In case the LiveBlog doesn't get off the ground. Let's try to keep it clean folks.
Michigan vs. Indiana Open Thread
Should we set up something separate for play-by-play since this thread is likely to be slammed with comments? Also, thanks for creating this thread.
ESPNU showed Denard warming up... Dude is ripped.
I'm pumped for this one! I'm looking forward to seeing Robinson and the rest of our offense racking up some big points in this game. If our defense can shut down Chappell then we'll slice the jugular that is the Hoosier offense.
Pam Ward just came on and I'm already annoyed
Have you noticed how close in tone and tenor Ward's voice is to the color commentator. Weird. And doubly annoying.
Apparently Pam Ward is wearing a wig made from hay.
and a channel that shows all of the women's college championships games on...
Let's see if this works?:
Yep, got a LiveBlog going, so if anyone feels like joining we can do live PBP
Nevermind, LiveBlog is up and running, hit the main page
Need to download something?
Pam Ward is not attractive. Why can't Michelle Beadle do this game?
Pam is more mannish than I recall.
No makeup for Pam today?
Uh ohh, must be a big game EspnU has Mr. Pam Ward on the call.
I think this thread will have more comments on Mr. Ward than on the actual game.
I would be totally fine with our road uniforms if we'd just get rid of those weird stripes running up the sides. They look like a floppy pair of suspenders.
That and Bill Lynch gum tossing.
Lets get em Shoelace & co.
run through the line like that because you just got to think to yourself those poor bastards on defense lol. Man that kid can fly.
Lets get a stop now D, because they cant stop our ground game.
omg, this is looking pretty for the offense.
Love Tate congratulating Denard just there!!
Did everyone else catch that??
Tate's turnaround, regarding attitude, I think is fantastic. Everyone blasted him (myself included) when he had problems, but now I think it's time to give credit where credit is due. Major kudos to Tate for turning things around, i love to see that.
Also credit our coaching staff too, b/c they no doubt played a part. The massive number of transfers are not good, but, there are good things they're doing too relative to coaching players and managing personalities well. Tate, IMO, is evidence of this.
quarterback to Michigan. He's displayed some awesome support to Robinson as of late. I know he's thinking "man I wish that was me playing" but he's not letting his ego take control of his attitude and that is a sign of maturity. He's a great teammate.
The Roy Roundtree curse lives on, just can't get that extra yd or two to get in the endzone.
Thing is though, there's no way he would have gotten that far were it not for the outstanding downfield blocking by Grady. So, I'm looking at that play as a positive for Grady, rather than a negative for Roundtree for not getting in the end zone.
Maybe they should bring Tate out for a series to do a slow drive, just to keep our defense off the field. These 90 second drives is going to where down our own defense....
The 90 second drives are exciting, but, yeah, I agree w/ you.
I am sooooo thankful you're nowhere near our coaching staff.....there are reasons you're watching this from your couch.
Cannot give up a 99 yard drive here.
Why can't we just have an even mediocre defense?
Yeah a stop here would have been nice, can't give up 99 yard drives and expect to win. Michigan's offense needs to keep the defense off the field.
and there's the 99yd drive just like Illinois
Man I'm getting some really scary flashbacks to the Illinois game right now..
Gotta cut down on those penalties
99 yards to a td? Well that bad snap caused it all. Should be 21-7.
I blame moosman
It will be a very long day for Mich
Man if we had a half decent defense.....the possibilities.
Honestly we could be a top 10 team if our D didn't suck so much.
Can't get any worse..
GERG. Worst coach in college football.
Don't know about worst coach but I don't understand why he is blitzing with J.T. Floyd
What he could he possibly do to be the worst? Light Kovacs on fire?
The heads in the sand on him being anything but the worst coach in college football are mind-boggling.
the IU stadium announcer
Nice pick! Now for the momentum to change.
As IU kept driving down the field, I got more and more pissed at UM's bend but don't break defense - CB's with such soft coverage.... and there you go, INT. That is why you play bend but don't break.
Still, it drives me crazy and I do hate it.
"break his leg" "break his leg?" What the fuck IU?
What????? Did you hear that in the crowd? I didn't catch that.
They're f*#king disgusting, chanting "break his legs, break his legs". Stay classy Indiana.
