I hate uniformz as much as anyone, but it's not like Nike doesn't make some disgusting pro combat garbage. And their white-on-white-on-white-on-white in this year's basketball tournament was among the ugliest things I've ever seen: way worse than the Adidas's swim trunks. We had fewer uniformzzz when we had Nike because we had Nike 8 years ago. I think we are confusing causation and correlation.

It's up to the school. They can offer as many pro combat ultra XXS pure speed awesomepossum jerseys as they want. It's up to the school to say "nah, we'll stick to the classic. Thanks." Our AD is already on record as saying we have an identity. We're not Oregon. We don't need a gimmick. I'm sure we'll see very slight alts from here on out but this AD & HC will never put our FB team in any of that bumblebee level B.S. Leave that to Oregon, osu & teams without the most iconic unis in sports. It's why psu will never go crazy, too. Adding names was a huge change for them b/c the blue/white is iconic. When HS teams have been copying your uni all across the country in your color & every other color combo you know you've got it right. Schools across the nation wear winged helmets & copy the psu uni. I can promise everyone that outlandish shit is over under this regime. Now it's about recruiting & quality of product.

Nike with the split block M fail on that welcome banner. Not that it really matters to me because I prefer Nike, just found it a poor attention to detail.

If you don't understand why apparel matters then I'm guessing you are close to 40 or older. You are now an old blue/get off my lawn alum/fan. Congrats. Nike is a huge deal for us who know how to use smart phones and know what Twitter and Instagram are.

I'm 42.  I don't get why these damn kids go cuckoo over the ugliest crap these companies put out.  I wonder if any of the fans of the schools like Maryland who seem to change their unis on each drive forget what their team is wearing during a game.  Look at Sparty when they put on their "Look at me, I look like something Notre Dame wears!" uniform.  So are we the Red White & Blue with Black, purple & pink highlights this week, or the Blue White & Black with Purple, Red & pink chrome?

Just put on a damn jersey & try getting it dirty & bloody.

And if I had a lawn I'd tell you to get off the damn thing.  Turn that crap you call music down too!

Also want to point out that baby boomers probably don't care because they have been brainwashed by brand loyalty their entire lives. If their dad worked for GM their whole family bought GMs. Not saying that is all bad but I've noticed the baby boomer generation likes things simply because they are used to them. It took forever to try apple products because the baby boomer generation always had Dells. Foreign cars don't have as bad a stigma as they used to because the fact was Ford GM and Chrysler were making a lot of shitty products for awhile.

The fact is that Nike is better than Adidas for almost everything except maybe soccer. The younger crowd doesn't have as much brand loyalty which means we just want the best. And right now Nike is the best.

I don't care who we end up with but Nike has been the clear marketing leader for years and it shows in this thread.

People also need to realize that money doesn't just pop up everywhere. If we possibly leave millions of dollars on the table, where is the money going to come from which is even more important when we have dramatically expanded the expenses on the football team. Will it be advertising in the stadium, cost cutbaks in other sports or what?

I'm not saying they shouldn't switch, but to think it's automatic because of the vote of the athletes is silly. I'm sure they will consider their opinion but the bottom line has to be considered.

Claiming that the best product may get overlooked because of brand loyalty/comfort. I don't think younger people have brand loyalty at all but because Nike has been the best the last 5+ years younger people like Nike. I can see a major shift to UA because they have some very solid products as well.

It's a bunch of stitched fabric by Chinese laborers.

You believe Nike is the "best" because you've been led to believe they're the best by their marketing hype.

You can get off your high horse.  You're no different than the Boomers and their GM station wagons.

That's cool.  But there is no need to be so self-righteous about it.

The fact that youngsters are starting to flock to UA because they market "attitude", and not because of any real product difference, shows that they are just as susceptible to following the Brand-herd as any Boomer.

Every generation thinks they're smarter than the previous generations.  Except they're not.

Wow, Deep take millennial Tom Friedman, you're so wise. It's so amazing how nobody has ever noticed before that young people like buying prestige products and that they believe they can see through marketing. Nobody in the history of retail has ever taken advantage of that.

I'm pretty indifferent towards one or the other, but that money pay gap is going to be so large--considering the department doesn't get more money if people buy more bc of the switch, how does JH justify the millions per year lost if we go to Nike?

If it's a really big gap, he can't.  But if it's reasonably close, then that's the difference between Hackett and Brandon . . . the mission of the AD is not just to scrape every last dime off the table at the expense of everything else.  Other things matter too.

The athletic department is running a pretty large profit and that's with us sucking for a long time. Just win. And the money will flow even more. A few million difference looks big but not to this athletic department. Besides money doesn't equal winning, or else Texas would be a lot better.

Is there a reason why Michigan needs a third party to supply uniforms?  Why not start the Michigan brand?  Discuss...

The only pitfall - at least for some people who are decidely partial to brand - of using this strategy is that if you go with Nike, if you look at the size of the largest contracts, you're definitely not doing it for the money unless they offer something way north of the $4.2 million or so (I forget the exact figure) that FSU gets. Florida State is the largest deal they've got out there right now, so far as I remember anyway.

I wonder if, with their change in strategy, Adidas would even go with a contract worth north of $8 million per year again actually. This could be a fun bidding war regardless of brand, if it comes down to something like that.

What's the obsession with Nike? It's confounding. Nike will have some crappy uniforms too...then people will be begging for Adidas again. I know I posted but, this topic is so incredibly irrelevant. Fucking offseason.
