Kordell Stewart picked UM as the No. 5 team in his rankings on ESPNEWS right now. Yes, my jaw did drop.
He also said he was trying to make friends with people in AA nowadays.
not shocking at all
Top five? He apparently has not seen our defense. Though, I guess - has anybody? It seems to be MIA.
Agreed. Our Offense seems set to get even better next year but you have to be concerned for the D next year. No depth in secondary and LB and not a lot of bluechip recruits committed so far. Hopefully RR can rectify that before signing day.
I mean, not to be a Debbie Downer or anything, but Kordell: our defense? Is Donovan Warren, Brandon Graham and Craig Roh.
Not to be down on the team, I think we're in for a pretty good season and a fun ride this year, but give it another year, okay?
Troy played an excellentr game today. He's played pretty well this season. just my two cents
That's true, I should give credit where credit is due. I think he also had a decent game on special teams, IIRC.
We are the last team to beat the defending national champions Florida..and RR was at that game!
Didn't Ole Miss beat them last year? You know it lead to the whole Tebow speech being engraved on the wall...But if you mean the last non SEC team then yes!
Last season never existed for me, so I do not know what you are talking about! :)
I think of last season every day, because it makes this year that much sweeter. We've only avenged ourselves against one team that beat us last year. Michigan State, Purdue, Ohio State, Penn State. More revenge is in order.
No question that we've got a good team, and that we'll be at top 5 team...in time. One year at a time.
....Colorado was in his top 20.....
We need a moratorium on this kind of crap, and just focus on bashing heads.
Next year we can FUCK.SHIT.UP.
This year I'm focusing on healing all of the liver damage from last year.
If I am not mistaken, he picked the Michigan/Indiana game next week as one of the top 5 games to watch on ESPN.
As much as I am a honk for the beloved maize and blue and RR, I think he might have taken a few too many hits to the head.
If they get through PSU and are undefeated then we can start to talk about the subject.
I kept scouring the screen to find some qualification of "top 5", like, "top 5 teams w/ explosive QBs", "top 5 most improved teams"... and was shocked that it was jus the "Top 5" period. I think we're really good, but top 5 is a bit optimistic. Especially - as other posters have noted - in light of our defense which has been cringeworthy thus far. (Although to their credit, the past 2 weeks they've stepped things up in the 2nd half after a horrible start.)
Is a fact, hell in my opinion MSU is a bigger hill then PSU have to get by MSU before we can worry about Joe Pa.
Agreed. Watching Cousins and co. in action today... I think MSU will be very tough hill to climb. Can't even think about PSU at this point.
and there were a lot of highlights in that game. This team generates big plays - they'll be a favorite of the sports shows all season if they can keep it up. But the suits in the studio don't see all those 7 yard Huron gains, just the Carlos Brown run and Denard jetting to the end zone.
Agree with everyone else. The future looks bright, but we are definitely not there yet.
Yeah, it's fun to watch this team, but we aren't there yet as others have said.
The great thing about our start is that it alleviates some of the anti Rich Rod chatter. With continued growth, we'll win enough to get to a decent bowl game and then be in a position next year to make another leap forward. The key point is that by winning, RR will ensure he is around long enough to do his thing. Really like the direction the team is going.
I see our defense losing us a game before the freshman in Forcier rears it's head. MSU is not going to be an easy game. Top 5??? NSFMF. Top 15? Maybe.
Please tell me OSU isn't going to move up cause of USC?....
Dr. Saturday had us at number 4 on his Blogpoll ballot this past week, I believe. His rankings are very much a "what have you done for me lately?" kind of deal though, so knocking off a good ND team is what propelled us up so far.
But considering how teams are dropping games like it's 2007, I wouldn't be stunned to see us bounce up again this week.