Nice drive to retake the lead, ran the clock a little. But here comes the defense again.
Full recovery from another Roundtree at the 1, and 99 yard drive momentum..
Denard at 305 (153/152) total yards already. 600 total a possibility???? Incredible first half.
Nice stop, now for another one. And I will be happy going into halftime.
in this game.
Time to dump the 3-3-5, it isn't working, and this "bend don't break defense" HAS to go, cuz seems like it's doing more "break" then "bend"... thoughts?
I think GERG is doing the best he can with what he's got. Which is not a lot of talent in the defensive backs. Only his second year. They are playing against a senior QB who isn't getting a lot of pressure.
I've seen the same script play out for six years now. We said the same thing in year two at SU.
This is GERG. He's a terrible coach. He doesn't coach up talent, he runs it into the ground.
He was a head coach at Syracuse, not a coordinator. You need to stop transferring your latent GERG-as-HC hate towards him as our DC. He's not working with a whole lot out there right now.
HE WAS THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR AS WELL.
If anyone thinks that Indiana has more talent on offense than we do on defense then they are dumb.
That's debatable, but what isn't debatable is that they have far more experience on O than we do on D. There aren't many freshmen and career backups starting for them on offense.
Obi is a joke and the fact that we don't have anyone who can beat him out should tell you something. Cam Gordon is not a safety, but is playing there. Kovacs may make plays in the box, but he can't cover. Yes, it is all Gerg's fault.
I think we can pull it out, but this is what the rest of the season is going to look like
I hate how we just wait for the ball catcher to come to us instead of going after him as soon as the ball is thrown. Worst secondary ever.
I got $20 that says GERG doesn't change a thing..
4th quarter, ~1:30 left, Indiana 42, Michigan 38, Michigan with the ball at the 30...I can see it already.
if a teacher show they are incapable of teaching their students, they should get fired, we all agree with that. greg has shown he can't teach these players what to do, they have the athleticism, he just isn't good at conveying his schemes, its not just having the knowledge, he needs to be able to teach it.......and he can't. he needs to go
This defense is absolutley pitiful. I really just should watch the offense and while the defense is on, go into another room and hope we can at least stop them from getting in our red zone.
Earn your money now GERG, earn your money now.
Little Caesars Pizza Bowl or bust! Our "D" is a disgrace!
I decided to wear Adidas today instead of Nike. I'm switching back to "Woodson" M shoulder away.
I'm not supertisious by the way this was meant to be a joke. Seriously though Greg Robinson needs to go. He hasn't brought any improvement to this defense and with the talent we have on D we shouldn't be this bad against offenses like Umass, BG or Indiana.
These guys aren't slow, and they can be physical...just don't seem like they know what to do, and not prepared.
No pressure on the qb whatsoever !! #@#@##
Second downs are killing us. We stop them on first down and give up nine yards on 2nd and 10. We're getting out-RPS'd on second down too often.
Our defense is terrible. C'mon now... it has to be better than we saw in the 1st half. That was wretched.
has the ball, I will be extremely worried.
throw passes. Doesn't even pretend to hand off. Don't know if we could stop that. IU would have to beat itself. D will have to do SOMETHING different or this will happen.
Croud will be out of it, and Indiana will get desperate...Robinson has to figure out a way to GET ONE STOP.
Denard orchestrates a couple 8 minute drives to keep IU off the field.
Mich D will shut them down in the second half. Don't know where my confidence is coming from but I gotta good feeling.
I have to give you the benefit of the doubt
I go with that. I'll just relax and have a beer now.
Here's hoping Indiana gets called for at least one offensive holding this half...
but is there a source I can find to watch the Michigan Mercyherst hockey game tonight? I don't have Comcast.
OK, making progress!
I love our offense.....this is fun to watch !!
The pistol is a difficult offense to defend to begin with. Add in the fact that they have a 5th year qb who I would put up against any other in the big 10 (except Denard ) and the fact that we have a VERY young secondary and this is what you get. We all knew it was going to be a shootout. We just have to hope for a stop and the chance to get up by a couple of scores. That fumble hurt bad. Michigan has to get to an early lead on any team they play and force them to be more one dimensional to take some of the guessing out of it for this young secondary. This is the most balanced Indiana has been all year and it shows because they have us on our heels the whole first half.
