Michigan recruiting another DB

Submitted by JC3 on

Michigan continues to recruit both Armani Reeves and Yuri Wright at the cornerback position, but recently the coaches have been in contact with another cornerback, who in fact is committed to Tennessee.

Kenneth Crawley, a soft commit to the Volunteers, is 6"1 and 170 pounds. He's rated a four-star prospect by rivals. You can see his junior film here

Now, Crawley has been very ho-hum about this, but he admitted that Michigan, Michigan State, and Kansas all want him to visit. He seems very interested, but he's a respectful kid and doesn't want to talk about other schools while committed to UT.

Just something to keep an eye on!

1) it addresses UT's "policy", 2) it puts pressure on Dooley to double down in being an asshole or giving it up, 3) HS coaches, especially in the Saginaw area, would love a Michigan coach going the extra mile for a Michigan kid,

It ups the ante on the entire issue (if leaked) - UT can forget about pulling a kid from Michigan for a few years, and nationwide it could get legs and make Dooley look like even more of an asshat.

The kid's father is sick, for chrissakes

I'm on board with this, except for in my scenario we schedule Tennessee for whatever year is Arnett's senior year. Then we start him, and he catches 3 tds thrown by Shane Morris.

Because fuck Dooley, that's why.

This is not college basketball.  While I think you are on the right track, sitting Arnett for an entire bowl game?  Please.  That would be totally unfair to the kid.

Also, us vs. Tennessee in a bowl game?  He couldn't play next season.  Are we going to be that much worse without Denard / them that much better in 2-3 years?  Please.

And to be honest, Richardson has a better offer list than those three.

Most likely nothing will come from this (it usually doesn't, though on rare occassion situations like this, where a player flips, do happen, it is rarer than not).  Either way Michigan seems to be in good position with good recruits at the position.

I hope there's a ton of grumblings leading to decommitments and transfers at Tennessee due to the Arnett situation (unless the school changes course next week). If a kid wants to transfer out-of-conference, whatever the reason, you wish him the best and let him go. I know it's big business but this is not professional sports. I'd love to have Arnett transfer here but even if it's to State, I'd feel the same way...

hardship waiver to his rule. How can there be any positive in it for Tenn.?

If I were recruiting against them, I'd have copies of articles ready to pass out to prospective athletes and their parents. On top of it all, they still wear that gaudy color too.

I don't see how we don't take two, if they're the right two.

We were going hard after Yuri Wright, for good reason, when Standifer was still part of the class .. now without him, I don't see how we don't go after both Wright and Reeves, and another top DB for that matter.  I think we won't take 28 for the sake of taking 28, but if all goes perfect, I am guessing we end this class with OL: Garnett, TE: Grant, and 2DB: Reeves/Wright.

Agreed. We could easily use 12 db's to cover the cb/fs spots, (9 playing and 3 redshirting) and after next year Countess will be the most experienced kid in the backfield. We could do with 2 just for bodies, but we also need to have a little extra to increase the chance that one of them can be a solid starter after 2012.

Can Arnett transfer to Central or some scrub MAC school then immediately the next day say he is transferring to Michigan/State? Sit out this coming year (2012) and play the following year. Because if his dad is sick, apparently there is some NCAA waiver that would allow him to play this season. But if he signs his LOI to central michigan, and then changes to michigan for the sake of playing in the Big10, would they allow him to only sit out like a regular transfer?

I don't know for sure, but that seems possible. There are probably other hoops to jump through, so I don't know if he could do it. Theoretically, if this were possible, he could also appeal to the NCAA to waive his year off for "extenuating/familial circumstances" and play right away.

I'm not really sure what you're getting at, but the point of the  limitations is that if he (regardless of whether or not he says he's going to another school) ends up at MSU or UM, he'll have to pay his way for one year before he can get put on scholarship. However, his father doesn't work anymore because of his health and can't afford to just swing the money for one year.

He's also applied for the hardship waiver (or whatever it's called) which would allow him to play next year w/o sitting a year, which is, I think, what you're referring to. There is precedence for players applying and getting said waiver under similar circumstances. But whether or not he gets the waiver likely will have no impact on the college of his choice.

i doubt this is an option he would consider but can't he just not be enrolled at any college for 1 year and then go to U of M/MSU and get a schollie?  It would be cheaper than paying a full years tuition at U of M, and it isnt like he couldnt stay in shape somehow

1)  I believe this is Hoke's "fuck you" to the TEN coaching staff, not the other way around.

2)  Lloyd Carr would've let Arnett transfer to Kentucky.

How many scholarships do we really have at this point? We are at 24 right now, and I believe 28 is the limit (with 3 guys enrolling early). In that case, do we have room for 2 CB's, or for Danny O if he wants to switch?

Just saw on ESPN that Evan Goodman and Monty Madaris are expected in Ann Arbor on 1/13. Haven't read much about our chances with those 2. Any news? Or is it just that ESPN doesn't update/clean-up their databases as often?
