I'm rooting for Wisconsin. Don't want Sparty to have a shot at a share of the title.

Michigan State Vs. Wisconsin
It's wisky not Bucky. Please change before the wheels come off.
It's wiscy, not wisky. Shoot me.
Is it though? I was just thinking of the "Teach Me How To Bucky" YouTube video. So shoot me. Nice avatar by the way.
is the mascot's name for Wisky, no? I think the Buckeyes have Brutus. Or Lebron James. not sure.
I didn't know that. I thought he meant that Bucky=ohio, and Sparty's not playing ohio, their playing wiscy.
Weird because I saw Bucky and thought of Ohio State.
/trollface
I also thought he meant Buckeyes. Although I knew Wisconsin's mascot was named Bucky Badger, that's certainly not how I think of WIsconsin.
Too many people try to be cute and make things worse. What's so hard with saying the names of the schools? MSU vs. Wisconsin would have been very clear.
I think it's better for us if MSU wins, as UW has a tie breaker against us. But then again, it would be nice to see MSU out of the race for a B1G title. So really, it doesn't matter, and I'd be happy with either result. Provided we beat IU of course.
I agree. It's tough to watch that game and have a rooting interest. It really doesn't matter, I guess I'm just looking forward to the postseason. The IU game will be tough. Hopefully the officiating is even for a change.
That chart was ridiculous to try to read so I guess I'll take your word for it.
If State wins tonight then UMich beats IU, UMich is guarunteed to be a 2 or 3 seed, which is essentially the same. If Wisconsin wins tonight and UMich wins, there is still a chance UMich would be a 4 seed.
I hate games when I have to root for teams I hate but desperate times call for desperate measures.
Desperate times? I'm not sure this qualifies. Rooting for OSU the other night, yes. For possible seeding in a tournament that while it would be nice to win, isn't the one we're really after? I think we should save our desperate measures for more significant results.
Yeah I was kind of including having to root for Ohio. The whole thing just makes me feel dirty. I would rather Michigan just have won the games they should have won and been in complete control and not have to depend on these other teams.
Eh. Assuming they both win their final game, it will still come down to us beating Indiana or be saddled with the 5th seed.
Might as well go for broke, eh?
someone will run over Tom Izzo while he's in the middle of the floor screaming.
Granted, Massey's numbers will change depending on the outcome of this game, so this reply contains a certain amount of speculation, but in fiddling with the table I posted in the BTT Scenarios thread, you would think this game something of a wash for us (based on a table of potential scenarios provided by UMHoops). Massey puts this game up as a 74% Michigan State lean right now.
All that would be for seeding purposes anyway - if State wins, the two most likely scenarios would have us as either a 3 or 5 seed, which oddly enough is the same result we would see if Wisconsin pulled this out. Again, the percentages will change after the game and some revision may be necessary, but given the estimates now, we seem to be closing in on the 3-5 seed range depending on everything else that goes on this weekend in the conference.
even if we don't beat Indiana. So go Wisconsin...except I hate Wisconsin too. So go lose, MSU
I'm rooting for the meteor. But if I had to pick a team, I'd probably pick Sparty. Don't really care for Izzo, but I feel like his team is more deserving of a title. And I respect what he's been able to do on the court over the years. When his teams have beaten us, its usually been because they were just flat out the better team that night.
I just despise Bo Ryan and everything that is Wisconsin basketball. His damn buzzer beater antics over the last few years have a lot to do with that. His teams aren't any better than ours, but they've gotten by on blind dumb luck sometimes.
and then see them lose to Penn State on Sunday. Then I want to see OSU lose to Illinois. Then when UM beats IU, UM will not have to share it with our two biggest rivals and a team that was lucky to beat our boys on a prayer of a shot (and who also did not have to come to Crisler). I also want an Oompa Loompa too.
Go Blue! Beat IU!!!
I'm not rooting for either, so I don't get tied up in other teams' stuff so much. I'm just rooting for us to win our game.
Do I have to be kind?
/s
Uh. Go meteor? I hate both of these basketball teams oh so much. Every time I see a player from an opposing team at midcourt with the ball I twitch thanks to wisconsin.
And state is state. Who I hate.

Go Wisconsin. Don't want MSU to win a title.
That's very Sparty of you. It benefits Michigan if Wisconsin loses. That's all I care about.
There is no need to be a jerk. I think it'd be nice for our program to finish ahead of MSU in the standings (which hasn't happened since the 1990s). That's something that could pay off in recruiting down the road. Meanwhile, the "benefits" of MSU winning relate only to BTT seeding. That really doesn't matter to me.
Man, I didn't realize people's e-feelings would be so hurt - I wasn't that malicious, was I?
