Michigan vs. Illinois SNOWFLAKES/502 Bad Gateway/POSBANG Thread

Submitted by Mr. Yost on

I'm not sure we played well enough for POSBANG to get it's own thread. So I've combined.

30 minutes of solid basketball. 10 minutes of s*** the bed. Glad we hung on for the W. Survive and advance.

One note..

Midway through the 2nd half, LeVert played BRILLIANT defense. Probably the best position and footwork you've seen all year. It was certainly his best series of the game.

The Illinois player pushes off, creates space and then jumps out of bounds for the dumpoff under the basket and a dunk. No call. Refs +2.

Last possession. LeVert couldn't have played it any worse. Completely out of position - horrible defense.

Illinois misses the floater.

Wow, I think I just aged a few years. That zone was enough to drive me crazy! And I'm just a fan!

What's great about wiggling our way out of this one is, Stauskas could go 10-10 from three tomorrow. Whole new ballgame. Time to re-focus and get it together.

#1 - Beilein...got away with his "weird guys" lineup. Okay, let's go back to the usual rotation

#2 - We played well for 30 minutes, let's not overlook that part completely.

#3 - No one will care about this game if we win the next 2.

#4 - GRIII HAS to stay aggressive. We went south when he stopped driving and attacking.

#5 - Stauskas needs to touch to ball more...when he doesn't touch the ball for 4-5 straight possessions, he ALWAYS jacks up a 3 the next two times he touches the ball. He's a willing passer when he's involved in the offense.

#6 - Horford played awful. Needs to get better.

#7 - Walton and Albrecht need to lead this team better and play more consistent.

#9 - J-Mo can't get into foul trouble like he did today.

#10 - Expect everyone from this point forward to go 2-3 vs. us...we need to learn how to solve it.

would be solved if bball refs could distinguish their asses from their elbows. Game after game, I see Morgan playing sound defense only to get screwed over completely.

Horford was pretty awful today.

Even in foul trouble, we can't be afraid to play defense. We're so foul-averse that we let dudes just charge in. Fuck the NBA for contributing to this style of play.

there are about ten million TV/radio/blog commentators lining up to predict M as upset candidate, no matter who they play.

They will say things like "they're so dependent on the three-pointer" and "the 1-3-1 John Beilein uses is vulnerable" and they will base the sum total of their knowledge on this game, likely one of only two or three they've seen this season.

you are not allowed to shoot these people.

This team has obviously accomplished great things this year, and deserves a ton of respect for that.

However, it is fairly obvious that their chances in the tournament will be based on how they play on the offensive end. One cold game on that end of the floor in the tournament could very well let an inferior team spring the upset. They obviously can't count on the defense to win games in the tournament.

In short, I think their chances in the tournament are highly unpredictable. They are the type of team who could get upset early, or they could go deep like last year's team.  I do think they will be a common pick for people predicting upsets.

Team A is really good on defense?  If they have a bad game on defense, they could lose in the first round

Team B has a big man inside that all commentators love but doesn't really exist anymore in fact he's like the tooth fairy?  If the big man inside like the tooth fairy has a bad game, they could lose in the first round

Team C jumps through rings of fire and rides monkeys on the ceiling fan?  If they have a bad game jumping through rings of fire and riding monkeys on the ceiling fan they could lose in the first round
