Michigan Pro Day Results

Submitted by DCGrad on

In addition to the earlier thread about Jake Butt, I found this article about the pro day today.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000795088/article/pro-day-results-…

Highlights include:

Bill Belichick stopped by to evaluate.

Taco ran a 4.83 (combine time was 4.92) and looked good in coverage

Ryan Glasgow did 24 reps of 225 (20 at the combine) and discussed playing offense with teams

Jourdan Lewis ran a 4.45 (combine time was 4.54) and discussed the domestic violence allegations at length with teams.

Many players "stood" on their combine numbers and didn't participate in drills as much as they talked to team representatives.

Pro day times are usually faster due to home field advantage/favoable testers, but the article seems to believe that many players held their own or improved their stock.

Some NFL scouts believe there could be 20+ Wolverines from this class in NFL team camps this summer.

Right!  I remember a story that Briget Moynahan told to Conan O'Brien years back.  She was talking about Brady (her BF at the time), and said she thought he was slow because of the NFL reports of him being slow as dirt.  Said she was athletic, thought she was fast, and challenged him.  Then she laughed about how fast he really was.

Some NFL players may be slow as compared to other world class professional athletes, but not to regular humans.

Fox Sports ran a 40 yard dash challenge in Nashville and only one person broke a 5.0 and he was a former college baseball player an the fastest on his team.

The article suggests that if you're under 6' tall and can dunk, you can probably run under a 5.0 forty.

In HS I ran a generously timed 5.1 40 and was one of the fastest non-skill players.    I probably run a 6.5 at this point.  The kid who returned 10 kicks/punts for TDs of 50+ yards ran a 4.9 and made people look silly.

4.29 was his short shuttle time which was better then Darboh. and .05 slower then J.Lewis. and his 3 cone was 7 seconds which J.Lewis was 6.88. So he is more quick in a small space back with no break away speed or speed to really get him 20 yard runs or more. HE was our starter and crunch time back it seemed so does that say alot about what we have our did he just know the offense that much better then every one else. Let's hope he knew all phases of the offense better then everybody else.

Most of the guys who run on a pro day are running because they put up an abnormally bad time at the combine as compared to their usual performance.

4.82 40 at nearly 300 pounds. He weighed in bigger and ran faster than Taco Charlton, and Charlton is almost certainly going to be a 1st round pick. I wonder if Wormley could sneak into the 1st round.

Lions should take Peppers and then move up to get Taco or vice versa then Take Jordan Lewis in 2nd rd or 3rd depending how it shapes out. Then grab Glasgow later and Hill in the 6th or 7th rd. He would be a good special teams player right away and develop into a good safety after a year and he has some speed also. Also would love Wormley as a Lion also if they could get him. Get Taco Peppers Lewis Wormley Glasgow and Hill. Is that to much love for Michigan players?

I know their are better players then some of the Wolverines but If they are the best players on their board at the time of their draft pick it would be cool. There are alot of players I want the Lions to get but it isn't possible and we don't have enough picks. But I do think Taco Peppers Lewis Wormley or Glasgow would be great picks for the lions.

I didn't see anything on Dymonte Thomas and thought he might run well enough to at least get a camp invite? Any word?

This was quite a nugget:

» Jabrill Peppers (5-11 1/8, 214) stood on all of his numbers from the combine. he was worked out as a safety and cornerback. I've felt for a long time that his best position might be running back.

Mayock has a weird view of Peppers as a RB.  He's the only guy I've seen on a national stage saying this as far as I've read, and while I get it on some level, if I'm an NFL team I'd rather have that athleticism in my secondary (where it might be available for years) than in the meat grinder that is RB where he hasn't played consistently at any level.

I can't disagree that Peppers is a good athlete, but he's not that outstanding for a defensive back. His 40 time, jumping ability, etc. don't stand out as "wow" type of numbers. Now he might have been faster if he wasn't 213 lbs. at the Combine, but that combination of power, speed, and change of direction is very valuable at running back, too.

Id be shocked if the Lions passed on any LB at 21 with a first round grade. My money is on the wlb from Temple to replace Levy. If there are no LBs worth taking then I could definately see Taco if hes there. Their second biggest need behind LB is on the DL and a pass rush from the weakside would be enticing.

They will be taking a safety at some point. Glover is entering his last contract year. But I would guess fourth round or later.
