Michigan-Purdue Predictions

Submitted by LS And Play on

I think Michigan starts slow in this one, but pulls away in the 2nd half for a 79-63 win. Last night showed us there are no easy wins in the Big Ten, even at home against teams in the bottom half of the conference. Beilein will have them ready to go. Predictions?

Purdue is bad, Beilein seems to have learned how to get the team to play on the road lately, so I'm saying a sort of slow paced 72-57 game, with the result never really in doubt. Stauskas only gets 13 on a cold shooting night for our Canadian overlord, but the rest of the team more than makes up for it.

big wins over the last three games, a wounded Purdue team...I think this could be a bit of a lower intensity team in the first half.  But the boys kick it in high gear to start the second half and win fairly comfortably 77-66.

Purdue comes out all hyped up and hits a baziillion more threes than they should and leads by 5-10 at halftime. Michigan ends up clawing out a 3 pt win, 65-62

I think that's about it.

3 hyped-up games, two on the road, resulting in 3 W's... exhausting.

And then there's the relaxation factor...

I don't think we can take this game for granted. At all.

<what JB said.>

Will be rooting intensely.

Here's TeamRankings comparison of one of the more comfortable of our remaining games...

Offense
Purdue Michigan
Points/Game 74.3   77.3
Avg Score Margin +4.8   +13.0
Assists/Game 13.2   15.5
Total Rebounds/Gm 40.1   33.5
Effective FG % 47.6%   56.2%
Off Rebound % 35.5%   27.0%
FTA/FGA 0.392   0.358
Turnover % 13.8%   12.5%
Defense
Purdue Michigan
Opp Points/Game 69.5   64.3
Opp Effective FG % 45.9%   48.4%
Off Rebounds/Gm 12.6   7.7
Def Rebounds/Gm 23.9   22.9
Blocks/Game 5.8   2.9
Steals/Game 6.0   5.7
Personal Fouls/Gm 20.2   14.9

Looking at these, it has the feel of a 10-15 point victory for Michigan, especially since the game is here. I would think perhaps an 80-65-ish sort of score and we take the momentum down to Bloomington on Sunday.

I could get on board with that.  I really feel like Michigan may start the first few minutes slowly, but then just dominate most of the rest of the game.  17 points feels like a good winning margin, with the game never in doubt.

As long as we don't pull an Iowa and go on a 15 minute FG scoring drought.  Ouch.

Purdue takes a page from NW's book and slows us down. The Johnson's hit some ridiculous 3's, Hammons actually shows up, and Purdue holds Michigan to 60 points.

Michigan 60

Purdue 57

Ugly game, but a W is a W.

but my guess is that it will be 20-25 minutes into the game before we really establish control in this game.  Guys coming off a big stretch of tough, emotional games and cant' help but have read all of the press; might come out a little sluggish to start.

I am thinking Coach B learned his lesson against Penn State last year. At home against a team tied for #6 in the B1G? I say 80-62, UM. Go Blue!

A game that starts out sluggish, and we come out a little sloppy after three emotional, hard fought wins. The game stays a little closer than we'd like, with Purdue never seeming to go away and always being somewhere between 5-7 points down.

The guys settle down in the second half, and Stauskas has another big night. GRIII has an all-world dunk that sends Crisler into a frenzy, and the game busts open from there.

81-65 good guys.

Glad there were 2 "upsets" last night bc Beilein and the kids are gonna know it can happen to them as well. Hopefully they won't look past these guys and crush em.

Due to Michigan's success, and Per Purdue's lack of success, UM pursues Purdue's overproduction into overtime, but then both teams return to their wont, and UM to a win.

And it's not that close. Purdue's offense is slower than Atlanta traffic until garbage time. Wolverines start fast to defiantly prove that they are not Buckeye/Badger home-upset patsies.

did you mean "defiantly" or "definitely?"  Either could work, I suppose, but "definitely" definitely seems to make more sense.
