Michigan switching apparel?

Submitted by VaUMWolverine on
A sports apparel business where I live (in Va) is selling all Michigan gear at 50% off. He's telling everyone Michigan is getting ready to move from Adidas. Any truth to this? Have I been living in a cave?

As I recall, it is indeed the 2016-17 season and I believe Dave Brandon has mentioned repeatedly that there is no intention right now of an early exit from the Adidas contract, although I would dare say that it isn't so much about the product as the terms of the contract. In any case, the fan in me does admittedly miss the Nike uniforms, but we won't know much about the direction of the department for a while.

I'd guess this is similar to GVSU's big sale of old merch every spring. It's odd that this guy is apparently telling everybody that Michigan is going away from Adidas, but he's probably just straight up wrong. It isn't impossible that they are going with a new company, though.

I'd love to see under armour. I don't like a lot of their uniforms but love some of their cleats and their non team related apparel. Michigan won't let anybody touch the classic Michigan football look so I see no negatives in going to them. honestly it would help recruiting, that or Nike again. it would actually factor into my college decision if I were a basketball player. sounds dumb but I would want to go to a Jordan sponsored school.

Didn't ND sign with UA because they wanted to be the biggest brand for their clothing company and had a contract that warranted that? I doubt UM will go for less money than ND and therefore I doubt that UM will sign with UA. My bet is they re sign with adidas for more money than the current contract unless nike comes with a better/similar offer... wich I don't see them doing.

Has the worst shoes on the market. There so cheap and crappy, they are even worse the Nike! I've said it once and I will say it again FUCK NIKE for telling us we were not the brand they thought we were and bounced us and moved the NIKE camp to OSU's campus . I for one am grateful for Adidas and what they have given in terms of money to our school!!!

...is so money then why can't we manufacture our own brand?  Fuck the the corporate shit form Nike, Adidas, etc.  At the very least, couldn't we find a local Michigan manufacturer for jerseys and shoes?  If the U puts their muscle behind it that could launch a brand.  Set up shop in Detroit and pay a decent wage.  Why not?  This is the kind of progressive thinking we need.

Having said that, if Michigan must sport the logo of a major existing brand, then I'd vote for a partnership with Ralph Lauren.  He may not be noted for his sports gear (in spite of outfitting the US Olympic teams, Wimbledon, etc) but would certainly do a better job of respecting & interpreting tradition than any of the "unifomz" bullshit from other manufacturers.

If the store owner is just marking down the merch now, that would mean he expects new merch quite soon. I'm not familiar w Nike's lead times, but this stuff would have to have been in development and production for probably a year. It seems like we would have heard about this unless m kept it double super secret

I just heard from a close friend whose cousin married a former manufacturers rep who was at a midwest convention with his uncle and....oh, hell with it, they're gonna play football naked up in AA this Fall.  And, now you know.

How about the Duluth Trading Company? They seem to be a very innovative company with their, Ballroom Jeans and Free Swingin' Flannels. Imagine the possibilities....
