second round of NIT tip off 8 PM ESPN2
to play football, not to play trumpet
Ugh. Women's BBall on ESPN2 still.
Let's Go Blue!
What are the chances that they don't switch over to the Michigan game?
40 point lead. Higher than usual.
Silly ladies! We have a game to watch!
WHY ARE THEY SHOWING WOMENS BASKETBALL INSTEAD OF MICHIGAN!! I'm pissed.
Its a 40 pt game! Why are we watching this?!?!?!
When I first read this, I thought you were talking about the teams' combined score
And its a 40 point game!!!
men are visual creatures.
Anyone know if this is blacked out on espn3 like last nights game was?
Yes. Just checked on my watchespn app
Ugh. What's the rationale for that? Something to do with the NIT?
I was on the part of the map that was blacked out, but I'm getting the game, so whatever.
I checked ESPN3 earlier today and it didn't say, "subject to blackout." I'm not sure if it has changed.
EDIT: It might have to do with region. I'm not sure.
How much will this loss hurt Kentucky's recruiting?
This game is making my eyes bleed. Or maybe it's that pink eye I have...
What the fuck ESPN. Womens basketball is worse than terrible and one team is winning by 40 with 2 minutes left. Turn this garbage off!!!!
This is just stupid
Shouldn't women's basketball have a running clock once the score goes over 20 with less than 10 minutes to go? This is brutal.
This is interesting.... http://www.mlive.com/spartans/index.ssf/2012/11/michigan_state_qb_andrew...
Hahaha. Hoke wouldn't even say a 10-2 season was a success.
How dare you sell us short!
I just forgot the very cleany played, well executed Sugar Bowl.
Maxwell is an idiot. If he is content with getting to this level then he will never be good. I hate that type of attitude.
I love it, from an opposing teams qb...
The tough season in EL is turning the whole base into a reality show of bickering and self-positioning. It would be fantastic if HBO captured the implosion like the Jets on Hard Knocks.
I like that the comcast info has a description of both UK and Baylors men's teams.
Is it just me or are even the game clocks slower in a women's game?
Stop fouling, idiots!
This is painful to watch Baylor Ladies pulverizing KY, with the scrubs in there too.
Hey espn, what happened to the alternate channel thingy on Directv....Come On Man!!!
Most interuptions in sixty seconds ever = womens basketball
God Damn ESPN we missed 45 seconds.
Vogrich with two big rebounds early.
Update: 4-0 Michigan
Burke and Hardaway with baskets
Im liking this start...
They make me depressed.
I shouldnt have gone there
Yeah, let them keep turning the ball over.
love the defense to start...morgan taking the charge..
I hope that Bruce Pearl doesn't go back into coaching, simply because he's a good commentator.
it appears we are quite good at basketball
The Death Star is at it again!
Get on up, Jordan!
We're getting the calls, but I'm remembering how much I hate how they call charges in college.
Man, Hardaway's blowing by guys. Nice dish to Morgan for the flush.
Wow, very impressive. I don't remember a Michigan team like this because the only time I saw the Fab 5 play I was 3 feet tall (I actually have no idea how tall I was, but I definitely don't remember shit about those guys).
This year with improving his draft stock in mind. Hes gone from being a scorer to a playmaker
So far, it seems like he's really improved his handle, too. He looks much more comfortable with the ball in his hands.
Hit 'em in the mouth!
Product placement in our pregame speeches, nice job Bacari.
Something tells me that a deep run in the tournament will land Bacari Alexander a head coaching job. What a sad, sad day that will be.
Boy, that woulda been nice if Robinson hit that alley-oop.
Like the three but I would have preferred the easy bucket to McGary off the
Pick n roll.
It looked like the passing lane was covered.
The way this team goes up and down is going to confound everything everyone thinks about a Belein team. So far, they're showing they can go fast and slow.
They are going at mcgary as a weakpoint on defense, and just like that he gets a steal and a charge (though im not sure about that being a charge)
Holy shit, McGary.
Nice job, Mitch!
I like that Burke kid. He's special.
I think he's going to work out.
Still to early
and I have never seen Michigan basketball look this good. We've smoked some people in my limited time watching, but not with as much flair as we appear to be doing now. Lotsa talent
This team is fun. Also you guys rooting for or against state? It's a good game, I haven't decided yet, watching state lose is funny but rpi is so big in basketball
As always, fu*k State.
