Michigan showing interest in LB Davion Rogers

Submitted by SanDiegoWolverine on
I search came back empty, so when I noticed Tim didn't mention anything about Davion Rogers possibly coming up for an official, I thought I'd post something. Apparently we were down there visiting his school recently. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4747388&name=Midwest… I don't think anyone around here would be upset if we stole another recruit from West Virginia.

If I were guessing, I would think Rich Rod doesn't expect the 27 we currently have (including Witty and the 3 silents) to all still be around come early February. One way or or another, I think we'll see some decommits, whether it's their choice or ours via the Dewayne Peace treatment.

During the last few weeks, prior to the "strong gut feeling" I was waiting to hear whether M or VT was going to start pursuing other LBs as an indication about Furman's decision since he already notified both schools. I have no reason to doubt Webb or any other indications that Furman is headed to Ann Arbor and since M hasn't even offered Rogers (per the link), I'm still not worried: "Michigan wants me to come up for an official visit too," Rogers said. "But they haven't offered [a scholarship]. If they offer, I'll visit there. They came to the school and saw my film and really liked it." This seems more like a back-up, Plan B type situation. Edit: But of course, we're happy have him too!

I think Furman is the better "physical specimen," if you wanna talk about recruits that way. Moreover, isn't Jefferson being recruited as a LB, too? Quite frankly, I'm a little annoyed that we focused so much on offense earlier in the recruiting process. I mean, I'm glad that we got some good offensive recruits, but the need is undeniably on defense. It would be a real shame to miss out on some of these defensive kids just because we gave the spot to a receiver. EDIT: To be fair, I just took a head count and I think we're at 11 commits offense, 11 on defense, and a punter. Nonetheless, I think it remains a priority to close this class with some strong defensive recruits. Also, kind of odd to only have 1 OL, but that should be fine as long as we pick up a few extra next year.

They don't, that's just been the prevailing interpretation on this board. Everything I've read so far seems to indicate signing 28 is a hard cap for the academic year, not the recruiting cycle. In other words, if we counted two EEs from the 09 to the 08 class we could sign 30 this recruiting cycle because we could count five enrollments to the 09-10 academic year. Obviously the 85 cap prevents us from enrolling 30, but that gives us wiggle room with non qualifiers.

Also don't forget former LB Diggs. Also numerous OSU players such as Clarett and Boom Herron. To be honest when Mich offer Williamson I was kind of stunned. I was not too pleased with the offer based on information locals have told me, they commonly refered to him as "a poor mans manningham." I saw Rio play countless times due to my girlfriend cheering at wgh when he was there, and you knew instantly he would be special. I didn't get the same feeling after watch Williamson initially, but after a few times I really began to like him. He has raw skill and needs sharpened up, but he can be a great college player.
