Michigan SB wins again, Central the victim today

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

The Michigan softball team outlasted Central Michigan University by a score of 3-0, today at Alumni Field.  It was the second straight day that Michigan beat a MAC team.  Game-time temperature was 60 degrees and sunny with the wind light and variable.

The offensive hero was Alycia Ryan.  She went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs with a HR in the bottom of the 6th.   Bree Evans went 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Jordan Taylor was on the rubber today.  She allowed only 1 hit while striking out  9 and walking only 1.  The Chips were not very "Fired Up" today.

A good defensive game today by both team.  The Chips made 2 double plays and Michigan did a great job fielding the bunts.  Overall a wonderful game to watch.

Dorian Shaw has been silent since opening the home stand.  Hutch moved her up in the line-up to the #3 slot so she would get better pitches to hit.  It didnt work as Dorian went 0 for 2 with a BB.

We travel to Champaign to play Illinois who are tied with us for first place in the Big 10.  This is a critical weekend series.

Seriously, when is MGoSoftball going to be required to tag things OT?  And when are we going to stop kidding ourselves and let the WNBA die?

Come on, I know some of you agree with me...

Good work as always MGoSoftball.  Thanks for these highly informative and well-written game summaries.  I feel slightly better-informed every time I read one of your posts.

Well they mercy ruled Toledo and then lost the second game, so that wasn't too fun.

The upside was I get out of my internship early for class, and it got cancelled so I got to see both games. Taco Bell and yelling at Toledo batters while she pitches the last few outs (she's a freshman, so while she's very talented, she rides the bench a lot) FTW.

I hear you bigtime.  I coached the club team at CMU for a few years while my daughter played there.  We had an awesome club team and qualified for Nationals although I could not get time off work.

One of the starting players for CMU varsity played summer ball for me years ago.  I was rooting for her to do well but pulling for a Michgan Victory.

CMU and Michigan has a real friendly rivalry.  It is nice to see the girls play for the love of the game.

the "Great Rain Game" (CMU/Michigan in 2006), I rooted for LaFevor as my daughter was lab partners with Dan.  What a wonderful young man.  I hope he does well in the NFL

My daughter was raised Blue so it was tough for her but she ended up wearing Chips gear while I wore my Blue.  My wife (her mother) wore both.

I actually was at that game too, as a freshman in high school, didn't quite know I'd be going to CMU yet but it was definatly one of my favorite games i've been too with the rain delay and that killer '06 team. LeFevour was a great college player that doesn't get enough recogintion, for sure rooting hard for him to make it big in the pros.

The long answer is that there are two major factors against most softball teams: class time and weather.

Most northern teams cannot get on their home fields until 01APR.  So the first half of the schedule are weekend tournaments in warm weather states, like Georgia, Florida, Arizona, Texas, and Cali.  The teams can come home late Sunday for Monday morning class.   Then  leave Friday, mid-day, to travel to tournaments.   During spring break, games are played every day in Florida.

Once the conference play begins, it is difficult to play those games during the week because of classes.  The closest Big 10 team is MSU, the second closest is tosu and they are 4 hours away.  So it is not practical to play Big Ten teams during the week.

So we play other D1 schools that are close during the week.  Eastern, Western, Central, Toledo, Ball State are all within a few hours drive.