We always say that it is "typical Sparty" to cheer for UM to lose when UM winning benefits them. It would be hypocritical to say that and then cheer for MSU to lose when them winning helps us.
Do you really think a 1 game difference in conference standings in a given year has any tangible effect on recruiting? I don't, but I am open to hearing that argument. Unless that one game difference is one team winning a title and another not, I think tournament outcomes are far more memorable for a recruit.
How is a better seed in the Big Ten Tournament benefiting Michigan more than a Big Ten regular season title not shared with sparty if Michigan wins on Sunday?
I don't know, to me a shared title is a shared title. From my team's perspective, I don't care who I share it with.
I'd rather get a 2/3 seed to avoid IU in the semifinals of the B10 tournament, thus giving us the best chance of racking up BTT wins and earning a #1 seed. I think that's far more important in this season where we have a legitimate chance to make a final four run.
In other news, PSU is winning at NW. It wouldn't hurt for them to win and ever-so-slightly remove some of the stigma from that loss.
Something I was considering at work today....if MSU loses today and has an early loss in the Big Ten tourny, I've had to think there is a decent chance they fall to the 4 seed line in the NCCA touranment, which if I understand correctly, would make them unprotected in regards to seeding location. I'd love to not have all of those MSU fans in the stands, cheering against us while they get shipped DC or LA. Looking at our home vs. road record, the less fans cheering against us the better! Any thoughts on this?
Cheers to this.
I believe they'd still be at the Palace if they were a #4.
be like a backyard game- first one to fifty wins...
Why does every game of interest have to start at 9:00? It's murder on us who have to wake up early. Grrr.
What I'm hoping for is for Wisconsin to win, but Gary Harris and Adreian Payne have big games and continue to raise their NBA stock.
how did we lose to them. their offense is so pathetic.
Because at times our defense is that bad
50 missed layups by our squad and a flukey halfcourt make by the bad guys.
anyone have a stream to the game (overseas so ESPN.com won't work for me). None of the online streams are working...
10-6 msu. 12 min left in 1H.
http://atdhe.so/watch.php?id=619002
for those also looking.
As frustrated as I get with THJ and Robinson at times, it could be worse. It could be Dawson bad. Talk about disappearing.
Good Lord Izzo is in rare form.
i love going over there and followint thier gameday threads...those guys are a new breed of ignorant
offensive juggernauts
is looking a little Garfunkely
Carrot top
scoring less than a point a minute...fielding yost laughs.
i've already seen at least 4 3pt shots hit the backboard first in this game. do these guys practice shooting at all anymore?
I'm struggling with this game. I know the best scenerio is for MSU to win. If so, and we beat IU, we are in perfect position at the 2 or 3 seed.
However, if we lose to IU (bare with me, I'm just saying *if*), a Wiscy win would be better for us, still giving us that 4 seed.
But more powerful, much more powerful emotionally is that I would love to keep MSU from getting a share of *OUR* Big Ten Championship Titile. Sure, if Wiscy and UM both win, we will likely be the 4th seed and have to play MSU plus two top teams in the BTT. Maybe I just don't care enough about that. I would love to see MSU lose.
Am I wrong?
I need confirmation or advice.
It would be great to see MSU lose once again and not get a share of our title.
btw, I didn't have a hard time rooting for OSU the other day. Beating IU gave UM a much greater benefit than simply one easier game in the BTT. And frankly, I have more hate for MSU basketball. I keep watching this game and cheering everything bad MSU does.
msu to lose. why care about the seeding in the BIG as long as we get a top 4 and receive a bye. i couldn't care less who we play.
Big Ten Tournament means jack shit. Why would any Michigan fan root for Sparty in this game since if they lost it would eliminate their conference title hopes.
This is an offensive exhibition.
He freaks out about just about every foul called on MSU. I imagine he sits in the film room and proclaims "That is the fifth straight game where I didn't see our team commit a single foul! Why do the refs keep calling fouls on us??"
It's fucking amazing to me that we made Wisconsin's offense look like the Miami Heat.
Well, they've won 11 games in league play. It's not like they suck. They tore up Ohio's defense worse than ours.
MSU is a good offensive rebounding team.
Watching this game is giving me eye cancer.
Watching WBB crush indiana in the B1G Tournament on BTN, and I flip the channel to see this score. And I'm looking like
CBB refs need to grow a pair and "T" the guy up when he acts like this, especially when he walks onto the court to do his whining. Until they do, he'll keep on being a drama queen.
Whining is very accurate. Whenever Izzo complains, he never looks angry. He's always crying. Majority of the time, he literally looks like he's having a panic attack.
Dammit Wisconsin.
I think it is possible that if this game continues to be this ugly, the Big Ten might only credit the winner with a half W, meaning this could work out very well for us after all.
