Michigan Softball vs Kentucky Open Thread @ noon
Today at noon the Michigan Softball team plays the Univeristy of Kentucky, in the winner's bracket of the Ann Arbor Regional.
UK defeated Notre Dame in mercy rule style 8-0. ND could only garner 2 hits against UK pitcher Chanda Bell. Bell had all her pitches working yesterday.
Hutch is trying to overcome the second injury that has caused a major change in the line up. Colie Sappoingfield busted her knee up. Hutch put Lyndsay Doyle over to Left and DP Alycia Ryan out to RF. Since moving to the No. 2 spot Lyndsay Doyle has batted .455 (5-for-11) with a double and two RBI over the last three games. Senior Marley Powers took Alycia's spot in the DP position. Marley had a good game last night.
Today's game should be a low scoring affair. Bell seems to have her game tight and JT is on fire. A few things to watch today. JT needs 1 more win to break the all-time wins recorda Michigan and just 11 more Ks to tie Ritter. I suspect JT will not get 11 today but will get close. I do think she will break both records this weekend in AA.
Anyone that needs a beer, stop by as we will be tailgating in the complex today and Sunday.
Go Blue and Its Great.....To be......A Michigan Wolverine.
Last night was the first full game of womens softball I have ever seen. I came away impressed, I love the competitive attitude that was displayed by bothe sides.
same here, but on tv
I don't really watch much regular season. But I will watch any sport as long as Michigan is participating in the playoffs. Lets go Blue! Have a hell of a game JT.
I was lucky enough to be stationed in Oklahoma City during the 2005 season. Due to my military schedule I was only able to catch one game during the world series that year. However, it was the Michigan-Texas game from that year. In some great feat of magic the ladies were able to knock off Texas and their Olympic/Allworld pitcher Cat Osterman en route to the title a few days later. I recommend going out there to everyone.
I don't know why, but I've always found softball (especially Michigan softball) to be pretty entertaining. More so than any other womens sport
Although it does still amaze me how many times they whiff on a ball that big
Don't know all the science behind it but because of things such as mound placement and ball speed from that closer location, it is actually harder to hit a softball than a baseball.
softball is a much different game than baseball. Many people get it confused.
Volleyball? I could watch that all day.
Gymnastics. Yay spandex.
Is a special athlete, and could arguably be the most dominant female athlete in any sport right now.
I think its a daring claim to say shes even the most dominant pitcher in college softball right now much less all of womens sports
As much as I dislike them, that crown probably belongs to the Williams sisters, especially in doubles. That, or the star de jour on the UConn basketball team.
I went last night, what a great atmosphere. I can't make it today, as I will be working, but I will definitely be there on Sunday. Go Blue!
online?
ESPN3
Marley is one of the only athletes to go D-1 in any sport from my high school I went to in years. Its really great to see her crack the starting line-up, especially with her solid hitting performance last night.
the game ball today.
Oh man.......
This game is already getting me all hot and bothered.
I think it had to do with the two hits from Kentucky. Supposed to be working before being interrupted by out-of-town family, so didn't think I'd be able to watch. Put it on "in the background" and of course couldn't take my eyes off it.
I can't understand how the arms don't come off these premium pitchers. How can Jordan do so well in two-game days without destroying her shoulder? (Obviously I've never played serious softball.)
Looks like a nice crowd.
is a far more natural motion than throwing a baseball overhand.
Why are we the away team in this game?
I remember once when we were a host for the ncaa hockey tournament we were the away team at yost
coin toss.
Shaw pulled a Bill Buckner by letting a ball through her legs then not covering first. 1-0 Kentucky
hello rowlands...
The Kentucky catcher has a huge gap between her front teeth. This is the least surprising thing I've seen all day.
I saw that and just started laughing
edit:Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. Hell, I think Gibbons could knock it through that gap.
when her family reads that.
if they can, ya know, read
According to her bio she's from Sunnyvale, CA and made the academic all-conference team.
how would chidester be out either way? im very confused. either it hit her or she got to 1st safe. wtf
and why did the home plate ump check to 3rd? the 3rd base upmire couldnt see jack
And she was out?
Terrible call
The 3rd base ump should never make that call. That's horrible.
Man, UK lucked out there. Terrible call.
is NOT happy. Me neither. That seemed pretty clear cut like it hit Amanda's forearm. Also, she didn't swing. Also, assuming this 3rd base ump is the same lady that was the home plate ump last night, that mgosoftball was talking about, she probably needs glasses or to have her credentials revoked. Bree did not swing. Amanda did not swing. Neither were particularly close. Absolutely disgraceful. This officiating might be worse than Hockey East refs.
I'm busy can't watch
1-0 UK. Top of the 4th
Everyone's outraged because we got the bases loaded with 2 outs in the top of the 3rd and the 3rd base ump called chidester out after she was initially called safe. bad bad call
Where is our offense?
THERE'S NO CRYING IN SOFTBALL!!
I think it's allowed in softball, just not in baseball.
disgusting drop
Taylor is pitching really well. A lot of UK's hits have been golf swings out of the dirt
Yupp, I beleive that is all correct
Well this thread just dsaved me two hours of late night DVR watching. Better luck when we face them next.
