This season, at least so far, the committee is really starting to lose my trust. I think they've gotten it exactly right the past two seasons, but these are some wacky rankings. I know that the members of the committee changed significantly in the offseason, hopefully this doesn't become a pattern. Obviously, the season will play out and four teams will clearly emerge (likely), but hopefully it doesn't end up shafting a deserving team

Until this season, I have had zero qualms about their rankings. So far this year they seem off on several teams. I have no idea what they're watching, or thinking.

That's not just in reference to Michigan, who I believe is the legit #2 team in the country, though Clemson makes a pretty good case as well. I can understand (to an extent) putting them ahead of us last week, this week not as much. But TAMU is just crazy high, FSU has three losses, and I think PSU is over rated.

You can't think several teams are too high, but not suggest which teams need to move up. If A&M is too high (which i agree with), then why is PSU overrated? PSU lost in a shootout to a major rival, got pounded by the #3 (arguably 1 or 2) team in the country, and theyre the only 2-loss team with a win over a Top 15 team. They may not pass the eye test, but PSU's resume suggests they could be as high as 7 or 8.

Penn State is not the same team that we blew the doors off of. The offense is clicking, the defense is much healthier and all that was apparent during the OSU game. Sure it took a blocked kick to take the lead but they were still playing OSU hard. I wouldn't take the Nittanies so lightly if they went up against either Oklahoma or Colorado.

am I the only one that thinks OSU should be ranked 4? Their only loss was a closely contested away game against number 10, they beat numbers 7 and 11, and lambasted Nebraska which was previously 8th. Washington is good but they haven't got the strength of schedule; all they got is 'unbeaten'.

Although I tend to agree, I am not entirely sure who you replace them with. Of all the 2-loss teams, A&M does seem the most competitive (or least competitive, depending on how you look at it).

The Big XII is so bad that I cannot place an OU or WVU team over A&M. Penn State? Meh...Colorado? Possibly. I don't know...The 2-loss teams all look pretty unremarkable to me.

People are still talking about Alabama being unbeatable after they didn't score until the 4th quarter? Would we do worse than they have done against Tennessee and Texas A&M two overrated teams?

At this point, shouldn't we be pulling for Alabama to go undefeated (except when they play us)?

As long as Alabama wins, they effectively freeze out SEC for the other three spots in the CFP. And even if Alabama loses, I think the chances are excellent that the CFP invites them ANYWAY.

Since there is no real chance that the CFP will award two spots to BOTH the SEC AND BIG, keeping only one SEC team (Alabama) in the CFP leaves open possibility for two BIG teams, OSU and Michigan.

So the winner of The Game clearly goes to the CFP. But the loser has a fighting chance if it's a close game and there aren't already two SEC teams in the CFP.

Given that, I THINK we actually want Alabama to win out the regular season at this point.

Yep certainly possible that winner of The Game loses to Wisconsin, which screws the BIG chances of two teams.

But if that doesn't happen, then winner of The Game (and if wins BIG championship) is assured a spot. But the LOSER of The Game might still have a shot in a close loss AND if the SEC doesn't already have two teams that are obvious contenders for the CFP.

And if Alabama loses at some point, I submit that the CFP is very likely to put whoever wins the SEC & one-loss Alabama in as two representatives of SEC before they would put in BOTH Michigan AND Ohio, regardless of outcome of The Game and BIG Championship.

But your point is well taken. For the BIG to have a chance of two teams at CFP, winner of The Game needs to win BIG Championship.  My point is just that Alabama needs to win out as well so that they win SEC Championship outright, and block a second SEC team from showing up to the CFP (which would likely preclude BIG sending two teams in ANY way).

It's funny how revising rankings only happens when it serves the narrative

Everyone is crediting Clemson and Texas A&M for beating Auburn because Auburn is lighting  it up now. Additionally, Texas A&M is getting credit for beating UCLA and Tennessee even though it's been revealed now that both are ass. No one is crediting us for beating #10 Penn State and #12 Colorado by 3 scores because they were unranked at the time.

The preseason narrative was that Clemson was awesome and Michigan was overrated and had a weak schedule so pundits are trying desperately to force reality into their poor preseason predictions

Not sure how the Committee values actual wins.  Here are the CFP wins for the top 10 teams:

  1. Alabama has beaten CFP #8,20,24,25
  2. Clemson has beaten #6,9,18
  3. Michigan has beaten #7,10,12
  4. Washington has beaten #15
  5. Ohio State has beaten #7,11,19 and lost to #10
  6. Louisville has beaten #18 and lost to #2
  7. Wisconsin has beaten #24 and lost to #3,5
  8. Texas A&M has beaten #9,25 and lost to #1
  9. Auburn has beaten #24,25 and lost to #2,8
  10. Penn State has beaten #5 and lost to #3

Only Clemson and Michigan have beaten two Top10 teams and Michigan's third win is better than Clemson's.  Seems that several teams are buoyed by beating LSU and Arkansas - seems that at some point LSU and  Arkansas will lose enough that those "good wins" might lose value.

The fact that Arkansas and LSU fill out the back end of the CFP rankings is just more SEC circle jerks so Bama and Auburn can show more top 25 wins. Neither team has any approaching a good win. LSU's best win is a 4-5 Ole Miss team.  Arkansas's best win is a 5-4 TCU team.  Not sure how that gets you a spot in the top 25.

We have wins against #7, #10, and #12.

Clemson has wins against #6

Michigan should be #2.

Also how the hell is Texas A&M still so high after losing to a bad team?

Looks like we have to beat Ohio State to prove our worth...

I'm not that dissatisfied with where we currently are. That being number two going into "the game" would give us a little buffer and make me feel a lot better.

Not sure if I'm setting myself up for disappointment at a potential loss...

I mean, we have to beat OSU to get in the playoff regardless so a lot of this bitching regarding Michigan's ranking is kinda meaningless....yet it's still super annoying.

An interesting subplot in all of this is say Michigan loses a close one to Ohio State and PSU, Colorado, and Wisconsin all win out. Or even if OSU beat Wisconsin again in the BTGC where do you put Michigan in the final rankings?

Where do we think Penn State or Utah or West Virginia would drop to with a similar loss? Almost assuredly down to the 15-20 range at best. I would love to hear the committee rationalize how a #4 losing to an awful Mississippi State team only drops them down to #8. Makes me think the committee is balls deep on the SEC.
