Wow -- no one proof read that article before publishing, huh?

FSU and Clemson definitely have a very valid reason to bitch, sitting with one loss each and looking up at two-loss LSU and TAMU. This is why I want to see eight teams in a playoff, including five major conference champions and three at large teams. The at large pool would also consist of champions from lesser conferences such as the Big East or CUSA, and the "indie champion."
That way, the top five berths would be out of the hands of the voters and in the hands of the people on the football field.

Michigan was at #8 (obviously overrated) when they lost to #1 Bama. They dropped to 19 which was fine. Then, they lost a squeeker on the road to #11 ND (now #3) and they are bounced from the top 25. Conversly, LSU, Georgia, Teas A&M SOuth Carolina and Florida started the season highly ranked and lose to eachother in the mediocre conference that is teh SEC, but because it's the SEC, and not the Big Ten or Big Twelve, it'k considered "great teams beating up on eachother". Whatever it is, it's rediculous logic. Every conference beats up on eachother, but non-SEC teams don't get the same "love" in the polls when they lose to the SEC because they are not the SEC (like Michigan did).

I would love nothing more than and Oregon, KState national championship and ND left on the outside looking in.

I have the same dreams. Must be a sign, a very good sign indeed. All Hail Hoke.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
And listen to a bunch of domers complain for eternity?
No thanks.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:41 PM ^
I'll take that for an eternity and a half please.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
I don't know which I would prefer--undefeated ND being frozen out of the national championship game, or Brian Kelly turning a deep shade of purple due to an unlucky/bad call-fueled loss during the USC game.

November 11th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
I'd rather have ND lose a game so we don't have to listen to all the ND fans whine incessantly.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:37 PM ^
ND wont have much to whine about after they get destroyed by Bama in a bowl game.
November 11th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
So you'd prefer the gloating that at least they made it to the national championship game
November 11th, 2012 at 2:31 PM ^
I think you misread my post. I always want ND to lose. The more they lose the better.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:39 PM ^
ND left on the outside looking in would more than likely mean that they go to the Rose Bowl... weird
November 11th, 2012 at 12:48 PM ^
And beats a top 5 team in Georgia, they'll leapfrog ND in the human polls. I wouldn't be surprised if the winner of Bama-Georgia jumps them. I guarantee that by 8:15PM, December 1st, Gary Danielson will be leading the hype machine that a 1-loss SEC team deserves to go over an ND team that could barely beat BYU, Pitt and mediocre B1G teams at home.

Ranked for the first time in 39 years!
November 11th, 2012 at 12:21 PM ^
hahaha at USC with 3 losses... It just makes me so happy since in the pre-season it was almost blasphemy if you didn't have them in the title game vs Bama or FSU

November 11th, 2012 at 12:32 PM ^
I wonder how many voters are out there are/were just hoping to keep the SEC out of the championship? The Alabama loss gave them the perfect opportunity, and I applaud.
November 11th, 2012 at 2:00 PM ^
I hate the SEC as much as anyone but I think 6 years of decisive national championship wins (to one loss), should get the winner of that conference into the NC game. I'd also bet that happens if either Georgia or Bama wins the SECCG by a big margin.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:24 PM ^
Polls don't matter. The goal is to win the B1G Championship and beat ohio.
This Is MICHIGAN.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:24 PM ^
Dang we're ranked... I thought for sure we'ld beat Iowa
November 11th, 2012 at 12:24 PM ^
we only have loses to teams ranked 3,4, or 16... so at least we have that in our favor...
seriously though, I'm not too concerned with the polls right now. lets wait to see where the season ends and then equate our success, or lack thereof, to a number.
love,
jdon

Slim. Last year there was only two 3 loss teams in the top 14 (Baylor and Oklahoma), and the yera before there were none.
It's not impossible but it is definitely not likely.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
Looking at the teams Texas, UCLA, USC, Oregon State, and Stanford all have one more likely loss on their schedules. That bumps us up 5 spots to 18. Beating Ohio State could easily bump us ahead of teams like Louisville, Louisiana Tech, and Rutgers. That seems pretty close to the top 14 to me.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:58 PM ^
I still think they will see us as a team that just made it's way through a very mediocre Big 10 conference, and that will likely make us drop a few spots.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:52 PM ^
This is just the AP poll, which isn't used for BCS considerations. If you have some upsets ahead of us, and the computers like us, I could see a convincing win over an undefeated OSU team giving us a big jump. But if it's between us and ND for a final at-large berth, they likely would get it anyway.
November 11th, 2012 at 3:42 PM ^
Non-AQ conf champ would need to be in the top 12 or 16 of the BCS to get an automatic bid, depending on rank of AQ conf champs. Boise is pretty low with easy games left so that won't happen with them but La Tech could sneak up there.
So if the top 2 are undefeated Oregon and K State, they'd be conf champs. And ND would make a total of 7 AQs. This leaves 3 at large spots. SEC gets one and a bunch of SEC teams in the top 14 get shut out (boo hoo). If La Tech gets an auto it's down to one more slot for a 2nd team - and all 5 other conferences might have a chance. But the B1G and Michigan probably have the smallest chance, yes, even behind the Big East.
November 11th, 2012 at 8:17 PM ^
No, Notre Dame takes the Big East's AQ spot if they qualify.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:53 PM ^
IMHO, not good. We'll beat Iowa and win our bowl game, but it's not happening down in Columbus this year. If NW can put up over 400 yds and 31 pts on our defense at home, then it's not going to be a pleasant day for our D in the Snakepit. Our offense is going to have to be hugely more productive than it's been so far against good teams to keep up with the Buckeyes.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:59 PM ^
So we can't beat OSU, but you're confident we will beat Florida/Georgia/SouthCarolina in the bowl game?
November 11th, 2012 at 1:19 PM ^
Fair question... I think there is a difference between playing in somebody's own stadium versus playing in a bowl venue, but I agree that FL/GA/SC would be very tough games in any event. That doesn't change my view about OSU, though.
November 11th, 2012 at 1:12 PM ^
I'll agree that we'll definitely have a challenge on our hands, but Ohio State isn't as good as their record makes them out to be.
November 11th, 2012 at 1:23 PM ^
I think having Mattison as our defensive coordinator will go a long way in the game. He is very familiar with Urban's offensive approach since he was Florida's defensive coordinator from 2005-2007. As long as we can hold them to under 30 points I think we have a good shot at winning, and our front seven will be the best OSU has seen this year. If Indiana can put up 49 on them, I think we can muster 35-42 points, especially with a healthy Denard. I know it's not the brightest idea to look past an Iowa opponent that has played us well recently, but I'm willing to bet that Hoke spends some time this week preparing for OSU.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
So Alabama drops three spots? That seems fair.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:31 PM ^
far too often pollsters rank teams on a very reactionary basis. Alabama's body of work is very impressive and I think they're still the best team in the country. 4th is very reasonable after losing close to a Texas A&M team that has competed with LSU and Florida
November 11th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
I honestly don't know how anyone could watch Alabama play last night and still claim that they are the best team in the country. You should be an AP voter.
November 11th, 2012 at 12:35 PM ^
I still would take Bama over anyone in the MNC.
November 11th, 2012 at 1:45 PM ^
Are you seroius? They lost at home to a two-loss team, and looked awful doing it. Most of their schedule has been absolute garbage. It's time to wake up and realize that the SEC isn't the dominant conference everyone says it is.
November 11th, 2012 at 1:47 PM ^
Oops double
November 11th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
FSU drops 2 places for struggling at VT and Florida doesn't drop for almost losing to Louisiana Lafayette at home? That makes no sense.