In basketball you want conference teams to do well.
How your conference is perceived is how teams take care of non conference foes.
Bruce Pearl trying to explain how Michigan could be doing better is a joke. Last time that guy saw this team his coaching career was exploding in front of his eyes.
What, last night?
Obviously referring to prior to the NIT Tip Off games.
Stauskas with the nice blow by. He looks great on the offensive end, far more than just a shooter. A little manic defensively, though.
Horford struggling right now
How did he quit on the play? The ball just bounced off his shoe.
Looking good, not great so far. We can play much better, should be up by 15+ right now.
Hey, TH Sr rocking the M hat!
Looks like Prappa the Rappa
"There are a few legends in that group right there" as they show the dance team on camera was priceless.
McGary does a great job finding his guy to block out on the defensive glass. Something not all big guys learn before this level.
Pretty move McGary!
Who kept asking if Beilein could recruit? I keep hearing everyone say that was a question.
Lol at other teams if burke robinson and mcgary are running a fast break
McGary. That was purdy.
The defense looks waaayyyyyy better tonight. On the other hand, the pressure defense by Cleveland State is throwing the young guys off a bit.
Liking what I see...
McGary. Rebounding machine!
Vogrich isn't going to be able to see the floor with a telescope come B1G season if he shoots like that.
He's doing it on purpose to practice offensive rebounding, thats senior leadership
Cmon Vogrich. Throw it down!
Nice series for McGary...
Hope that steal & layup gets Vogrich going.
I second that, he can't hit the broad side of a barn right now
Just how it is supposed to be.
I've always liked watching Michigan play basketball, but it's way more fun when we're good at it.
How tall is the Cleveland State point guard?
For folks like me who can only listen to the audio, how tired does Mitch look? The radio announcers are saying he looks exhausted.
Playing his tail off. Large Novak is definitely an accurate description
The announcers love his effort and enthusiasm, and they are confident he will get the work in and get back into pre-injury shape. That'll be exciting to see!
But he was gassed a little
He was breathing pretty hard coming off the court. He still kept his spacing and rotated defensively while he was in there, though.
McGary has to be close to a double-double already
Will be good simulation for Burke as to the pressure he'll face from Craft/Appling later this season.
Denard! Get well soon!
Amazing the quality of life you have when you don't have SEC fans breathing down your neck.
what's not to love about Michigan, eh?
Yeah, he's got a nice balance of information and entertainment. He's good. Then again, his problem as a coach was never not being entertaining. It was following the rules.
General consensus on here is yes for Pearl, and it's kind of hard not to show us love at this point in the season.
Was that Drob's boo?
Does Denard have a girlfriend????
This is a beating.
who is 44?
Bielfelt. He looks like he can come in and give some good minutes, particularly if we need someone to bang down low.
Max Bielfeldt. He redshirted last year because of a injury.
Good to see Bielfeldt get some time right here.
I almost feel bad at this point.
This is just ridiculous.
Anything less than 100 pts in the half is not acceptable!!
Daughter keeps asking where Novak is!! I told her how he doesn't play for Michigan anymore and her reply was " that makes me sad" my reply "me too" priceless
42-14 at the half. At what point do we see Jack Kennedy?
Oh, so that's how Nick Saban feels when he watches his team play.
Not this past Saturday.
I hope we don't play Texas A&M then.
They scored 14 points in one half. Just feel like that needs to be acknowledged as much as possible.
14 points? That's it? This team is awful.
When is the last time we gave up 14 in a half?
It might have been last Saturday against Northwestern.
/going for the one-liner, seeing if it works.
Should have left out the "might have been."
Michigan up a few touchdowns at the half. 42-14.
Will the coaches put in Bellomy in, to get him some reps, just incase we need him further into the season?
Need a "too soon" voting option
Such a sloppy first half. We should be winning by at least 30+.
Bielfeldt playing well...
The challenge is going to be keeping the team from letting up in the second half. Usually that is where youth shows. We'll see if they can keep it going.
2nd half last night was way better, but then again the game was still quite competitive at the half.
Here's to another 100-pointer.
What the fuck Michigan?!? Only 42 points at halftime!?!? Completely acceptable!!!!!!!
Better than the challenge CSU has in front of it.
Are we intermingling men's and women's basketball now ESPN? Is that what we're doing? Sandwiching women's highlights in between men's games as if they're just as interesting/exciting? I'll allow it, because I have no choice, but I'm not amused.
