Michigan Offers Julian Barnett, with a Twist?

Submitted by Youngharbaugh4 on

The dead period is over, and one offer to go out today was for 2019 4Star in-state ATH/WR Julian Barnett out of Bellville (Same school of 5 star Devontae Dobbs). This is an interesting offer because of how long it took for the staff to extend it. Because of the slow play on michigans part and Barnetts lack of camping, he ended up committing to MSU. But, the twist in this offer was from Pass game coordinator Pep Hamilton who was the coach that offered him. Given the rumors of Pep possibly heading to the NFL, it would seem odd for him to be out recruiting. In the links below are 2 (VIP) twitter posts from Sam Webb. Although they are paywalled, the titles themselves are interesting enough, and provide a decent amount of information.

Who in the NFL will give Pep a coordinator job? I don't think Pep is going anywhere. He has 3 yrs and over 3 million left on his contract, so he won't be fired, and unless someone matches that, which, after what he has done at Michigan and Cleveland doesn't seem very likely.

Without the water. Some people only know they want Pep gone because of what they’ve heard without proof though, that Pep was in charge of the offensive concepts. When you have people calling for the mans job, when you know our oline was patchwork at best, is lunacy. With your third string QB, thrust into action. There’s no one on this board that could’ve done better. Wanna no why? Our own beloved, head coach couldn’t figure it out either. But Pep Hamilton was in charge of protecting the QB, to adapt to his pass schemes? Some people are a little ill in their manner of thinking. Success at any level and especially college level, you must have a functioning oline. No coordinator in the world could’ve fixed that!

People believe what they want to believe. I’ll say this to you. Today there have been people saying that Pep, should’ve adapted to the personnel that he was working with. A no brainer. However, in stating that fact they’re saying that even if the Prince of Wales was blocking. Pep Hamilton is at fault for having the worst passing numbers since our beloved Rick Leach. Hey whatever you feel is fine. I️ just laugh at some ideas because you just can’t have one without the other. It’s unfathomable how anyone can truthfully believe that $?)/

He's been highly-regarded before so sure there are still at least some who think the same today. I'm hardly a Pep stan but I'm sure he has his supporters. Who was going to light it up in Cleveland anyway?

Also Norv Turner just got hired as OC and Gruden got 100 mil in this the good year 2018. The NFL doesn't always require recent success.

Attitude, means? Reread it please. And yes he knows that Pep would never be hired again. So, you’re correct he only stated that he would never be hired again in the NFL.(lol). Just as well as another poster stated earlier that everyone wanted Pep gone. I’m not sure if you understand some of the words but everyone in here has not expressed that they wanted him gone. Sorry about the conjecture.

So we have Pep out recruiting when everyone wants him gone and he’s entertaining returning to the NFL but we can’t finalize a deal for Partridge and get our best recruiter out there? Not to mention we are offering someone we should have offered quite a while ago. With the last few weeks of recruiting upon us I just can’t help but shake my head at what’s going on. The offense needed a major overhaul, not bring in a wr coach and a tight end coach and jack with the defensive side of the ball

I would think Gruden wants his staff to come together quickly and get a head start on other teams who have yet to even hire a head coach. While it is not definite, it is starting to look like both Pep & Drevno will be back.

But I'd be thrilled if both Pep and Drev stick around. Give the young players another year in the same system with a dedicated WRs coach and I think the offense will take a huge step forward next year. It's crazy to me how many people disregard the impact of coaching stability and simultaneously complain about how stunted our team's development has been since coach Carr retired.

It was meant to be a generalization.

I think - in general - that the board respects the value of multiple years in the same system.

Likewise - in general - a significant portion of this board is screaming for changes.

That’s my point. Sure, I don’t know that those 2 groups truly ever intersect. But I didn’t realize anyone was going to fact check!

And yes, my life is fuller and more rewarding than you’d probably guess. Hope yours is the same!
