I agree Stauskas should keep shooting, but at some point, give another guy a chance, especially given Levert's respectable defense.
Michigan vs. Indiana Basketball Open Thread
Should be down 3 right now since they robbed Stauskas.
I'm feeling pretty good about the second half. Just got to tighten up on the defense a little more. The offense is coming around. Get Nik to hit a couple 3's and we got this!
Siiiiickkkkk. We On. Haven't been reading comments but can only imagine. We lookin' good people. Mitch's defense has been awesome!
Well there's one good thing about the second half. We get to shoot at the basket that lets all the 3's in.
I hate that B1G refs make me wonder more about how they are going to call the game in the 2nd half than the adjustments we need to make
Stauskas 1-8 (13%)
Rest of team 13-27 (48%)
Time to find out what kind of poise he has to rebound from that half
If you'd told me we'd shoot like shit, Indiana would be on fire from long range, but we'd be down four at half, I'd have called you an idiot homer. Wow.
How was the Stauskas shot not a 3? Sure looked like it from the replay.
I said when we were down 11 at the 8 minute timeout that we'd weathered the storm and the goal should be to finish the half down by less than 8. That shot by Burke was HUGE. It really seems like we are the better team
Good grief, if Stauskas can hit a shot or two, we'll pull away.
And we're winning by 6-7.
Burke and McGary are carrying us, Stauskas has to make a shot.
Well shit I hope he does say the word "ask" then.
This game has the same vibe as the O$U game, if we can eliminate horrible starts I think we are easily the best in the land.
O$U, come on man. Quit it.
Really impressed by McGary. If everyone brought his effort on the defensive end...
I think Burke and GR3 are doing a fine job themselves
This game has been OSU like, a major difference is we came back sooner before the half.
IU's shooting had to die down at least a little. Nik and Glen need to start scoring to offset the refs letting Zeller to whatever the hell he wants. And pray that IU's 3 point shooting goes down in the second half.
I haven't been posting in this thread...and I won't in the 2nd half either.
But I was literally misty eyed in the pre-game.
Guys, think about the last time Michigan played in a game that matter THIS much?
This is awesome. Everyone in the nation is watching this game and MICHIGAN is playing.
We're more than relevant again...we're elite.
This is so much fun, I miss caring THIS much. I miss being nervous before games.
Thanks to this team, we have that back. GO BLUE!
Awesome, if only you could give this pep talk to the players!
Best post in this thread....so true.
Down 4 not bad after the start we had. GRIII has to get more involved offensively in 2nd half. He only has two shots.
I expected UI to get on fire at some point, but man, I did not expect us o just miss so many open shots and lay-ups. Just make your shots and we're winning.
Isn't looking so bad right now.
Weird how Miami lost to Indiana State and Florida Gulf Coast.
I guess they must be the only good team ever to lose a game they should have won.
Funny how that basketball thing works
Miami looks to be a very, very good team.
Burke's three was huge. I'll take it, only down by four points.
FG% - 40.0% (14-35)
3PT% - 18.2% (2-11)
FT% - 100% (2-2)
FG% - 53.8% (14-26)
3PT% - 50% (5-10)
FT% - 60.0% (3-5)
The three pointers and the rebounding have been huge thus far. Some second-chance shots and the odd three-pointer would be nice adjustments, but we're definitely not out of it. There is no game on Michigan's schedule which is not winnable.
I think Indiana's shooting will cool down in the second half, but they will also stop turning the ball over so much. We need to stop relying on the 3 so much and keep up the good defense that was starting to be played at the end of the half.
Hulls needs a haircut
Awesome way to shut up the Indiana crowd going into halftime Burke!
Michigan started cold, but they rallied and came back FAST! Down 4 at half is really good for how the game went. Indiana was FLAWLESS to start the game 4/4 from three not missing any shots holy shit.
Michigan wins this game by a little because they fixed their mistakes and rallied earlier than after the half. Book it.
IU won't turn it over so often in the second half, but they won't shoot as well either. We won't shoot so poorly. Stauskus has to come off the bagel. Play D, don't foul, we win.
This team always comes out with a run at the beginning of the second half. They already have the momentum here. Get GRIII or Stauskas an open look that goes down, and we'll roll.
In that game we couldn't even GET a shot let alone MAKE a shot.
We played terrible. Turning the ball over, poor execution, etc.
Stop comparing this game because it's not even close.
If we make 3 of the 3's that we missed, this goes from being an "decent" half to a GREAT half.
We played much better, IU was just ridiculous for the first 8 minutes. You can't help that...we have the potential to do the same thing. Hopefully we do in the 2nd half. But we actually played well. Even when we were down 15, we weren't playing that bad. Agaisnt OSU we played awful until halftime.
Good point. I never thought we were playing terribly today - you just kind of shrug your shoulders when a team is shooting like that. Sure, the defense wasn't great but some of those 3s were pretty tightly contested.
Against OSU we seemed completely dead for about 30 minutes and we turned the ball over way more than we ever do. Some of that is credit to their perimeter defenders which I think are the best in the country, but it mainly comes down to focus.
Jalen wants Robinson at the 3 spot on Oladipo.
You have to give credit where it is due . . . the Refs are not taking over the game with homer calls. Good job so far.
You're not aware of basketball rules and regulations then. We all wish it was the case, but in the first 30 seconds there was a foul on Burke and 2 on Stauskas and no call.
Fouls "against" them...
Refs will always make mistakes and miss calls. What they are not doing is getting carried away with the excitement of the crowd . . . calling showtime charges and the like.
With Valentine, on primetime, you always have to be thinking he's going to make it about him. But this has been an AWESOME game.
Michigan just has to make shots. 0-9 from 3 from everyone but Burke? Think if we make 3 of those...
Oh I don't know. They had a hand in IU's early run and they stole a point from Stauskas.
I agree with you there. I was PISSED after Michigan had two fouls in the first 45 seconds, but after that it really did even out.
I was really worried about the refs, but I will give credit where is do, they are calling it fair so far.
Win or lose this game, as long as we learn from it and apply those lessons during March all is well.
...and I think we play IU in the B1G Championship game and in the Final Four or National Championship.
I think these are the best 2 teams in the country. Florida right there.
We already took this class in Columbus. Schools over.
Michigan just needs to hit some of their threes and get some rebounding.
