as to what happen today. CMU is not very good and were 311/2 point underdogs. My take is Michigan is going to have to play a lot better if they are to beat Notre Dame.

I liked seeing the level of young talent that Hoke and staff are bringing in.

There were a lot of mistakes, and hopefully they'll be cleaned up before next week.

Godin seemed to play alot.

Green moves great for his size, though always goes down it seems.

Smith looked decent but its apparent Green is better

Drake Johnson looks better than both

I liked Hayes wheels

Rawls I rhought looked great

Glasgow sure looks the part and played well. Kalis blew an assignment the only time I was watching him

Miller does not look big enough

Gallon may deserve the 1 jersey

Thomas needs to start at safety

Our outside LBs got beat alot to the edge

Gardner and morris looked nervous

Drake Johnson had two carries for a total of 9 yds, one for 7 and the other for 2, before he was hurt. This was enough evidence to say he looked better than Green and Smith to you? Alrighty then.

Gardner looked really calm, just made some bad gunslinger decisions today.

Glasgow had a couple false start penalties.

Shane has a good arm and quick release, obviously a true frosh though.

Green is the best RB on the team. I think he will get plenty of carries next week. I would also like to see them roll Gardner out more and get him out of the pocket. He didn't look that comfortable in there.

I don't know how you reached that conclusion. He was the beneficiary of some of the best blocking the OL managed on the day, misread a few blocks and bounced outside when he should't have, and went down on first contact almost every time.

I think he's going to be a great player when he learns to convert his fantastic size and speed into collegiate-level power running and learns to read and react a little better (no surprise, he's a true freshman after all), but he's not there yet.

Fitz showed me that he's the unquestionable #1 today, and I'm happy about that. Green showed me that he has a ton of potential, and I'm happy about that too. Rawls (!) and Smith both showed that they're no slouches either, so I'd say the RB situation for the next few years is looking pretty good, but anointing Green now is premature.

I think Green gets the ball and goes so the holes are there. He is quick of the get. Fitz hesitates and thus some holes close before he makes a decision. For a 240 lbs kid he is quick.

Not sure how you could watch that game and think that Green is better than Fitz RIGHT NOW.  He might be some day, but there is no way he is better right now.

Green is a bowling ball, and showed a lot of potential just due to his combo of size and speed, but didn't show much in terms of moves, footwork or balance.  He looked relatively easy to trip up.  You've gotta have footwork and balance at this level or people are going to learn to just trip you up.

My random thoughts:

  • We seemed much more physical on the O & D lines
  • Minus a few plays here and there - the D was beyond solid all game long
  • Cam had a hell of a game
  • Frank Clark had a few plays that seemed to support the hype
  • If I had to guess, I think Gardner might have been reading his own press clippings - I do know this - expect him to bounce back big next weekend
  • I believe only one major injury (Drake) - the rest are boo boos - hoping Funch's isn't a lingering issue
  • Gallon is the man -  hoping Gardner finds some oher consistent targets
  • Punt returns were a derp fest for the most part
  • Way too many penalties/turnovers
  • Depth depth depth - every I look I see depth (well maybe not at WR)

Considering how much of the Top 25 (not just the B1G) has struggled week 1. I think we are ahead of the curve.

Looks like Richardson didn't see the field at all according to the player participation list. Anyone know what is going on with him? Yes - I know he doesnt weigh enough and he wasnt mentioned in the cb depth by the coaches the other day. But im a bit surprised he didnt show up even on special teams.

At Pioneer today I met Charles Woodsens dad and Ty Rawls mother. I was was an honor to meet both and had a good talke with Mrs. Rawls. She said most of all her son was looking forward to the degree, Very impressive.

He had some beautiful runs today and Green was impressive as well. Really loving how intense that defense played. Fast, hard and aggressive to the ball making some nice plays taking down their QB and limiting Central's passing to just what was it 120 yards or less? Can't remember. All around ass kicking effort and great win to feel good about going into next week vs ND! GO BLUE

Dymonte sure set the tone with the blocked punt. My early and perhaps biggest takeaway. Typical first game. 3 picks, lots of early penalties, more Devin running than I care to see. But hard to bitch when the final is 59-9. Happy to see redshirts being burned. Game experience now makes them stronger later. And sends a good message to recruits, I would think.

why put Derrick Green in on punt receive coverage? especially up 50. I know he's a freshmen and who would I put out there but I think he is a crucial backup. granted I'm assuming Drake is hurt but I am watching for the first time now.

My big takeaway is that I thought all the RBs looked serviceable, even Rawls. Toussaint looked like 2011 Toussaint, not PDFT. I'm not the only one, I'm also seeing a lot of comments to the effect of the best RB or second best RB today was (pick random RB). All of our backs didn't suddenly turn into LeVeon Bell, so I take this as a sign of a much improved OLine. CMU caveats, but this and the speed to the ball and depth at multiple positions are things that get me very excited about our prospects this year. ND will be a test, but I think we win and are undefeated when Nebraska come to town.