Junior scoring makes me happy!
Please, please stop IU just once.
Seriously.....fucking announcer said "Ernest Hemmingway excuse me Junior Hemmingway...." WOOOOOWWWWWWW.
I heard that too but I'm pretty sure Ernest Hemmingway didn't have that great of hand eye coordination.
I had no problem with Pam Ward but that is inexcusable
Do some homework
I think part of the problem with the defense is that our offense is to good. Look at TOP. The defense can't get a breather. I mean, I love 50 second drives. But that doesn't help our defense.
I can't take all these muffed punt returns anymore.
Those assholes are cheering right now!!! WTF Indiana!?
taking shape. Denard out. IU rolls
This defense is one big face palm.
I'm turning the set off.
FUCK THE 3-3-5 IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!
GerG you are walking a thin line!!!!!! RR does not approve!
Thank goodness he's ok.
Michigan's 3-5-5 is working great for Indiana....
I mean 3-5-3.... But 5-3-5 would help
But we're scoring too quickly...
this is a blast but I am not sure I am cardiovascularly available for this all year!!!!! hahahaha!!! LOVE IT !!
Can't we hold them just once? IU's strategy is to let Mich score easily, then grind it out against our D. Hope it doesn't work.
Is there any live streaming of the game on the internet?
Yes, in fact I'm watching it online now
ATDHE, second Mich link
Thanks so much!
There's a thread about this on the board, like 2 below this one.
are not helping. Just boot it and pin them deep.
Both our offense and our defense are ridiculous. Sadly this is in two very different ways.
I was thinking about this just now. Has there been any other team in recent memory.... or ever for that matter.... with such a huge disparity in the performance levels of their O and D as M this year?
Great Stop D!
we gotta go for it. I'm more confident we can get 1 yard than I am we can make a stop.
One more hold!
Hope you can come back in.
give a receiver on 3rd & 16?
3rd and 19 and can't get a stop WTF!
we should do fine in the B10
Unless you come into contact with a defense.
IU is a football bottom feeder? Mid-level O w/ a terrible D. This game doesn't fill me w/ confidence for the rest of the schedule.
Hopefully we can hang on here, and beat Illinois and Purdue to get to 7-5. That's all I ask.
Everyone say it with me: "Dont Punt the ball"
"Don't Punt the Ball!"
Lol like a 20 yard loss for Indiana on that
BIG 68 tearing down Chappell's wall!
What does it say when Indiana thinks they can go for it on fourth and long? At least we got that stop.
We need to drive the field, take some time off the clock and score, get us a lead and PRAY our D don't let them back in the game...
IU went for it on 4th and very long.
the need to score coupled with their inability to kick FGs
I was going to go out and get a bottle of the hard stuff...we score here and it's' over..
Pam Ward actually raised a good point there about keeping Denard off the field.
That's really the only way to contain him.... Keep him on the bench and our defense on the field. Other teams will probably take note of how well this has worked for Indiana. Obviously, other coaches in the B10 know our D is awful, but, the awfulnesses, IMO, has been amplified this game b/c they've been kept on the field for so long, plus, it keeps Denard off the field and thus unable to make plays.
FUCK GET A 1st DOWN PLEASE
He doesn't look comfortable right now.
He's not making the right throws, or reading the D well right now, should have took off on 3rd and 5 could have picked up 10+
needs to get us a 2 TD lead.
One more stop..
I think they are gettin the better of the o-line rt now...feeling good...feelin fine.
Is it just me or are the Refs letting a TON of holding calls go?
and rush > 3. Get some real pressure on Chappel.
Now, let's take it in and ice this freakin game
Please go up by two scores!
but if Denard goes 3 and out, let's put in the Tater. We need a spark.
who is our mystery offensive coordinator all of a sudden...GO WITH WHAT WORKS!! CRIPES.
but it might be a good idea to put in Forcier. Robinson looks out of sync with the offense right now.
Denard ain't even hitting open receivers.....
with a 7 point lead today
Something is up with Denard. He's not making the best of reads right now.
What are they doing? I hope Indiana takes less that 7 minutes to score..
looks slower somehow, and has not completed a pass the last two possessions.
FUCK Refs call the holds out there this is REDIC!
our D is frightening. RR's gonna go w/ the 3 man rush even if it costs him his job.
