Michigan Stadium Tunnel on Google Maps

Submitted by MGoBat on

You can walk down the tunnel and onto the field in Google Maps

Also, there is a tool called Photo Sphere for adding game day images. We should all add our seats to the map so we can stop with the how's the veiw from 'x' seat threads.

I've never been down the tunnel before. A couple things stood out to me..

1. I didn't know the visiting teams locker room was directly across from Michigans.

2. IMO it seems like the tunnel needs to be... updated? Lots of cracks in the walls and what not. It's slighty dungeon like if you ask me.

Here is the video that I shot walking down the tunnel this past weekend.

I got my first chance to go into the locker room last winter and walk down the tunnel and hang out on the field for a work event. I got chills thinking about all the players and coaches who walked thos same steps, Yost, Harmon, Bo, AC, Leach, Edwards, Hart, Woodson, Howard just to same a very small few. A-Maize-ing

Besides players/coaches, the other group of people that must get to experience the tunnel with a real rush on gamedays is the Michigan Marching Band. Any MMBers out there want to share their tunnel stories?

I remember being crammed in like sardines.  It was intense coming out of the tunnel the first time at Entry Cadence.  The crowd cheered.  We played the M Fanfare.  The crowd cheered.  Guy Bordo (Drum Major) did his thing and the crowd cheered even more.

I bet I was on an adrenaline high every time we did pre-game. Nervous as hell each time too as they told us that roughly 500 different people in the stands would be staring at each one of us individually.

I marched percussion. I was terrified that I would trip on one of the millions of cables that run through and around the area. I would have taken out half the band in a drum-based traffic jam. Scared me every time.
But once you are through and in the light, it's amazing.
Also, mad props to Carl Grapentine who has announced the band for 40+ years. Hearing his voice when I was in the tunnel meant it was TIME. Such a great announcer.

Back in the olden days, I went to baseball camp at UM (mid 80's) and I recall that the football stadium wasn't locked. A few times after camp ended we grabbed a football and played pickup games on the field. This Google experience brought me back to that feeling of entering the field and the enormity of the stadium from field level.
