Michigan vs Iowa Announcing Crew Nightmare (Not Pam Ward)

Submitted by Fhshockey112002 on

Well I hate to be the one to start complaining already but ESPN has announced the crew for the Michigan game.

Play-by-Play = Dave Pasch

Color = Chris Spielman

Sideline Reporter = Quint Kessenich

After Spielman's terrible "commentary" earlier this year I am hoping the radio and tv sync up well tomorrow.

Edit: Changed the title so no one was mistaken that it could be Pam Ward, sorry for the scare.

Beth Mowins is miles beyond Pam Ward in terms of competency.  In my opinion, she's a generic, average football announcer, but with a female voice.  Frankly, in the standard Mowins-Bellotti pairing, Bellotti is the one who is tough to listen to.

Pam Ward shouldn't be allowed near sports.

If he uses the line "they are gonna come in there and get punched in the mouth" or "those guys are gonna get punched in the mouth, what are they gonna do about it"  I might tie up a noose and hang myself.  Oh wait!  My mute button works!

I agree, but there are a host of bad ESPN announcers/commentators. I went with the one that most strikes fear in the hearts of Michigan fans, not me personally. There are a lot of Lions fans who want nothing to do with Millen and Millen nothing to do with Michigan football, even as a commentator.

Despite the fact that it seems like the board dislikes every announcer on every network I think it's pretty simple.

Michigan wins = good, unbiased and fair announcers

Michigan loses = crappy, one-sided idiots who don't know football from fly-fishing

Sort of like the officiating...........

It doesn't matter whether Michigan wins or loses, especially since most games I watch don't even feature Michigan.  Most commentators have a hard job, I'll admit, but most are fucking horrible.  Very few actually know anything about the team other than some highlighted facts for them.

My favorite announcer is Gus Johnson, for obvious reasons.  He makes the game exciting to watch and doesn't constantly say stupid thing that are ridiculously wrong.

Maybe it's just me then.  But i have noticed that no matter who gets assaigned to our games the board generally feels they are the worst announcers available.  I guess I dont pay that much attention to them - I couldn't tell you who does our games 30 seconds after they're over and could care less who is calling it.

Except Pam Ward. She really does suck.

I will respect your opinion but... Musberger's would continually boot lick Laurinaitis, even when aforementioned neanderthal would jump on piles late and then jump around like a clown.  Also, Musberger's defense of the Vest post-firing was sycophantic.

Pasch I see, but Spielman not only doesn't suck, he is excellent. He is enthused, objective about OSU, and talks about fundamental football, pointing out tackling problems in particular. He is good--not my first choice, but good.

I disagree, he's pretty bad.  Usually doesn't know what he's talking about unless it's completely obvious.  I wouldn't call him enthusiastic, just not dead boring like others.  He does try to rip Michigan when he can but not too much that it's dead obvious.

Herbstreit is a way better announcer and is very objective in his analysis.  He seems to do his homework for the most part too.
