That Gardner floater reminds me of Trey Burke's floaters.

Wow...that outside zone run by Rawls was pretty bad defensive play by the second unit. AJ Williams did a good job blocking it, though. That's a good sign.

That was a great route Jansen, good play call and nice hands by Butt

Needless to say he wasted me.
Good to see he's as fat as I am now.

Joe Bolden's spring has been like this game - almost unnoticed

Ben Braden is very mobile for 315 pounds as shown by his movement downfield on that screen to Drake.

O-line rarely looks good in spring games.
I saw Rawls and Drake Johnson at least having enough space to gain a couple yards, which is more than Fitz ever really got last season. These guys are built for this offense and will likely show huge improvement as the season goes on.

Only real surprise is Bryant (58), I thought there were good reports on him prior to the leg injury and that he would have started last year (not that starting last year on the interior OL is a ringing endorsement).
April 14th, 2013 at 12:50 AM ^
He was only cleared to play a few weeks ago. This was his first "game" since high school, and I honestly didn't think he looked that bad.
True, but he has just as much experience as them. He also is not in as good of shape as he will be. He came in way overweight, lost it all, then broke his leg. It's going to take him time. He's been out for the past year. He should steadily improve from here on out.

Thanks for your awesome analysis. It's a wonder that we got a pass off or any positive yardage on the ground.

Brian should UFR the spring game (at LEAST first unit, if not also second unit), to fill up some dead time in the summer.

I'm rewatching...
Heitzman and Beyer both played more than I first realized. Also we started with Gordon at SS and Wilson at FS. On the 3rd play you see Gordon yelling at Wilson to get in position and Jarrod runs to the deep middle.
Hollowell also got extended snaps on D, not sure if they were hold Taylor out a little bit like Countess.

18,000 according to Kyle Meinke.

Countess didn't play. Dymonte Thomas was playing at the nickel position.
April 13th, 2013 at 11:29 PM ^
I've seen Heitzman and Godin, but not him. I may have missed him as they're now letting all the walk-ons get some love.
April 13th, 2013 at 11:44 PM ^
Wormley played at least a few plays. He didn't do much that I saw.
April 13th, 2013 at 11:25 PM ^
...but I know Countess didn't play because Hoke said in the postgame presser that he and Fitz are not participating in anything "contact"
Dymonte Thomas has been playing, hasn't caught my eye though, I've just seen him on the field at times.

James Ross is a beast.
Pipkins, Ross, Wilson are all getting a lot of reps.

I thought OL was pretty good today compared to what it had been last year.
April 13th, 2013 at 11:45 PM ^
Run blocking was better. Pass blocking left a little to be desired. Those young guys get confused by stunts.
April 13th, 2013 at 11:51 PM ^
To be fair to our O-Line, a lot of people seem to get fooled by Greg Mattison's stunts.
The defense was better than the offense, but you expect that this time of year. There were some running plays where $running_back had room to run, and there were some that were swallowed up in the backfield. As an offensive guy, I love watching our defense swarm to the ball.
Way too early prediction: this offense isn't going to lead the B1G in rushing, but they are going to be able to move the ball against most defense fronts that we face. Those top level teams that we face are probably going to come down to Gorgeous's gameplan and Devin's ability to win games.

speaking of bball,it was great to see GR3,Levert and Spike at the game today. they walked right by me at my seat before i realized who they were. Not a knock but GR3 is not a very big guy, think he needs to stay and bulk up some. please????
April 13th, 2013 at 11:55 PM ^
...playing PF.
He just needs to learn how to be more aggressive with the ball in his hands and be more active defensively.
He's a kid that I think a full offseason will do WONDERS for. I think he'll be the most improved player along with LeVert.

Willie Henry and Charlton looked pretty good. So did the older guys but that's expected.
I'm most excited about James Ross. It's been a while since we had a great linebacker, and he has all the makings of one.
too soon :(
