Michigan trivia for a slow day (now with answers)

Submitted by Erik_in_Dayton on

Below is Michigan sports trivia.  The Code of Hammurabi prohibits you from cheating and says that you are to lose an earlobe if you violate this prohibition.  I'll post answers around 5:30.  I should warn you that one of the questions is a trick question.

1.)    Which of the following players averaged the most yards per punt in his Michigan career?

a.)    Blake O’Neill  b.) Will Hagerup   c.) Zoltan Mesko   d.) Tate Forcier

2.)    Gerald Ford replaced Richard Nixon as president.  Whom did he replace as Vice President? (this question is inspired by current events but is in no way an endorsement of a political party or of being vice president) Spiro Agnew

3.)    Which of the following players led the MBB 1989 national championship team in rebounds per game?

a.) Glen Rice  b.)  Loy Vaught  c.) Terry Mills  d.) Rumeal Robinsion  e.) Sean Higgins

4.)    What Michigan running back gained 128 yards against Ohio State in 1990 and coached Michigan safety Jarrod Wilson in high school? Ricky Powers

5.)     Michigan women’s basketball team last made the NCAA Tournament in what year?

a.) 1999 b.) 2004  c.) 2009  d.) 2013  e.) they have never made the Tournament

6.)    Michigan’s softball team last failed to win the Big Ten regular season championship in what year?

a.) 2002  b.) 2007  c.) 2011  d.) 2014  e.) they have won it every year

7.)    Who started at quarterback for Bo’s last Rose Bowl winning team?  EDIT: to be clear, I'm looking for the QB who started in the Rose Bowl.  Demetrius Brown

8.)    Who were the last two left-handed quarterbacks to start for Michigan?

Demetrius Brown and Shane Morris (it was a Demetrius Brown kind of day)

9.)    Sierra Romero won Big Ten Player of the Year how many times?

Three

10.)    Which MBB player has the most triple-doubles in Michigan history?

a.) Gary Grant  b.) Darius Morris c.) Manny Harris  d.) Derrick Walton  e.) Caris LeVert

This was the trick question.  All of them had one.

The board collectively got every answer, and multiple people got the trick question.

Let's try without any googling:

1.)    Which of the following players averaged the most yards per punt in his Michigan career?

Although I'm tempted to take Tate because his punt(s) had no returners back and got to roll

After Leach I think Demetrius Brown and Steve Smith were the only lefties other than Clayton and Shane. Ford replaced Nelson Rockefeller. Vaught was a rebounding machine. Elvis started a few games that year so I'll go with him. Too tired to guess further.

Pretty sure Henson was right-handed.

I can still remember that across-the-body throw to Terrell while Danielson was frantically masturbating over Henson's arm (with good reason).

I still believe if Henson had come back, he'd have been an at least adequate NFL player with more millions than he has currently. Greatest arm I've ever personally seen.

Here's a fun fact regarding #2 - you can rearrange the letters in Spiro Agnew to spell "Grow A Penis", which I firest realized when reading Dave Barry's take on American history over 20 years ago, and that for me made Agnew the most amusing VP ever for name value.

3) Loy Vaught

4) Ricky Powers

5) 2009

6) 2011

7) Grbac

8) Morris, Brown (I think Brown was a lefty)

9) Three

10) Part of me wants to say Darius Morris, but I think all these guys have at least one.

Why do people think he was left handed? He was in no way, ever, never left handed. Clayton Richard was left handed. Shane Morris left handed. Rick Leach left handed. But definitely not Drew Henson. He could throw a 98 MPH fastball, however.

Bo's last Rose Bowl winning team was the 1988 squad.  Michael Taylor won the starting QB job and started until he was injured late in the season.  Demetrius Brown stepped in as the backup in wins over Ohio State and the 22-14 Rose Bowl win over USC.  Without Googling, I'm not sure when Michael Taylor was injured, but Brown threw the game winning pass to Kolesar at OSU and played the whole Rose Bowl game.