It might be the only way to get the public to watch those highlights. Clever ESPN, clever.
If I have to watch that gigantic 13 year old boy play basketball one more time this year it will be too soon.
I'm enjoying this game. Talk about a massacre.
You can't predict how good a defense a team is going to play after two games. This teams has so much upside, it's ridiculous. IMHO Glenn Robinson is the most talented player to come to Michigan since Cwebb. (Remember I said talent...)
I hope to gawd this isn't a jinx, but I just picked up two tickets to the semifinals in NYC. Just ban me now, I guess.
I think you're safe...just a hunch.
I have tickets to the championship round. If Michigan makes it to MSG and something unexpected happens there Michigan would still be playing Friday. Fun game so far.
Honestly speechless after the first half cant wait for Big Ten play!!!!
Are the people who are finding ways to be unhappy with this half joking? I can't tell...
Giant panda sighting!!!!!!
OT, but Gary Harris is looking pretty good for State right now.
Bryce Harper in Dick's commercial LOL how appropriate
/I keed because I'm a Nats fan
Gunna be a fun couple weeks at the Garden for M sports between this and the hockey game. Why did I break up with the girl who lived in Midtown?
according to half time studio folks, everything is ginormous.
honestly, if you're going to try and be a real journalist, at least use real words.
The more I see of this team the more I like it. At first the lofty ranking made me wonder if expectations were too high. But this is a very deep and strong team.
I can't wait to see the highlights from this game....and it's only halftime. What an exciting team...WOW is all I can say.
Looks like no rematch with Virgina as Delaware beat them.
Stauskas makes 3's look like lay-ups.
I've said this 6 times in 2 days...but again, the versatility is just going to be a staple.
Clev. St. goes zone, we miss a couple 3's...and bring in Stauskas in who bury's a 3. We just have too many weapons.
Jordan Morgan: athletic
Poor timing for a play breakdown.
How did I miss a shooting foul in the time it took them to show a replay? I don't know whether that is more embarassing for Cleveland State or ESPN
CSU is finally starting to drop these outside shots.
good for B1G I guess
That was a sweet move by Appling on the last possession they showed.
Appling looked pretty clutch tonight at the end. Anyone know if he was a factor in Germany?
He played fine, but it wasn't his best game. 17 pts on 7-17 shooting, 4 assists.
Looks like MSU beat Kansas.
Stauskas for 4.
Pearl is right in his criticism of that possession, though. The ball is not moving fast enough against the trap.
shut up Bruce. Any shot for Stauskaus is a good shot.
Stauskas is raining threes today. This team definitely looks dangerous.
I don't care if it's way too early - Stauskas is my new favorite player.
So potential four point play but I will complain because I am a Michigan fan. We are definitely struggling to break the zone. Which is probably good practice for games that are real.
Stauskas is a deadly sniper but can also go to the rack just as well.
GRIII has struggled with his shot tonight.
We're struggling in the 2nd half (comparatively) both offensively and defensively. Still up 20+ but you'd like to see us maintain the level of focus and intensity and continue to work on things at least until the 8 minute media timeout.
Especially since Clev. St. has come out in a zone press and zone halfcourt defense. Take this time to really work and perfect your game. We look very sloppy in the 2nd half.
Sure we're going to win, we may even win by 35+, but you'd like to see us make the most out of our possessions and get better.
It's a great teaching opportunity here to practice against zone and press in a game situation. Hopefully JB makes sure the players use it that way rather than fun-time-alley-oop-fest which I assume most 18-22 kids would rather turn it into.
I'm glad I didn't get negged with "we're up 30...shutup," but that's exactly what I was trying to say. There are still teaching moments at least until 5 minutes left.
I don't disagree with the content of that post. I would just like a little more positivity...I mean we are up 30. Obviously we are not executing perfectly but you seem unfairly dismissive of the lead.
This is the first time a young team is playing a trap zone, I wouldn't call them struggling a bit a loss of focus and intensity.
GRIII looks mortal today
OMG DENARD SIGHTING
Where's the Squaretree?
Who's the chick? Is that Denard's girlfriend? Luckiest!!!
Against this zone and high pressure, I'd like to see Trey and Spike get some run together. We're going to need 2 ball handlers versus tough full court pressure down the road.
