Michigan Offers still Open

Submitted by StephenRKass on

I happened to glance at the 2012 offer board, and it appears mostly up to date. However, with Ringer (happily) remaining, and Clark becoming a 2012 commit, this thins the remaining spots available.

I'm curious if there ever is information that an offer has been pulled, or that an offer has contingencies attached. Obviously, there isn't anything like enough room for all the remaining open "offers" to commit.

For instance, as regards open offers, in areas where we have many commits (linebackers?) would we still accept a commitment? Tight ends? Do we keep offers open in case one of the current commits changes their mind?

And regarding contingencies, do we wait for Banner or Garnett to make a decision (before accepting a commitment from another offensive lineman?)

It often is said that you always make room for a five star commitment, but at some point, there just isn't room for everyone who wants to join the team.

Threadjack (sorry SRK), but does anyone know how many scholarship athletes have no more eligibility after 2012? So basically does anyone know the number of RS sophomores and true juniors currently on scholarship?

REDSHIRT FRESHMEN = 7 (Final season 2014)

SOPHOMORES = 10 (Final season 2013)

REDSHIRT SOPHOMORES = 10 (Final season 2013)

JUNIORS = 5 (Final season 2012)

REDSHIRT JUNIORS = 12 (Final season 2012)

[edit:  this was in response to justin go blue, and is redundant info with the other posts already up.]

According to depth chart by class (http://mgoblog.com/content/michigan-depth-chart-class-0) there are 14 scholarship seniors, not counting walk ons. Heninger and McColgan are listed as walk ons, so don't don't against scholarships. (there are several other senior walk ons.)

Obviously, we don't know which current redshirt juniors won't be renewed for a fifth year. We know, for instance, that Kovacs will be back, and Roundtree, and Demens, and Floyd. There are several others who have not seen the field who either may choose not to come back, or may not be asked to come for a fifth year.

You also have to figure in that just because a recruit is listed at a position, doesn't mean he will end up there.  I believe there are several D-Line recruits and a TE that may end up at LB if needed, and recruit Arik Armstead may be on defense but is listed as an OT,
