Michigan vs. Alabama Prediction Thread

Submitted by WestSider on

After reading so many Michigan fans' opinions about what the Wolverines have to accomplish to win this game, I am interested in hearing what your predictions are for the final score. Also, what will be the most notable aspects of the game as you imagine looking back on it?

Michigan 26, Alabama 24

Norfleet and/or Hayes makes significant contribution(s). Saban's face turns a shade of red never before identified.

I just don't see how our D-line can hold agains their O-Line. Combined with the fact that they play exactly the type of defense that we struggled greatly against last year--but with the best talent we've seen--and I have a hard time rationally seeing more than this from us. Sigh.

If your linebackers and safeties are making your tackles on Alabama running backs you're in big trouble.  By the time the back gets to them, its been 3-4+ yards already.  That's a losing battle.

We also find out that Alabama isn't utterly bulletproof year after year.  Remember Nebraska of the late 90's?  The assumption was that WE DON'T REBUILD, WE RELOAD, forever and ever, amen and that they'd contend for the MNC in perpetuity. But nobody stays gold forever, Pony Boy.

We also get some crazy special teams bounces.

It's our night.

And Bama, unlike Nebraska of that time, has legit NFL talent everywhere. Nebraska never had defenses in that era even close to the talent level Bama has. Doesn't mean we can't win (though I don't see it) but it does mean there's zero chance of putting up 40

At first I was like....yikes, that defense...Bama to cover. Then I was like...lotta starters gone...how much better will this Bama D be than the OSU one Denard shredded last year? Then I was like...yeah, a lot better. 31-24 Bama wins :(

1. Michigan 27 Alabama 24.

2. Worst case scenario: Alabama 41 Michigan 27

Their OL with our DL does have me very nervous. I agree completely with MrVociferous

We'll finally see the unleashing of some screens and latterals that will put our slots in play more, as sort of pseudo-backs. I see Hayes, Gallon and Dileo with inflated numbers and a <7 point win.

I was home in Michigan earlier this week and saw this..  WTF?  On the other hand, the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich wasn't bad.

Michigan 31-13..   OK, I admit it..  I like prime numbers and palindromes..

My prediction is that it is a one score game going into the 4th quarter.  I refuse to speculate what happens in the 4th.

They will lead for pretty much the whole game and rush for about 200 yards. We'll score one TD on a bust by one of their new DB starters and another in the last few minutes when they're in prevent mode.

Wolverine Toughnes nurtured under Coach Hoke shows up in a way no one believed possible afterjust  two years. Campbell and Barnum prove they are more than worthy starters.

than expected.  Michigan wins 28-24 and stops a last minute drive by Alabama on a Kovacs INT.

EDIT: I am not drunk, high, or otherwise impaired.  Perhaps a bit dumb?

Bama 41 M 10.

24-0 at the half. Bama scores on their first 2nd half possession and then rests their starters.

Denard throws 3 picks, fumbles once and leaves with an injury. He is a game-time decision for Air Force.

Dave Brandon immediately rounds out the 2014 schedule with Miami (NTM) and Vanderbilt.

Michigan wins its next five games by an average of 13 points.

I really want to be wrong, but Alabama just looks too tough.  Alabama 24, Michigan 14.

I think the best chance here is if V Smith finds a way to consistently get "lost" among all of the big guys, and makes it to the second level a lot.  Alabama is not going to let Denard beat them with his feet, so we're going to see just how improved he is at passing the ball.

I'm not much for "moral victories," but keeping it in single digits would qualify as one.

Denard will keep things interesting and make a big play or two. But not having Fitz puts even more pressure on him as the focal point of the offense. Unless Borges can somehow consistently get him to the outside....

Their biggest strength is going against our biggest weakness. Barring injuries to their line, or BWC, Black, Washington and Roh all just somehow playing absolute lights out football and bringing the O-Line to a draw, this is a mismatch nightmare.

For us to win this game, there are so many things that all have to go right: phenomenal D-Line play, Denard playing the best game of his career, Rawls stepping up big time, Gardner proving to be a weapon as a wideout, and a few lucky bounces/Bama special teams errors. Too many things have to go right.

The good news in all of this, though, is Michigan should play this game like there's no pressure when, in reality, there shouldn't be much. Most people aren't giving them a chance. This game does nothing to hurt Michigan's chances of a Big Ten title. For Michigan, there is no shame in losing to Alabama unless its a blowout. Sparty fans would do well to not poke fun if we lose (cough Capital One Bowl cough).

Alabama should be holding all the pressure not to lose to a Big Ten team. They don't care about conference titles. If they lose tomorrow, this severely hurts their case for a national title. If there is one thing that heavily plays into our favor tomorrow, it should be the pressure factor.

I guess I'll post this question here since the "Fitz suspended" thread got deleted for some reason

But Desmond Howard just said on Gameday that Rawls was penciled in as the starter at the beginning of last season before he got hurt. I don't recall this being the case, and thought Smith was our starter. Is Des right? Can anyone confirm?

Like Brian said, let's try not to Woolfork this.

My prediction? Bama by 7-10. Probably something lower scoring (I don't know about their passing offense, right now), like 24-17.
