Russell Westbrook move
What I liked best was all the non-scoring plays THJ was making - assertive on the boards, setting up his teammates - you didn't see that as much last year
Love watching this offense. How far have we come from the Amaker years!
I see why Trey flirted with the league. Makes it look effortless.
I see why Trey flirted with the league. Makes it look effortless.
If we can put it together defensively and at the line, the skies the limit for this team.
I am loving our faster tempo this season. Last year, I know we had to operate at a slower pace to conserve energy with our thin bench, but all those 60-55 games got a little tiresome. I love that we now can drop a hundred on somebody.
I like this announcing duo and their awkward random comments
Also, in semi-related news, Darius Morris has (finally) looked pretty good with the Lakers the last few games since we canned Mr. Potato Head. He still gets lost on screens quite often, but frankly EVERY one else in L.A.'s been pretty guilty of that this season (sigh) He's been great at bodying up on his man and using his size to deny penetration. His aggressiveness has been a welcome contrast to Steve Blake's passivity and he's given some quality minutes in relief, to the point where he might well be the main backup at point when Nash gets back.
This is an exceptional team, but man, the college basketball regular season is frustrating to watch, because more so than in any other sport, there's this sense that its all sort of meaningless. Our sucess or failure as a team will be juged based on whether we luck into a good or bad day sometime several months from now in late March.
Our 2012 Big Ten title was definitely not meaningless. Yeah, the tourney is the big deal, but if you can win your league that's pretty big, too.
Of course the advantage is that there are more games and in order to make it to the Big Dance you have to have a pretty good regular season. Also there seem to be more marquee games.
I feel like we very well may be looking at the best offense in the NCAA.
It is always good to see the walk-ons and third string guys getting points at the end.
I have two kids at Cleveland State so I might be somewhat conflicted tomorrow night.
Ok.......no I'm not. Screw CSU.........
So umm, this team can kinda shoot the rock a bit.
Ace. Recap. STAT.
I can't wait until ESPN steals this. Just awesome.
I see you've already learned your lesson and added the watermark. Wise decision.
Can't + past 5, so I'll throw in a
Space, bitches. SPACE.
Deepest Beilein team and Michigan team in recent memory.
Most quality big men Beilein has had at Michigan.
Most skilled team Beilein has ever had.
I thought the team looked a bit shaky on defense early, but the halftime adjustments were great and this team is flat out skilled, and dare I say it, the most fun team to watch since the Fab Five! The freshmen will only get better and love the effort defensively for most of the second half. Burke also took it to another level. This team could be scary good, but I will temper the excitement until they play a decent team. Love what I'm seeing though.
I'm not saying that's how far this team is headed (or that they can't go further)...NCAA Tournament is so much about matchups. But this is without question a perfect team to do serious damage.
During the B1G season they'll run up against teams that know their system and have familiarity with players. But come tournament time, when you look at system, talent, depth, versatility...you're not going to find too many teams that are better. This team can go big, small, fast or slow --- and they can be patient enough to find a matchup that works.
I know we're a looooong way away, and I'm going to enjoy it game by game. But I've been around basketball for many many years and this is unquestionably a GREAT team in the making. The top 5-6 teams are all there as well...this team deserves to be mentioned with the best.
And for those who want to relate it to football. Football is different, Football got good coaching and overachieved. They're an offense with one superstar, one top notch OLineman, a couple solid players with elite potential and a bunch of "every year we get guys at least this good because we're Michigan." In 2-3 years that should change and they should truly be an elite team. With basketball --- the time is NOW.
Anyone else think Stauskus should be starting over Vogrich? I bet he is by the end of the year. I like Vogrich, but Stauskus is better in every area save D, and he hasn't looked that bad there either.
It's all about the D. This team has TONS of scoring options, but some D problems. As soon as Stauskus can put up competent D consistently (mid-year, I would think), he'll take over starters minutes, if not actualy starting.
I would prefer his scoring, ball handling and poise coming off the bench and strengthening the second unit. Vog can be an effective starter because with the first unit he doesnt have to make plays. He only has to knock down open shots and hustle on D.
Vogrich's defense isn't very good anyway. Staukas looks really good shooting wise and his height is an advantage.
I think people are under-rating the leadership provided by vogrich he does a lot of litttle things right. A lot of teams have guys that start the game but don't nescessarily play more minutes than their backup but it can help the team stay consistent in starting of games and keeping a level head.
I think 13 should start, and within the first one or two whistles (assuming they are 3 - 4 min into the game) either mcgary or stauskus should come in, no matter the situation. If small is working let 11 go shoot it, if we need in size put in Mitch
Anybody know anything about these guys. I know they haven't been bad the last couple of years and Norris Cole lit it up.
Also, if we beat Clev St, anybody else want Lehigh to beat Pitt so we get to see us go up against McCollum.
What an exciting team to watch! There's obviously still a long way to go until March, and a lot of work to do before then. Still though, this team can ball!
it's nice to have genuinely high expectations for the Bball team. Could be ELITE this year. WOW!
I think Horford or McGary will start over Vogrich eventually...
Or it'll be a situation where he always starts each half, but he's out by the 1st media timeout (16:00).
Step into the spotlight, and enjoy.