I'd like to see Albrecht-Burke-Hardaway-McGary-Morgan
...just see what that lineup does vs. this pressure.
That's a really small backcourt to run out, though. I'm less concerned after seeing THJ's improvement as a ball handler.
Because that's exactly what Coach B went to.
Yeah, but I just don't know if you can play that backcourt against a better team for any extended period of time.
You put in shooters against a zone trap, I think putting in Hardaway and Stauskus is the right call. You aren't supposed to dribble through a zone, you pass and cut until you find an open shot.
That's why I said pressure over and over. Not just against a zone.
Man to man pressure is different then zone pressure. The whole reason for zone pressure is to try to get the opponent to dribble into a trap, which is why I don't agree with the reasoning of we need our best dribblers out there, I think it's more important to have shooters who will be open when someone kicks out from a trap. If they're pressing in man, I agree 100% you want dribblers. I'm not saying you're wrong or I'm right, that's just my basketball 2 cents.
Think Pearl may have lost a little favor unless he's predicting the future for this weekend.
Hmmm... Don't think Pat will like that very much.
Writer of 'I love you, Denard'
Couldn't look any less excited to be there.
Careful with that arm dancing, Denard.
To see him moving them at all. The fists make me hopeful that he is doing better!
Day to day.
I am the only one reading too much into his presence? I would be shocked if he plays Saturday (and disappointed as it will be my first time there since '10). I mean to be @ Crisler during game week seems like a waste of potential prep time. Just me?
It is against Iowa, and it is late on a Tuesday. Do you think they prep 24-7? does Coach Hoke make them wear their Ipods with subliminal gameplan recordings on them when they go to sleep?
Denard has appeared at a LOT of BBall games over the years, as have many of the players.
I love that block call against Albrecht. The more they do to cut out that kind of flopping, the better.
Yeah the radio announcers weren't too happy about that call....
Was he in the restricted area?
No, he just flopped on marginal contact.
Over/Under Denard getting more close up facetime than points Michigan scores vs. Ohio (football) this year.
That's not how over/under works...
It just depends on how many points you think Michigan will score.
I think we'll score 27 points...so I'll take the OVER on apperances by Denard at basketball games this season.
I know how it works.
I thought you were talking about just at this game.
CSU got destroyed in the first half and improved dramatically in the second half. Which is apparenly how fatigue works in Bruce-Pearl-Land where tiredness advances like Benjamin Button.
They misses "gimmes" in the first half. We also came out way too complacent.
Lastly, we outscored them 30-2 in the paint at halftime. They went to a zone and we started shooting over it. Thus more runouts for CSU.
Hardaway's so much better defensively than last year. He just had a great help and recover on the last possession. You can't do that unless you're moving your feet and are positioned exactly where you need to be on the floor.
A little self-evaluation and effort will do that.
He's also a million times better on the boards.
We played after them...granted their game went to OT but we had a few hours less of rest and all of our players had to get up and go to class today...I don't buy the fatigue argument.
We didn't have to travel, though. But there's a lot more going on here than fatigue.
I mean cleveland state is less than 3 hours away from ann arbor...is that travel really that impactful on their ability to play basketball? It's not like they flew across the country on a red eye flight.
For the longest time one of michigans weaknesses was in bounds plays as they barely had them. Been a strength tonight for sure
DAT CROWD FAKE
LOL they counted down with 11 seconds still on the clock and he fell for it
Was amazing in the first half and a bit less so in the second. It almost feels like he's hesitating on inside moves. The whole team is sloppier in the second, but a lot of it seems to be related to trying different offensive concepts, so it's hard to be that upset.
Get these guys out and get guys in that will simply run some offense and execute. Not that they're going to develop bad habits. But it's just ugly basketball. Plus it hurts their stats, and that's always important.
Guys are looking bored. Get the subs in...
I think he just wanted to get the subs in.
Pearl talking about a teaching moment...lol, not when 4 guys are sitting at the scorers table.
I absolutely love that Tim hard away is the first guy off the bench for the backups. JB has really created a great team atmosphere.
He's definitely become a leader. I'll be honest, he was a selfish player last year. But this year it's been a 180, he clearly doesn't care about the NBA, stats, or any indiv. recognition.
He's definitely become a leader. I'll be honest, he was a selfish player last year. But this year it's been a 180, he clearly doesn't care about the NBA, stats, or any indiv. recognition.