WE CANNOT GET INTO OVERTIME, IF WE DO..WE LOSE.
stop them here.
Great play by Martin there.
FUCKING FIRE GREG ROBINSON AFTER THIS GAME.......
DRIVE EM DOWN THE FIELD DENARD
I'm glad they left us some time
Going to score right now with seconds left...we got the ball last, and that's how we're going to win all year..
Let's get this game sealed up right here right now!
field goal kicker! Wait... oh @#@$
I cant take this....cmon boys...do this!!
Looks like a certain somebody is going to be heading to Best Buy for a new tv tomorrow.
I ran out of beer. Shit.
Not enought time to run down the field
WHAT A CATCH!
Very lucky to have had the ball on the final drive
The ability of Denard to just march down the field is Brady-esque
have you not seen our D play? this isn't over yet..
sometimes in baseball you have to leave your pitcher in to get himself back together and Robinson just needed another chance! What a great drive by Shoelace!
Go Blue. Bring on Sparty!
at this point. No gimme's from here on out....
OH THANK GOD!
Another win that feels real damn close to a loss. I'm very scared entering B10 play (IU has never counted).
Can we cut the bullshit and give Denard the Heisman now? What's scary is that he could have EASILY thrown for 300 if he could have those overthrown passes back.
made my heart stop racing at anytime by just giving us a 2 td lead versus all the 3 and outs.
That was scary. What a relief.
I feel like i just gave birth.
Are there any more BGSUs in our schedule?
I'm happy and sweaty. I screamed so loud on that final drive that a lamp turned on. And it's not one of those clap lamps.
I almost had an anneurism.
Biggest problem I have with our offense is we arent closers that put games out of reach. Clutch as hell, but come on we dont need to do it on the last drive when the 3 drives before that could have done it. Please beat State!
Seven beers, three shots of JD, and another heart attack = Another ho-hum Michigan win. Good God, men.
ho-hum = easy. this was defintely not easy nor sure until the last play of the game.
Sarcasm detector broken? I guess so.
There is no doubt about it. He has this potential and force that surrounds him (I know sounds like Star Wars) to lead him through any situation. He needed only 29 seconds to get 7 points. Even though our defense isn't great right now we have proven we have the ability to come back last minute and put the ball game away. If we can keep this up in the 4th quarter in all of our upcoming games on the schedule then maybe just maybe this could be the year we shock somebody down in Columbus. I was not impressed by OSU at all today against Illinois.
to the Oline and the recievers. He's clearly a threat, but the reciever on that last catch made a hell of a play. Btw, he only wins the heisman if he gets into a bowl. LMAO.
Hemmingway catch that was magnificent. He leaped for a ball that wasn't even thrown that well and still brought it down for a huge completion. Play of the night in that game and it should make the Top 10 on Sportscenter.
hemmingway won't get the mention.
Yep. Absolutely heroic play by Hemingway. He had a couple other epic plays today too.
Hemingway made the difference in us winning the game, IMO.
Hemingway made a terrific grab on a pass that was a tad off.
I mean terrific.
Deep Breath... hold... slowly exhale... repeat... Ok I am good. At least until next week. So this is how it feels to disarm a ticking time bomb.
"The Hurt Locker"
Give our D is really young, but shouldn't we see improvements thru 5 games? even just a little? I'm just not seeing it out there. I see the talent out there on the field but I just feel the talent is not being used to the fullest.
and he threw about 60 passes; and he was a composed senior; and he threw to receivers he's been throwing to for years.
Taylor Lewan is going to be doing some serious freaking sprints this week. Other than that I just feel numb right now. But we won! Hooray!
or self-inflicted stab wounds.
next weeked is a Michigan win in the Big House against Sparty. We need just one win away now from becoming bowl eligible but more importantly is that we have 2 road wins to start off our season. That is huge for Rodriguez looking back to how the season turned out last year. We have proven we can win on the road and that we can come back late and win the game but three things need to seriously shape up before we play Little Brother next weekend.
1. Finish tackles in the secondary. Stop trying to tackle by grabbing the belt or thigh.
2. Man to man coverage Saw way too many open wide receivers in this game.
3. No turnovers. That fumble on the 1 should never of happened and we should of taken a 21-7 lead.
