Michigan State Vs. Wisconsin

Submitted by GoBlue_55 on

Please be kind, it's my first thread. Who do we want to win this game? I will never cheer for Sparty, but if it's necessary, I guess I can hope they win the game. Honestly, I'm more concerned about the seating for the Big Ten Tournament. I think a good showing will propel us to a #1 seed

(Slight Mod Edit - the original title was causing minor confusion. LSA)

Wisconsin is shooting about 5% in the 2nd half. That is not an exaggeration. Seriously not kidding

Some things to think over.  This year, Wisconsin beat OSU by 22 at home but lost to Purdue by 13 at home.  They beat us at home but lose to Virginia at home.  They lose at Iowa but they win at Indiana.  They win at Illinois but lose at Creighton by double digits.

They're all over the place.

Remind me again why we didnt get a home game against these clowns?  I'm sorry but the Wisconsin loss pisses me off more than the PSU loss.

Two take aways from this game: Payne's botched dunk was the worst ever, and Bruesewitz #31 for Wiscy is the ugliest player to step foot on the court since Bobby Hurley.

What that chart is telling me is this...

Beat Indiana - 2 or 3 seed

 - Quarterfinal vs Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, or Purdue

 - Semifinal vs Ohio (if Ohio beats Illinois) or Sparty (if Illinois beats Ohio) *most likely, barring upset*

Lose to Indiana, Penn State beats Wisconsin - 4 seed

 - Quarterfinal against Wisconsin or Penn State

 - Semifinal against Indiana

Lose to Indiana, Wisconsin beats Penn State - 5 seed

 - First Round Game against Penn State

 - Quarterfinal against Wisconsin

 - Semifinal vs Indiana

I much prefer path #1 please.

Watching this shammokery of a travesty makes me wonder two things:

1. How in the hell did MSU managed to lose 7 games?

2. How in the hell did Wisconsin manage to win any?

Everyone who is hoping Wisconsin wins is crazy. Understandable, I guess, given the emotions involved, but still wrong. According to the chart El Fuego posted above, with a Sparty win, the game Sunday determines Michigan's seed in the BTT:

Win, and they are a 2/3 seed, and will play MSU or OSU in the semis (assuming a win Friday against a bottom-half B1G team). Either way, get a bye Thursday and looking at a pretty easy first round game (at least as easy as B1G games can be this season). Beat MSU/OSU, and M is in the final.

Lose to Indiana, and 7/8 outcomes have M playing Wisco in the 4/5 game. It would suck to be the 5 and have to play Penn State again, but oh well. Anyway, based on how well UW has played recently, I like our chances in a rematch. Which would put us in the semis against Indiana, but it's hard to beat a team 3 times in one season.

Finally, MSU winning tonight (as I write, it's a 18 point lead with 2 min left) guarantees Indiana the 1 seed. They'll still want to win the title outright on Sunday, but with both tournament 1 seeds pretty much locked up, they might lack a little motivation. Every little bit helps.

I think you are making too much of the BTT.  I would rather finish ahead of MSU in the Big Ten standings, which we haven't done since the 1990s (we've been tied with them the last two years and a couple times under Amaker, but not ahead of them in this century).  I don't really care about the BTT.  If you win, great.  If you lose, you get extra rest.  I don't see it as a huge deal.