This is just as ugly as when these teams played in Madison. In the final minute of that game, Wisconsin missed 6 free throws to hand Sparty the win 49-47.
Amazing how Wisconsin misses half a dozen free throws against Sparty at the end of the game but they make a miracle half court shot against us.
Way to go Brusewitz...you shot it too early.
And I believe 7 points is too many for this Wisconsin offense to overcome.
Ha. Wisconsin just got hit with a buzzer beater to end the half. I know it's not much, but any buzzer beater against Wisconsin is somewhat comforting.
This style of basketball is just so bad to watch. There is something to be said for good defense but this is just total lack of ball skills too. Wisconsin didn't even get to 20 points. I can't wait until Bo Ryan retires. Fucking ugly basketball.
If wiscy would just make their layups.
Wisconsin has a bunch of players who are like DJ Byrd with their shot selection.
Is wisconsin seriously shooting like 10%? This is insane.
I know our D is bad, but it w would be a lot better if people shot like this against us.
I think MSU's 33 points might already be enough to win this one...
This looks like high schoolers vs college players right now.
Wisconsin might not score 35 tonight.
Is quite possibly the worst jump shooting team I've seen in a long time. How the fuck did they drain a half courter at the buzzer against us?
It was probably the last shot they'll make all season.
those are set shots.
This wisconsin team cant hit shit
but that's what these two schools specialize in. Give me Beilein ball any day.
LOL. When teams play against us they make blind, heavily contested half court shots with regularity. When they play ANYONE else they can't hit anything no matter how open they are.
Wisconsin has missed like 15 straight three's and none of them has been close. Against us? Everything that went up went in. I wish I knew what it is about our uni's that lights everyone up and makes them shoot lights out but they all do. They ALL do.
And it pisses me off to no end
This game is over.
I can't watch Wisconsin. Taking ugly jump shots, 4 straight offensive rebounds leading to no points, missing all their 3's, missing layups. None of these things were problems for them when they faced us. I just feel like punching something.
All it took Appling to get some confidence and get going was a three-pointer. If only GR3 could get going just as easily.
Has officially set the game of basketball back 30 years. They might as well go back to playing with peach baskets. Holy freaking god.
I know they look awful but somehow Wisconsin has a bunch of B1G wins. How is this happening?
Wisconsin is 8-35...beautiful.
I think Wisconsin is going for the fewest possessions possible in a game. No made basket and lots and lots of rebounds.
I'm sorry. That was funny. Not saying I'm glad he almost got hurt. I'm just saying it was funny.
Drink everytime Wisconsin makes a shot. You win if you get tipsy.
Finally...a drinking game for the DD.
Wisconsin might be better off running a Four Corners offense.
They should just punt on first down
Payne should have got a technical for hanging on the rim.
This is the worst basketball I have ever watched.
I fucking hate Wisconsin basketball. I hope MSU keeps this pace up and holds them under 40 points.
Wisconsin is shooting about 5% in the 2nd half. That is not an exaggeration. Seriously not kidding
Holy shit. A WIsconsin layup.
after he missed his dunk?
he got an offensive rebound while laying on the ground. that's how bad wisconsin is tonite. i will give him credit for calling the TO though. i wish our guys would do that more often when in trouble.
But I thought maybe Izzo was just really relieved to see Payne stand up after that King Kong fall on or around his brainbox. I know I thought he was in bad shape when he first crumpled.
Some things to think over. This year, Wisconsin beat OSU by 22 at home but lost to Purdue by 13 at home. They beat us at home but lose to Virginia at home. They lose at Iowa but they win at Indiana. They win at Illinois but lose at Creighton by double digits.
They're all over the place.
Creighton is not a bad loss.
Remind me again why we didnt get a home game against these clowns? I'm sorry but the Wisconsin loss pisses me off more than the PSU loss.
Big Ten schedule rotation. Last year we played each other once and the game was at Crisler. Beat them by 24 that day.
do those guys really have full ride scholarships to play basketball?
Two take aways from this game: Payne's botched dunk was the worst ever, and Bruesewitz #31 for Wiscy is the ugliest player to step foot on the court since Bobby Hurley.
ugliest player? I feel like this is a google image search challenge.
Umm..Sheldon Williams, Kyle Singler, Carlos Boozer, Greg Paulus. Hurley was nothing compared to those guys
MSU is shooting 36% from two, and 20% from three.... and they are up by 21 and have doubled Wiscy's point total.
It's awful to watch, they never score, they foul everyone (but never get called for it), and somehow they still win a alot.
Rooting for Wisconsin is like rooting for the Washington Generals
Wiscy's on a 3-0 run...
oh wait. It just ended.
I don't want to jinx anything buuuut
updated seeding scenarios to focus on now
Sooo...go Illinois!
