Completely agree. Thanks for saying my thoughts
"Coach Mattison told me what the Ravens were about, what he thought," Beyer said. "He definitely encouraged me. I hold his opinion in high regard."
Completely agree. Thanks for saying my thoughts
Good that you got that on record.
If any of you guys are using these gross fountains at Golden Corral you're crazy.
Those things are fucking disgusting. What if a kid sneezes into it? Who knows what fall into those things and is breeding in that hot chocolate.
MGoBloggers, please, for my sanity. Boycott the CG chocolate fountains.
...okay sorry, back to bitching about the refs.
I agree with the classless chants from the ISU fans -- pretty lame.
I have a very hard time getting into basketball because of how many times I see the official obviously and unabashedly handicap one team, and basically give the other team a HUGE advantage. Sometimes the handicapped team can overcome the disparity in calls, other times they cannot. This one was bad, IMO, but no where near as egregious as last year's NCAA Final, nor the Illinois vs. UNC NCAA Final a few years back. I'll watch, and root for my Wolverines, but I just feel like the games are fixed more often than not.
A healthy, fully in game-shape, well practiced McGary and this game would've been a 7-10 point win. It's all good.
That was a lower scoring game than I expected. Some really bad looking numbers for Robinson (4-14) and Caris (2-9). Michigan's little run in the second half came off defense...they are going to need more of that to get out in transition.
- We need to shoot better and get McGary in the rotation more when he gets more stamina going.
-Walton and Irvin looked a bit shaky, they're freshmen, they'll get better
- At the end of the game, we did a bad job of trying to get open and go for 3's.
- Morgan and Horford had bad games, especially Morgan.
- It wasn't the worse loss, we can learn from it, it's still a great team that will contend all year.
I actually thought Walton had a good game. He finished around the rim and his turnovers were low. For me I wanted more from GR3.
They really have to improve their weak side defense. Shot selection also has to improve. They'll be fine in the long run. Hilton is a tough place to play and they were definitely flustered in the first half.
Also, Cyclone fans are massive D bags. Only place in America that rushes the floor when favored in Vegas.
I thought LeVert and GR3 forced things on O a few times. LeVert's time in the front court should be limited/eliminated, if a switch forces him down low we need to look to help ASAP.
Great to see McGary back and doing McGary things like his steal + coast to coast. Walton played very well considering the environment.
I get that this team can make the three...but I felt like a lot of shots were not good shots. Rebounding was also frustrating to watch.
I'm not terribly upset about this loss though. I think the kids hear the coaching better after a loss than a win so I think the issues will be sorted out in no time.
When Stauskas threw that dunk down was the best part of the game
Are we really that upset about the "Fuck McGary" chant? What, you think it hurt his feelings? I'm sure he'll recover.
we just didnt execute
Terrible. Fire Borges. But really. It is November and ISU is a good team. Tough early game with a young team. They'll be fine.
Didn't want a loss this early.
We didn't make our 3-point shots because they were contested - the only way you can open that up is to go inside. When we tried to go inside, they were fairly rough and were not getting called, but on othe other end of the court we couldn't have a clean block without getting called. Because of that, our defense opened up, probably more than it needed to. When you're playing a different game at each end of the court it makes things really hard. This is a major issue with NCAA basketball - either the team needs to learn how to adapt to it or we're going to have another dissapointing end to our tournament run.
Also, even mentioning the OC in a basketball thread should be a 1-week ban.
Thank God we did not lose to NW in football this weekend. The board would be sucidal.
Whether it's sarcasm or not, I agree about the OC comments. The football threads are already unreadable - not it's going to pop up everywhere?
Disappointing. We seemed in control for long stretches but didn't finish either half well. We settled for too many threes, a lot of them rushed. It's going to take a little while for the offense to get the kind of consistent flow it had last year, with an experienced Burke. We're also going to have to figure out how we're going to defend big 4s because the LeVert experiment there was not the best. Oh well, it's a learning experience.
Stauskus has added a dimension this year and looked like our best player at times, but it look like he still gets a little too caught up in the moment emotionally. McGary is a stud--hopefully he'll be more centrally incorportated in the offense as he gets healthier (including the late-game offense). Spike looked like he was in control out there, and I liked what I saw from Walton, too. I was curious not to see McGary and Horford out there together. I think it may have helped get McGary more active on offense in a sort of Webber-like role, and we could've used more protection around the rim on D.
Not sure what to think about GRIII--he seems like a fourth or fifth option on offense who should just be getting clean-up buckets and alley-oops. Doesn't seem like someone who should be taking jumpers (especially 3's). I think the offense should run through Stauskus, McGary, and Walton in games, and that's where it will end up.
Levert didn't help make the case that he's a viable crunch time player against real competition.
In sum, fire Borges.
We looked good for our first road game. It's early but I would like another consistent threat outside, besides Stauskas. Gave up too many O Rebs & second chance points.
anybody wonder why McGary was not on the post late in the game. We are going to have to establish post presence and force teams to double to get better shots. ISU won that game because they exploited the matchup up of LeVert guarding Niang on the post late in that game
It could be just that they're easing him back in the rotation. He played more total minutes (22) than I would have expected coming in.
