Wow. We look like straight up shit.
no, YOU'RE off topic
Wow. We look like straight up shit.
at the game and walking around in the stands is a papa johns mascot. he's wearing a pizza suit.
Pics or it didn't happen.
I see that free throws are still an issue.
What stream you watching? Firstrow has nothing for UM.
21 three pointers attempted out of 36 shots. Sigh.
Stop F'n yelling, sideline girl!!!!!!!!!!
Good lord. I could not agree more. This is horrifying.
We don't look great, but it is sooo early. I don't see us being as good as last year and we are probably overrated right now, but we don't look that bad to me.
People are freaking out about the first game of the year, of course. The shots aren't dropping, but they're getting good shots. By the end of the year I think this team will be better than last year's. But early on it'll be tough to figure out how to run the offense w/out Darius.
I think Burke is a true PG or at least he should change his game to be one. I am shocked he is playing so well this early.
Stu needs to stop picking up his dribble after aimlessly wandering around the 3 pt line... does not look like a PG
Nice camera angle!
Vogrich with what very well may be his only points in the paint this year. Good effort!!! Michigan up 45-32 with 7m left.
Women's BB beat Florida @ Florida 69-66
Why are free throws so bad on this Belein team.
Michigan up 52-32 now
Abby, 10 points is not Naismith trophy material. Come on, man!
Since halftime we've started to look more like a top 25 team. The D has been there all night, but the offense and rebounding didn't make an appearance until the second half.
Yay for halftime adjustments?
Douglass and Smotrycz looked good out there, IMO.
And it's official...59-33, First Game, First Win!!! Hardaway is still pressing a bit but Douglass carried us tonight.
I'll take it, but we definitely still need some rhythm on offense, but the D should keep us in a lot of games
The D is really impressive, and the offense just needs Burke to play point instead of Stu. Anyone one know what he did that made JB sit him?
hopefully just a one time issue
We caused nearly twice as many turnovers than Ferris State. Defense looks great. The offense finally settled in halfway through the second half. Looks like it was just first game jitters. 4 for 8 freethrows-- we're going to want that improved. Don't want a repeat of last years Wisconsin game.
Overall solid win, but lot of improvement needed.
what happened... I went to take care of some business up 8 and I came back and the game was over and we won in a landslide. ?
Sorry if this has been asked/answered already, but since Ferris State isn't D-1, Will this win count on our official record??
I do not believe so. This is an exhibition.
For the record, this is the same Ferris team that lost to Calvin earlier this week.
This one counts and was not an exhibition.
SC Upstate is in Atlantic Sun....Div 1. MSU played Chaminade last year and it indeed did not count as a win in the final W/L record, so not sure if this one will count for you guys.
It will count in the record, but not for RPI purposes.
AFAIK, it counts for the record, but not when looked at for NCAA tournament purposes.
Thanks all for the responses...Looking around the nets I'm still not entirely sure, but I think Duffman is right, it's counted on the record, but does NOT factor in as far as RPI/NCAA tournament selection
sorry I don't know a lot about basketball, i was looking at the box score on yahoo sports and it has burke's stat line as 1-7 fg 0-4 3-pt 0 asst and douglass at 5-9 3-6 and 4 plus 4 reb. so why is everyone saying burke looked good out there and he is a better option than douglass? I didnt watch the game so im guessing he is more athletic and quick? better decision making?
He was smooth with the ball and got a lot of nice open looks, but they simply didn't fall. It's one thing if he's missing because he's settling for bad jumpers, trying to shoot over defenders, that kind of thing. But if he's getting honestly good looks (drove inside the line a little more often than Stu) but they aren't falling, then that's not really bad. Just unlucky.
The assists I'm wondering about too (also didn't see the game), but it's likely that Stu just had a little more experience feeding Morgan in the post that Burke doesn't have yet, but will develop. He only had one TO, so he wasn't making bad decisions. Just not great plays, yet.
I'm having a hard time reconciling your first and second paragraphs. If you didn't see the game, how do you know all that stuff in your first paragraph?
More generally, if someone is up for writing a quick summary of who played well, areas for improvement, etc., I'd love to read it. I didn't catch any of the game.
isn't a point guard.
Burke isn't a better player than Stu right now, but he is better PG. Stu had a great game (scored in double digits). I was praising Burke for his poise and calm more than anything. He didn't have a great game by any means, but he looks like a veteran player which is a nice surprise. Stu can still fill it up though without question.
But does not count towards the tournament. NCAA will not recognize wins over division 2 schools
apparently they produce and shoot the entire broadcast themselves, not bad for students.
The sideline reporter could work on it a bit but let's be honest even the "pros" like Erin Andrews and Bonnie Bernstein don't really contribute much besides T & A.
I have a digital media degree and had done all those jobs when I was a student. I thought they did very well. Courtside girl could've tightened her dialogue a bit, but overall, nice job. Great game too.
He hit a couple of nice runners, but he couldn't find the range from 3.
Burke can pull up and hit that little floater though. Haven't really had that since Horton.
Lots of penetration--Stu looked a lot quicker than the guy I remember--but most of those drives resulted in wide open 3pt attempts as opposed to lobs to the bigs. Morgan had a nice drive from the top of the key. Hadn't seen him do that before.
Seemed like last week they were feeding the post a lot more, but the bigs just weren't handling the passes as well as they should. This week seemed like they didn't bother trying much.
I was wrong about the new tunnel in the corner--it leads right outside to the side of Crisler opposite Stadium Blvd. I think that door might have been propped open towards the end, it got downright chilly in Crisler. Sound seems to be mostly fixed, just cut off small portions of the announcer's communication sporadically. No complaints here.
Still no frisbee dogs *shakes fist at sky*.
Smotrycz had himself a game. Eso Akunne sighting(sorry Eso, I probably butchered that). Not really sure why he played so much of the first half, but he didn't hurt us any. Seems like Zack sat a bunch of the second half, but when they finally put him back in, thats when Michigan put the hammer down and the lead grew to 25. Seems like Michigan gets to work best when Zack and Morgan are in the game...which is weird, because Zack rarely is the one feeding Morgan or vice versa, but the offense just flows better with the two of them on the court. Weird, eh?
It seemed like there were a lot of defensive breakdowns(leading to dunks and layups), but looking at the score...maybe better than my perceptions would indicate.
Yeah, they've got a lot to clean up before Maui.
I'm of the opinion the the Maize unis should only have black shoes/black socks. Blue shoes/white socks with the maize was an eyesore, and I hope it's not a frequent occurrence.
