MICHIGAN SOFTBALL: REGIONAL CHAMPS

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The game is at 1pm on ESPN2.

This year has been really exciting for the underdogs. There have been many seeded teams that have lost games.

#1 Cali lost to Arkansas.  They play for the Regional Championship today.

#5 Florida lost to South Florida, in the final game.  Florida dismissed their 3 top players for a racial incident against a black teammate.  I applaud Coach Walton for doing the right thing here.  He knew his team would be weaker.  He could has kept this all quiet until the tournament was over but he didnt.  Too bad marky mark didnt do the same thing with Chris L. Rucker.  marky mark was in the hunt for a B1G Title and possible NC.  marky mark is a loser.

#7 Tennessee lost to Virginia Tech.  They play for the Regional Championship today.

#6 Texas lost to Northwestern.  They play for the Regional Championship today.

#8 Texas A&M lost to LSU.  They play for the Regional Championship today.

And the most shocking is #12 UCLA is OUT.  They lost to my sleeper pick Hofstra and SD State.  UCLA was playing at home too.  Yikes.  Hofstra and SDSU play for the Championship.

My other sleeper pick; La-Layafette is 2-0 and should win their Regional today.

BTW: #11 Oregon won their Regional last night.  Wonder why they played early?  They had BYU in their Regional and BYU does not play on Sundays.

MGoSoftball, for those of us far less in the know than you, can we get a mid-week report on what to expect against Alabama so we know what to pay attention to when we watch and so we know how to intelligently brag.  Sadly, my knowledge of this team comes up short after the names Chidester, Evans, and Lane.

That was me a couple years ago.  If you live near Ann Arbor or travel there in the spring-time, be sure to catch a UM home game sometime.  Tickets are cheap and all the seats, even the outfield bleachers, have a great view.  I went to a super-regional a couple years ago (season-ending loss to Tennessee) and the last weekend of games this year (3 Ws, sealed the B10 title), and have had a blast every time, including the loss.  Saw Brady Hoke and Taylor Lewan there, too!  This is one of the great things about an athletic department likes ours - someone's always winning!

Michigan Man stuck in Great Bend, KS for the weekend.  Was awesome to be able to watch this game, as well as yesterday's.

2012 NCAA Louisville Regional Champions.

This is Michigan's 15th Regional/Super Regional championship.

Hopefully the ladies can bump that number up to 16 next weekend.

Really loving what I see out there, with that great defense. Keep playing like that and only good things will happen.

alabama just won.

So Michigan will play at alabama next weekend in the Tuscaloosa Super Regional.

The game dates are Friday, 5/25 and Saturday, 5/26. The series will be a best 2 of 3. There will be game 3 following game 2 on Saturday in doubleheader if necessary.

I think Michigan can pull it off. Do it ladies!

I'm not sure they have announced the dates yet.  There will be 2 super-regionals on Thursday & Friday, 3 on Friday & Saturday and 3 on Saturday & Sunday.  I think they will let all of the regionals finish (and consult with ESPN) before they decide which regionals will be in which time slots.

The girls had 3 double plays today. Double plays are rare in softball, one is impressive, but 3 is extremely impressive. The girls fielding prevented the Cards from making it a game today.

Assuming Cal holds on to their 6-0 lead over Arkansas, we have our Super-regional matchups:

#16 Washington at #1 California

#13 Arizona at #4 Oklahoma

#14 Louisiana-Lafayette at #3 Arizona State

#11 Oregon at #6 Texas

#10 Georgia at #7 Tennessee

They announce the times and dates tomorrow morning.