His first post move was great, he just didn't finish. But it was a real good look. After that, he started settling for quick pull-ups and turnarounds. Hope he looks to work his defender more like the first time he caught it in the post.
Late in the game it looked like we weren't being patient enough on offense to look into the post.
Levert didn't look like he's played very much post defense before this game. Seemed pretty hopeless.
This is a good loss. This will prepare the young guys for what they will be getting into on 12/3 and in the B1G season.
Off to Puerto Rico
Also, team looked good for its first road game. Not too upset at all about thus loss. We could use one more solid shooter...hopefully it will be Irvin eventually. I really like this team. Everyone contributes.
For non stop hackey journalists and posters writing about the football team trying to avoid a second loss in the state of Iowa.
It's not surprising that we didn't get anything considering that it was the NC game refs that we were playing with.
When Mcgary's back in the starting lineup, we'll be starting 4 sophomores and a freshman. And we lost the POY. It'll may take a little time--but it only matters what happens in March and April--as we discovered last season.
We have played 3 games. We must be perfect now and if we aren't, it is because we are Michigan and we can't have anything nice.
Many concerns, but only only the third game of the season, so I'm not going to panic:
1. Interior defense: Really bad to say the least... I don't know why Irvin played that long when Morgan alongside McGary would have been a much better defensive option... Either way, we have to be a lot better there.
2. Way too many 3s: While shooting the three ball is one of our strong suits, we cannot really rely on it to keep us in these types of games... Rarely fed the ball into McGary (his main points really just came on putbacks) and GRIII was very unintelligent with his shot selection. While I can deal with Stauskas taking 8-10, I don't like the rest taking 25 combined.
3. Working the ball around: While we looked very good at times here, the ball movement looked very shaky especially late in the game (probably because of youth). I feel like this is a team made to have a solid combination of a powerful inside game with a sharp threat outside as well. Heck, I feel like we look the best in transition. This team is probably the most complete that I have seen in years... We need to put it all together now.
Again, still terribly early in the season... This upcoming weekend should really give this team strong experience against more quality opponents...
Also, ISU is a bunch of classless neanderthals, students at least.
Number 2 was a common complaint last year and is going to be a complaint for as long as Beilein is here. I've just accepted it. I just hope Stauskas can be as clutch as Burke was, and I think he can be.
Team felt a little out of synch during different parts of the night. Great to have McGary back but it was obvious the rest of the team hasn't played a ton with him this year.
But who cares???? Why not just look forward to a high profile game between two highly ranked teams. I'm a big fan of our team and I saw yesterday that we have everything we need to have another great year. We were right in it until the end and Beilein got some great info on what we'll need to do in crunch time without Trey. I think that is the thing we need to learn. What offense will we implement in close games down the stretch.
I'll be rooting for ISU in the Big 12, but thought their fans were losers when then stormed the floor and that was before I learned what they were chanting about McGary.
How will this board react if Borges isn't fired?!? I actually hope he's given one more year.
He gained a lot of muscle and weight. Plus his vertical is really good. So fans thought that meant he was ready to "breakout". That's how a hype train starts. Then when you actually see him play, reality sets in.
Borges or McGary?
And his 3pt shot was spot on the first few games this season. He actually started out the same last year too, before his shooting tailed off a bit.
I don't see why he's regarded as a lottery pick. He has never been very consistent and it seems that when the game is close he is rarely the player that gives us a boost. I'm not gonna pass judgement yet but I'm still not impressed. Stauskas is far more of a complete player and IMO has more of a nba future
I've said it beginning early last season: GRIII can't create for himself and is lacking in ball handling skills. He is pretty much a glorified recipient of alley oops. With his body and athleticism, if he had some confindence in himself and his dribbling, there's no reason why he couldn't posses the same overpowering driving ability that THJ showed. Until he does that, he'll just be an under producing hype machine in college on his way to the NBA lottery.
I think he can, but he's trying to rely too much on athleticism and just blow straight to the basket every time in isolation opportunities. He should use more ball fakes and shiftiness with his body (like using his shoulders to fake one way before crossing over). When he does beat his man, when the help defense is there and ready, he needs to do more jump stopping and ball faking. Help defenders are almost always ready to jump out of their shoes going for a shot fake. Athelticism is more useful for taking advantage when defenders are out of position than to get defenders out of position.
I'm always less bummed out by early-season losses in basketball because they usually don't hurt you late in the year unless the opposition just craters. ISU looked like a tourney team, and a road loss is going to help this team establish itself going forward. It remains a team a level behind MSU, but otherwise this team still looked decent despite McGary coming back from injury and the team still finding itself with the new parts.
It's borges's fault, he should be fired.
Im just waiting for someone to gif that Stauskas dunk.
I don't know... That dunk stacks up very well with the one THJ threw down in the last game that shall not be mentioned... Though, THJ's was on a much bigger stage.
I just want Nic shooting our late threes to get back into the game more often.
