...both scare me more than ND and MSU.
"What (Michigan coaches) told me is that they're focusing on point guards right now, but if anything opens up, they'll definitely come back on and recruit me as hard as they were," said Towns
...both scare me more than ND and MSU.
Anybody up for headlining TWIS? Yeah, me neither
On how many times Taylor was targeted the last two games? Seems like very completion is to his guy
Fitz and maybe Chesson the only bright spots today
4 Gardner turnovers. Hot and cold Toussaint. Lewan injury. Wile punted like garbage. Weak 4th and 1 punt. 3 missed FG combined between the teams. Interior line mostly getting blown to little bits. No backups. Strobel didn't fucking get to play because he was injured. Spiritually another Horror, even if we "won" the ballgame.
Good: Chesson catch/TD, did not lose the game on the scoreboard.
It sure doesn't feel like a win, does it?
It's more like we somehow managed not to lose.
They just didn't seem ready and definitely didn't execute. Michigan played it's worst game since Toledo today.
The offense had mid-level MAC talent. The talent level on this team is far higher although we are still paying the price for some weak/depleted recruiting classes.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
This effort was unacceptable - yes, I said it.
The OL and DL would've been beat up by my local peewee football squad today.
The pro scouts won't care how he played against Akron when he improves his decision-making.
The O-line & D-line was outplayed by ND. We won that game largely due to Devin.
Akron is actually a good team. They were losing all those games on purpose and saving everything for Michigan.
"How can I increase future ticket prices against MAC doormats...Hmmmnnnn"
Watching them today. OL dominated and Gardner has a TO in 24 straight games. How many multiple TO's?
It stinks. It's over. We will forget about it in three weeks, as long as the team gets things together and starts playing well.
I think it's a massive let-down game and little more. Lousy week of practice, vanilla gameplan, noon start.
I hope so.
Yeah I know he's already used this but it's SOOO appropriate.
Mattison's bend dont break is getting old. If you cannot pressure with 4 you have to take risks. This is Akron and they dominated 2nd half on offense. How many blitzes did he bring? 3? Yes it exposes your back but so does a QB with 8 seconds to throw. You dont give Manning or Brady all that time because even with 7 playing passing defense they find holes. This philosophy doesnt work for this defense who does not have ability to create a pass rush. Yes Nebraska has no defense but this defensive philosophy is going to cost 50+ against that offense. OSU too. p.s. Frank Clark = most overhyped player in past 5 years. Nothing today against a MAC level OL.
But against Akron...you gotta play.
Mattison coached his worst game at Michigan. It's like everyone knew what Michigan was going to do and adjusted except him.
We either put 7 on the line and blitzed them all or we played a 2-deep shell and rushed 4.
why couldn't we disguise anything?
I think the idea is that against Akron, you shouldn't need a complicated gameplan to win. You save the good blitzes, stunts etc. for the big boys.
The D looked fine in the first half. If our offense had put this game to bed in the first half like it should, and could have, there wouldn't be much Mattison angst.
He has blitzed more as the game went on the last two games.
I think by now we know what we have on the DL, and its not much. I hope, expect to see more pressure going forward via blitz. Sending 5 or 6.
It also seems that when we do blitz, the timing is atrocious. Either showing too early and letting the offense audible or so late as to be worthless (the Wilson blitz from FS comes to mind).
I think Clark out on too much weight which has hurt his speed. plus he needs a counter move
instead of Mattison. He's done wonders for Michigan's D. I'll give him a few games to get this corrected.
They had better blow out UConn and Minny, because I really want to believe this game was a fluke.
at least nobody saw that, right? Tell me no one else watched that game...
Neb getting asswhipped is not a silver lining b/c BIG TEHNNNNN!!!
Borges did his best Brian Kelly impersonation, abandoning the run
DL is opposition invariant: not a good sign
Looked like lots of issues up front - gonna be a long season if we can't get the run game going against Akron.
Also still no pressure from the DL and thus a lot of coverage issues in the secondary. Hopefully this is just hangover from the ND game.
Devin definitely isn't going to the NFL after this year. Wooot
I feel bad for Akron - they totally deserved to win this stinkfest.
But in all seriousness, I don't think I've seen a UM team just so disinterested and totally unfocused. I'm hoping its a wake up call and that starts with the Captains/Seniors. Could be a very long season or one to remember - only time will tell.
The offensive line is putrid. Gardner still makes horrible decisions. The defensive line cannot give pressure. Simply put, we won because of sheer luck.
Fortunately that's now just a teachable moment, a portion of the Big Ten TWIS, and a drop in the meaningless polls, instead of Horror II: The Horribler Horror.
Hopefully it means the coaching staff gets the team to take everyone as seriously as Notre Dame. Almost makes me root for ND to just blow the crap out of Purdue to make us feel better about last week.
Horror III, everyone forgets Toledo in 2008 (which was the worst Toledo team in 20 years) was II. Toledo will go down as the first M A C team ever to beat Michigan
I blame donuts
This has to be a preperation/readiness/emotional hangover issue right? Remember, this team beat ND. I'm just trying to reconcile the difference between this Saturday and last, but I'm having a very hard time doing it.
Crowd - terrible
student section - terrible
O Line - terrible
D Line - terrible
Garder - terrible
the Mr. Spots I had - terrible
everything - terrible
is over priced and not that good. Walk around back and get yourself some Ali Baba's
I don't love the sandwiches but the wings are phenomenal
I don't even remember what it was like to be happy.
Every good team has a bad game now and again. Towson, an FCS team, took LSU, a top-10 FCS team, to the wire in Death Valley last year. Bad games suck, but they happen. We've seen what this team is capable of when it's on it's game.
We've got a lot of crap we need to clean up on, but a win is a win. Shake it off, accept the fact that you played a bad game, and move on to next week.
Sorry, meant top-10 SEC team. My head is still spinning right now.
Too many donuts?
now we all know how Sparty has felt the past couple of weeks. Dear Sparties: I'm Sorry. I was mean. That was wrong. You have a very good defense. Can we borrow it?
Jesse Palmer was "disappointed" in the play of Devin Gardner.
Yeah, no shit sherlock.
Um. No. That is all.
around for 2007 home opener. Akron came to play obviously Michigan didn't.
You have got to be kidding me. Hoke should have built a time machine and aged his players so they had more experience?
You're a troll and a stupid one at that.
Yes, the line has regressed since Hoke's first year. That happens when the Rimington winner graduates and then the next year your entire interior line graduates.
What the fuck did you expect?!
ok, and parts are getting better. If we attribute that to him then it all evens out.
Also, we have a young team and these types of games happen. Stop the hysterics
For better or worse you have to judge Hoke in 2015 not 2013. His recruiting is top notch, his family atmosphere stuff is top notch, his Michigan man stuff is top notch. Until he has his players in, and in as upperclassmen it is too soon to judge. Rich Rod defenders will say he was judged in year 3 but unless we get blown out by 40 (?) in our bowl game by the 5th best SEC team it is a different situation. 2014 is going to be tough on offense as all our top line skill players leave except Devin (I assume not Devin), along with the tackles. So it will be an extremely young offense in 2014 and you need to live on that defense. Which means he DL has to take leaps and bounds in the next 11 months. Then in 2015 you have Shane + depth everywhere and Hoke's depth. If they do just another 9-3 or 8-4 season in 2015 there will be major questions about Hoke. But now? Too soon.
