Why didn't we mercy them like Purdue?
From MGoSoftball's post, it sounds like we put in the reserves, so we had mercy on them ourselves instead of running the score & invoking the rule. Hutch was probably glad to let the reserves get the playing time.
"The game could have been ugly early but Hutch put the breaks on. She made changes early to allow the reserves players some reps."
did the right thing by playing the reserves. Hutch could have easily pushed many more runs across. However, these are good games to get everyone some love. It is more important to take a game to 7 innings and get everyone some hacks, versus getting a 5 inning mercy rule win.
We are tied with Illinois for 1st place in the Big 10. We travel to Champaign this weekend where Hutch will play only the starters and a few reserves.
i skimmed for the score and at first i thought it was 36-3. i was hoping we had mercied the mercy rule
Well the WMU pitcher was not pitching very well today. I did not have a radar gun but I would guess she was about 57 or 58 MPH with little movement. So the score could have been close to that had Hutch kept the starters in the game.
Good Job softballers. I like what you're doing
