Michigan vs. Alabama Prediction Thread

Submitted by WestSider on

After reading so many Michigan fans' opinions about what the Wolverines have to accomplish to win this game, I am interested in hearing what your predictions are for the final score. Also, what will be the most notable aspects of the game as you imagine looking back on it?

Michigan 26, Alabama 24

Norfleet and/or Hayes makes significant contribution(s). Saban's face turns a shade of red never before identified.

GO BLUE!

When your team pulls off a huge upset against apparently insurmountable odds, such as when we beat OSU in '69, Miracle on Ice, or when the Pistons beat the Lakers in 5 in 2004.  Here's to hoping we get some of that this weekend.

But I'm just not seeing it.  Maybe Denard will be a much improved passer, maybe Devin will be a revelation at WR, maybe our D-line surprises and holds their own, maybe Rawls breaks out...but it seems like we really need all or at least most of those things to happen.  Short of such a perfect storm, Team Deadly beats Team Very Good.

Alabama 31, Michigan 17

In another few years this game will be a toss-up, but not tomorrow night.

Someone else talked about having one, but I also had a dream last night about watching this game. It inolved a 28-27 Michigan win - Alabama was up 27-21 going into the 4th quarter, but a surgical drive that exploits Alabama's secondary gets us within earshot of the end zone, and on 3rd and goal, Denard rushes one in. Throughout the game, in my dream, the passing game was getting it done thanks to Dilithium.

That being said, my conscious mind wrote down 30-24 Alabama - we stay competitive and within earshot the entire game, perhaps even leading at one point, but we get stalled late by the Alabama defense. I prefer my subconscious personally.

There are a lot of different me's.  The rational me says Bama by 10-14, with the score staying close partly because the game will be so run heavy.  The terrified me says Bama by 28-42, with the Fitz loss huge and Alabama's o-line haunting my dreams for the next few weeks.  The optimist me says Michigan by 3-4 because we're catching them at the right time and I have ridiculous faith in our coaching staff.

So... uh... Bama by 10-14.

Well when I thought Fitz might play I was leaning 21-17 UM but now I've pretty much resigned myself to something ugly like 31-17 'Bama (or worse).

Alabama 30

Michigan 21

We score with ~4 minutes left to pull within a score but 'Bama eats the clock en route to a field goal with under a minute left.

Bama 31 UM 10

I wonder if anyone will join me in cursing Brandon for scheduling this game if my prediction for the score comes true? I fear that this is going to be a very deflating experience for the players and the fans.

Nick may know Big Ten Football however the Tide cannot handle running quarterbacks as demonstrated by Cam Newton. Run ur heart out Denard! Michigan WINS! go blue.

We're probably down like 17-7 at the half, game ends 34-14, something like that. And I'm still proud of this team and the way we're doing things.

Vincent Smith turns into Mike Hart, but smaller.
UM 20 - Bama 17

Denard's Dilithium hits critical mass
UM 42 - Bama 35

Lol wut Dline?
Bama 35 - UM 10

Freak Thunderstorm
UM 3 - Bama 2

I don't think Bama covers the spread, unless Saban channels his inner sparty UM hatred and goes pedal to metal with great success. I know Bama/Saban are a tad evil but I think Bama probably made him a better person.  /MSU hate?  idk.

but we need to get some help from Bama.  They need to get off to a slow start on offense to help our defense.  They need to turn the ball over and we need to get points off of those turnovers.  No turnovers for Michigan.  Alabama shows up with their "A" game, then Denard needs to go into full Dilithium mode.

Say 33-13 bad guys...like someone already stated, in a couple of years we will hang/beat teams like this, not enough depth up front to handle the likes of Alabama.....we will be fine this season though.

No prediction but to be the best you have to play the best. For all the unknowns about Michigan though Alabama has a lot too. Let's just roll the side and let them fall where they may. Play hard men.

I think we keep it within reach until the fourth when their OL finally wears our defense down and a couple big plays seal it for AL. I think AL loads up the box and we get stuffed on the run but find decent success through the air as a result of Denard developing within Borges's passing system, which bodes well for the rest of the season.

28-17 Alabama

As much as I want to predict a Michigan victory, I just can't do it. I do think it will be close, and I won't be SHOCKED to see it happen, but if I had to place my life savings on one team to win...

I think the key to the game is Denard playing like Rich Rod is calling the plays. If he makes two reads and runs and can avoid big hits, we have a pretty good chance to win the game. We also have a decent chance of seeing the 2nd/3rd string QB's in this scenario though, so pick your poison. I don't think we will get much of a rushing game established, so the load the offense will be on Denard's shoulders. Not a bad place for it to be, in my opinion.

I don't believe our defense is getting enough credit, and they are being overlooked quite a bit. I would be shocked if either team scores more than 24 points.
