The rare non-consecutive double post.

Just remind them that they went to Iowa State (if college at all) and it will be okay.

They weren't chanting overrated...

much tougher to shoot on an away court; especially first road game. different background, crowd, etc. the game all boiled down to not shooting. they got open looks for the most part but went about 8-30 from 3 and poor FTs.
i actually don't mind having a good kick in the pants early in the season to reduce the players' overconfidence and allow beilein to push harder.
definitely outmuscled on the boards though. mcgary often the only guy near the hoop; especially on offense.

Lost on the road to a good team. We're still immensely talented and young, McGary is still getting back to 100% and we have one of the best coaches in the business. We're fine

lol.. no? They didn't?

I think he meant UNC.

Lousy game, but it'd be a bad idea to consider throwing in the towel on the season. Tough environment against a solid and well coached team with a significant dose of home-cooked officiating. Cold shooting on top of that. McGary really playing for the first time in months. Let it be a learning experience. We were never going to win all of our road games. This was a difficult one.
We got little from Robinson tonight, nothing from LeVert. Time for a couple guys to step up. We can play better, and we will.
November 17th, 2013 at 7:08 PM ^
I don't see significant improvement from last year. Missed a bunch of open jumpers, made some bad turnovers, got bullied in the post.
I at least liked that LeVert was aggressive. Shots weren't falling (particularly in the second half), but he'll bounce back. I'm worried about GRIII though.
November 17th, 2013 at 8:05 PM ^
Agreed on GRIII. Terribly overrated.
November 17th, 2013 at 7:06 PM ^
It's that the refs don't seem to fear or even respect him. We didn't get any calls in the championship game (and went against the ultimate referee intimdator in Pitino) and didn't get calls today.
You think Izzo's team would have been shafted the same way? Pitino? Bob Knight? I love that Beilein is not like those coaches and is a true class act. But sometimes it can hurt us

This was a good test for a young team, but it will pay dividends for the B1G season, and we'll be better for tournament time.

You think he is forcing his offense to jack up 30 threes? This isn't like football where everything is called from the sideline.
The 3 is part of the offense but Beilein would prefer most of the shots to be around the basket. The players have to recognize what is a good 3 and what isn't. That's a process.

Thanks for the "lesson," but you have no idea about Beilein's philosophy if you think his goal for this offense is to jack up 30 threes a game.
(And yes, I did play basketball, for a long time. But we didn't run the Beilein offense and I bet your teams never did either - if you even played.)

ISU is a quality team with a very good coach who just played the biggest home game in history. They will make the tourney and probably get a 5-6 seed.
This team is young and missing Burke- no one is filling that hole right now, espeically the freshmen. Levert is being leaned on a ton offensively right now. I think he's still a pleasent surprise, but we have stauskas as the #1 offensive guy and levert as #2- that's not good.
Let's hope Irvin and Walton can develope and GRIII can start playing like an NBA 1st round pick. until then, we'll have trouble scoring, especially late in the game.
November 17th, 2013 at 7:24 PM ^
let's not get carried away now. they play teams like kansas and texas every year. they probably played iowa in the olsen/raveling days too. there are probably many others too that rate higher.
November 17th, 2013 at 7:15 PM ^
Does anyone think we lose this game with a fully healthy McGary who had been practicing and playing the whole season? No way. It's only going to get better and better.

I love College Football because every single game counts.
But I'll admit, sometimes it's nice when you have games that don't really matter that much :) Like now.