Not really. 2 or 3 seed is essentially the same. Would you rather play MSU or OSU? Not much difference. I think, if anything, OSU will be slightly easier.
That's a good point, and you just gave me nightmares. I would argue Ohio State is playing better as of late, but I'm splitting hairs.
woooaah, nelly. Hold your horses.
Really jumping to conclusions there. Still 6 minutes left. Anything can happen.
Wisconsin couldn't overcome a 23 point deficit if there was 600 minutes left in this game.
What that chart is telling me is this...
Beat Indiana - 2 or 3 seed
- Quarterfinal vs Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, or Purdue
- Semifinal vs Ohio (if Ohio beats Illinois) or Sparty (if Illinois beats Ohio) *most likely, barring upset*
Lose to Indiana, Penn State beats Wisconsin - 4 seed
- Quarterfinal against Wisconsin or Penn State
- Semifinal against Indiana
Lose to Indiana, Wisconsin beats Penn State - 5 seed
- First Round Game against Penn State
- Quarterfinal against Wisconsin
- Semifinal vs Indiana
I much prefer path #1 please.
I have no idea what that chart is supposed to tell me
I'm done.
I can’t. I just want to cry and I honestly think I’m about to. This is the sorriest effort I ever remember seeing out of this team, and I just can’t do it anymore. Tomorrow is another day.
NICE hit! Clean foul. Nice hairdo.
Good. I hope MSU continues to run Wisconsin into the ground. I despise Bo Ran with ever fiber of my being.
Watching this shammokery of a travesty makes me wonder two things:
1. How in the hell did MSU managed to lose 7 games?
2. How in the hell did Wisconsin manage to win any?
Maybe getting beat down by Purdue at home wasn't a fluke for Wisky. Maybe they are just playing that poorly right now.
add this
3. how in hell was wisconsin able to hit a running contested halfcourt three at the buzzer against us when they can't make a wide open three against sparty
makes UM's 0-12 not so bad. sparty must sure defend that 3 well.
msu's d is no question great, but wisky has missed some wide open threes in the second half. they are just off tonight. maybe it's just breslin.
most 3s are uncontested, otherwise they wouldn't be taken. 2-32 is just pure bad shooting. or lucky for msu.
Payne just got a rebound and took two full steps before the outlet. No call.
It isn't just against us.
new rooting angle for this game:
Wiscy < 40
Did the ball get swapped for a greased pig tonight?
Everyone who is hoping Wisconsin wins is crazy. Understandable, I guess, given the emotions involved, but still wrong. According to the chart El Fuego posted above, with a Sparty win, the game Sunday determines Michigan's seed in the BTT:
Win, and they are a 2/3 seed, and will play MSU or OSU in the semis (assuming a win Friday against a bottom-half B1G team). Either way, get a bye Thursday and looking at a pretty easy first round game (at least as easy as B1G games can be this season). Beat MSU/OSU, and M is in the final.
Lose to Indiana, and 7/8 outcomes have M playing Wisco in the 4/5 game. It would suck to be the 5 and have to play Penn State again, but oh well. Anyway, based on how well UW has played recently, I like our chances in a rematch. Which would put us in the semis against Indiana, but it's hard to beat a team 3 times in one season.
Finally, MSU winning tonight (as I write, it's a 18 point lead with 2 min left) guarantees Indiana the 1 seed. They'll still want to win the title outright on Sunday, but with both tournament 1 seeds pretty much locked up, they might lack a little motivation. Every little bit helps.
I think you are making too much of the BTT. I would rather finish ahead of MSU in the Big Ten standings, which we haven't done since the 1990s (we've been tied with them the last two years and a couple times under Amaker, but not ahead of them in this century). I don't really care about the BTT. If you win, great. If you lose, you get extra rest. I don't see it as a huge deal.
I dunno. I see it as another opportunity to get quality wins against good teams, which would help the NCAA seeding. And I like our chances against MSU or OSU instead of Indiana. At least making the BTT final could be enough to push us to the 1 line (assuming other games fall our way, of course). And that makes the road to the ultimate goal easier.
It's a moot point now, but I think you are caring about finishing ahead of MSU too much. If neither team wins the BTT, people are going to care more about who goes further in the NCAA tournament anyway.
5 star recruit Devin Booker (who is high on UM) is at this MSU game. Do you think he's sold on MSU?
Was anyone sitting next to him at the game?
After watching this game I can't imagine getting involved in that ugliness
He'll be in Ann Arbor this Sunday per Umhoops. Have to imagine the atmosphere will be amazing. Just wish I could be there. Am getting to go to BTT though so decent trade off.
I have a hard time making TOO much fun of a guys looks. Not like he can do anything about it and for my money the dude to his left (who's name escapes me at the moment) isn't exactly threatening to hit the cover of GQ either anytime soon.
