Michigan v. Iowa 2009 on BTN right now

Submitted by SwordDancer710 on

BTN's showing the 2009 Michigan v. Iowa game right now. A loss, yes, but the offense still showed signs of brilliance (and a few turnovers), putting up the most points on Iowa's defense the entire year.

This was B. Graham's best game last year as well. He was in the backfield almost every play.

Especially when you consider than BG lined up against a high first round pick (Bryan Bulaga) and pretty much manhandled him.

I feel like had we pulled this one off, the year would have been so much different. Though i guess you can say that about any game we lost (except maybe Penn State, i never really felt like we were in that one to begin with)

Reminds me of a game from 1995.  We moved the ball so well on the ground, but our passing game did us in.  Ugh.  Thank goodness we can actually start experienced players at QB next season.

such a promising start to this game.  Then came the turnovers and the secondary never stopped them on 3rd down.  We still had some hope at this part of the season.  Little did we know we would lose the rest of the Big 10 schedule.

That won't happen this year!!!!

Greg Mathews muffing that punt return late in the 3rd Q really took the wind from our sails.

We had all the momentum before that.

I forget just how close we stayed with Iowa in this game. The 30-28 final score is no aberration. One or two plays was really the difference.

You can definitely tell that Tate is not in the same physical state as ND/WMU in this game.  There is no crispness to his passes at all.

Not exactly a secret that they killed us this game. Once this team learns how to take care of the football we'll be a hard team to beat...even w/ a shaky defense.

I was visiting a friend in Chicago on this weekend. He took me to a bar called Duffy's to watch the game. A DJ would play loudly during every commercial break. The crowd only seemed to half care about what was going on in the game. Immediately after the clock hit 0:00, the DJ cranked up the music and everybody started dancing.

Do not ever watch a Michigan football game at Duffy's.

I just read through the play-by-play at ESPN and was reminded of how close we were to winning this one. Despite the turnovers - we were at our 38 yard line at 2nd and 5 with one minute to go and a field goal would have won it. The interception then can be ascribed to true freshman QB and I am confident that with the QB maturity that we have now - we would have won it. Although - Minor was effective in that game - and it is difficult to project whether one of our current RBs will rise to challenge as well as Minor did.

Iowa is coming to Ann Arbor this year. I think, in balance, we are better than last year while they would, at best, be as good as last year - so chances are that we will avenge last year's heartbreak.

To me running back is going to be the most exciting position to watch next year. Consensus generally holds that QB play should be improved if not quite up to excellent yet, but running back is going to be really interesting to see play out. We have so many talented, unproven young players that are going to be thrust into the mix--Cox, Shaw, Smith, Toussaint, Hopkins (maybe more?). Even in the absolute worse case scenario, where none separates himself from the pack, we have the ability to ninja opposing defenses with our menagerie of various running back styles.

I have so much trouble watching games we have lost twice. It's getting spit on twice. Hopefully Stanzi gives us some free gifts. He likes to hand them out it seems.