It's okay to say something negative about players guys, especially when they've said it about themselves.
Do we take anything from the lack of execution and turnovers when CSU went zone and brought up the pressure?
It was an issue last year that we didn't have any help for Burke. In my eyes, no panic, but definitely need to work on it.
So many BAD, I mean TERRIBLE shots in the 2nd half.
I don't know much about basketball, but is it possible that a good team loses interest when they're playing a team that doesn't challenge them? It just seems like in such a fast-paced game, if you don't have good push back from the other team, it would be easy to get complacent.
But we weren't good vs. pressure last year, whether it was zone or man pressure. When teams took the ball out of Burke's hands --- we couldn't really function.
IMO we've still got to get better with this. Also, I think using 2 PGs is a good idea when Burke can really shoot the ball. This way if Burke has to give it up, Spike can start the offense and Burke just plays the 2.
You wouldn't do this all the time, but CSU --- like most teams, go small against us when trying to pressure.
I think they just have to remember to move and to keep the ball moving. There was a bit too much ball stopping against the zone trap and that allowed the zone to get set, rather than forcing it to adjust.
How many more games will Vogrich start?
I actually think quite a few more because I think coach b likes having the scoring punch of stauskas coming off the bench to strengthen that unit's scoring punch.
Whether he starts or not, I think minutes is the important number.
I think he'll get 8-10 miunutes a game no matter if he starts. I could see him playing until the first media timeout each half.
It'll depend on Stauskas getting better on the defensive end too, he looks below average tonight and Vogrich's experience showed, he was in help side and grabbed boards. Stauskas right now is offense only. That should/will change as the season goes along and you'll see him minutes go up and Vongrich's minutes come down.
I agree. The disappearance of the shooting stroke of the guy who was pretty universally regarded as the best shooter in the nation when he came out of high school is a mystery, but right now, he's reliable on defense, gets some steals and tough rebounds, and is generally a calming presence. At this point, it's probably too much to hope that he rediscovers his shooting stroke to be a 45% 3-point guy, but he'll serve a very useful role on this team.
Of a great practice player because in game his J has been broke for 4 years
I hereby proclaim Mitch McGary "King of the Chest Pass." Dude has superhuman wrists and forearms. Those passes are on frozen ropes with no effort.
When he gets a better feel for the college game, he's going to be VERY good. I see him learning a lot this year. Next year I think he'll come into his own. And his Junior year, that's when I think he becomes an NBA first round type player that's not just drafted off potential.
He's got to develop some post moves, he's got to catch those passes cleaner downlow. Right now he looks like he's still learning how to play in his body and he's still a little raw. Give him a couple years of natural progression and we've got a Hansbrough/Sullinger type player on our hands.
Hail to the Victors!
It is interesting looking at the Fab Five's first season compared to this team so far. For the cupcake portion of the schedule this team may be outperforming the Fab Five's first year.
This is adding five freshmen who aren't quite as heralded as the Fab Five to a nearly intact Big Ten Champion squad. The Fan Five were joining an incredibly bare cupboard when they arrived.
we are averaging a cool 35 point margin of victory... today being our closest game yet at 30. If you want to include exhibitions, that number moves to 33.8. There is only one thing we can conclude from this evidence. We play down to our competition. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE.
I would assume our talented veterans never imagined a team would play a box and one on Stauskas in game three. This season is going to be fun.
But told ya Butterfield. Cleveland State is not good at all and Michigan blew them out of the water like a top 5 team should do.
The first real test will be Pittsburgh. They're not as good as they used to be but still a solid team.
Best quote of the night from the color guy tonight: (talking about Denard Robinson) "preparing for the Hawkeyes this weekend. I believe if they win they'll win the Big Ten Title." If only...
MOTHER OF GOD, Kansas State beat Alabama Huntsville by 61 points, 87-26
LOL Alabama Huntsville's highest scorer had 4 points. One dude was 2-12 for FG% and 0-9 3Pt%.
Does Kansas State have good defense?
OT a bit. What's happened to the quality of this tournament? Scanning the list of participants, it seems a far cry from some of the fields I recall.
You have this "thing" in Atlanta with KU, UK, Duke and MSU...right there are 4 premier teams.
You have the Battle at Atlantis Tournament in the Bahamas - have you seen that field?
So there are just more places to play.
The NCAA took over running it I believe. Since then the quality has dropped.
