@AllenTrieu: Michigan has re-offered David Dawson and he will visit December 14.
I did not make this headline up
Weird? But good, I guess.
I think he was our most talented OL commit
Don't tell that to Magnus.
Balls they are a busted.
That's a phrase that makes me squeamish.
Or Fox. Could probably make an argument for Bosch too
it don't matter who is the best..together they will be a force
it gives me a warm feeling that there are 3 other players who can be argued over about this
Interesting. I wonder if this signals a shift in policy, or if Dawson didn't go behind the coaches' backs like we all assumed.
Either way, I'm sure there's a lot to this story that we don't know. I for one was always in his corner and would love to see him recommit.
I was in his corner too, where's my cookie?
StraightDave is currently in possession of it, and will give you it if Dawson commits to Maryland
Hope that was a sugar free cookie, what with your diabeetus and all.
Only 876? Maybe just on this blog... this year.
... Exhibit 1: Because he's a kid and trashing kids on the internet about their life decisions is moronic.
Exhibit 2:Because he's a kid and trashing kids on the internet about their life decisions is moronic.
Exhibit 3:Because he's a kid and trashing kids on the internet about their life decisions is moronic.
Exhibit 875: Because he's a kid and trashing kids on the internet about their life decisions is moronic.
Add to that the very recent loss of his father, and it moves a notch past moronic.
He also repeated the "ship has sailed" comment almost verbatim - that raised a flag, to my way of thinking.
I'm still betting someone with suspect intentions had his ear. I would like to think that he spoke to the staff (didn't someone post a tweet from the Recruiting Office, Warren Extension suggesting that?) and the entire scenario was examined, not just the picture envisioned by the bloggery. If Hoke and Co. are interested in doing the best for the athletes, young Mr. Dawson needs to be Blue.
The sad part is that twitter idiots talked shit to him when he didn't even pick another school, he was just looking!!!!
Come home David. The real fans still want you as part of the family.
I wish there was some way to get rid of the 1% of Michigan fans that are complete idiots. Unfortunately, they are a vocal 1% and many have Twitter accounts.
The great (or terrible) equalizer is that every fan base has that 1%, at least among the fan bases that care.
I love Twitter, but I swear the dumbest of people use it sometimes.
Being a bit generous with the “sometimes” aren’t you?
At least the dumb ones under 17 will shift their allegiance once they end up going to MSU. We're stuck with the older ones sadly.
I had SO much fun, re-reading this not-so-old thread...
he does it a second time.
I'm glad. Hopefully no bridges were permanently burned.
I kind of wondered if this was coming, just based on things he had been saying on twitter. I think he will end up blue.
Very weird. Interesting turnaround.
I'm surprised, but I think it's the right move. He's been through a lot more than has even been known publicly and I think he deserves a second chance to be a part of the class if he wants to, which I believe he does.
I wonder if there has been any reconciliation or remorse on DD's part? It would signal that there was a lesson learned and the coaches feel comfortable again taking his word.
Sounds like he and Hoke had a great talk. He still gets along with the rest of the class, so hopefully he'll feel like he's come home....again.
Even with what's known publicly, the kid lost his dad during what should have been one of the happiest, most exciting times of his life, and he probably lost one of his best advisers who could have steered him clear of the mess he ended up in.
Although it's hard to know from afar, this seems like a good decision, and I'm sure that other recruits will understand why an exception might be made.
Well said Turd. Losing a loved one especially a father is one of the toughest things a kid can experience.
never mind a kid, it's hard no matter how old you are. I lost my Father almost 3 years ago and I was 35. I went off the rails in a big way and even now, three years later at 38 years old I still have trouble even telling stories about him.
If I was David's age and lost my father I would have been an absolute mess. Hell, I didn't lose anyone when I was his age and I was an absolute mess. People need to give these guys a break. Whether they want to go to UM or not, people need to stop taking this recruiting stuff so personally. I mean, it's always nice when one picks us but is it really that horrible if one decides to go elsewhere? These aren't your girlfriends/boyfriends, they're allowed to look around and pick someone else.
I think it would be awesome if he chose UM but I am not going to harbour any ill will if he decides somewhere else offers him a better future.
is he an early enrollee? figured if this were to happen it would be a lot closer to signing day
I'd love to have him in this class, seems like a great kid. Hope we can get him.
Will be interesting with two other OL offers coming in town for a visit.. We take them all??
Nope, Tremendous just answered me on Twitter. Coaches only want 5 OLs, Dawson would be the 5th.
They've told all their commitments they're taking five OL in this cycle. That's been the story and it's something they wouldn't go back on with the kids who are currently committed.
I guess i'll take it as long as this kid does not pull anything if he does decide Michigan is his future home. I really did like him as a recruit and as an athlete so I am pleased with this "re-offer"
Cameron Hunt and Kenny Lacy are all like, "well, fuck."
Better show up real early on Dec. 14, boys.
I want him back, absolutely. I just hope the recruiting "policy" isn't undermined in the process.
The recruiting "policy" is stupid. And isn't much of a policy if it's broken twice in a week (further evidence that it's stupid)
I don't think the "policy" is stupid. It's pretty straightforward: if you make a verbal commitment to Michigan, the coaches expect that to be your final decision and that you don't look around at other schools. If, after making said verbal commitment, you decide you want to look around at other schools, that's fine but you will not be considered a part of our recruiting class anymore. That doesn't mean they will stop recruiting you, it just means they're going to continue to try to fill that spot with the best possible player; which could still include the decommitted prospect.
Hoke's new policy is "day to day", and leaves much room for interpretation
I don't know what is going on, but I like it.
Trieu says more to come on Dawson soon... It will probably be pay walled though.
The ship sailed. And has apparently returned to port?
