Michigan offers Jon Reschke
Received a scholarship to the Unniversity of Michigan this weekend
7:40pm - 18 Nov 12
I can't do those fancy twitter embeds.
we have been laying in the weeds the whole time...
Reschke is a legacy to State. This is more likely to lead to a twitter of him burning his offer letter than another commit.
On another note.....with Fitz hurt, perhaps seriously and our roster loaded with RB's who are either too small or too big and slow on the RB depth chart, and Derrick Green giving no real tell as to what he's thinking....at what point does our coaching staff maybe chase another 4/5 star, possibly from a team losing a coach.
Is anyone really comfortable with our RB situation if Fitz can't go in the fall.
Shane Morris is pretty pumped about it, too. I love Shane's enthusiasm.
I'm confused by this offer. Why would we do this?
I have done business with his dad. Very good guy.
cool story bro
"Cool Story Bro" is sooooo 2008. Are we ever going to retire this tired, ex-meme?
Reschke tweeted it himself and he also texted TomVH and confirmed it with him.
Makes me wonder if the rumors about a certain player in Ohio are true. Reschke might be a tough pull though he has been a spartan commit for a while. I guess we will see how much pull Shane has with one of his best friends.
...which certain player would that be?
McCray. And our old friend does not believe McCray is going anywhere from personal communications with him.
but that is too obvious and not and LB, so maybe he's talking about McCray. Really hope that is not the case.
Hard to make sense of this offer outside of a likely McCray decommit. I certainly hope that's not the case. With the LB recruiting we've had in the last two cycles, I would have thought the coaches would look elsewhere to fill scholarships.
I saw both of them coming out of the Junge Center as I was walking into the stadium for the game this weekend. McCray was walking with all of the other recruits.
For what it' worth, and I know it may be little. Mike McCray was in the MDen on State Street, up by Ben and Jerry's and everything there right after the game. I asked him about coming to Michigan and he said he was excited to get up to Ann Arbor. Take it with a grain of salt, but I just thought I'd share.
Could mean some unexpected attrition, or literally nothing.
I admire your willingness to go out on a limb.
Perhaps he's been watching JMFR all year?
McCray has reaffirmed his commitment; the rumors about him and OSU are not true. This could be Reschke reaching out to the staff or an issue one of the current linebackers on the team
In other news, I recently offered Scarlett Johansson the opportunity to date me. Probably gonna turn out the same way for me that offering Reschke will for UM. We'd have as much luck offering one of the Bullough family tree.
I think we've actually done that too.
No harm in trying I guess. Never know how a player will chose
Sam Webb says it doesn't have to do with McCray. I think the staff just wants Reschke because he is a great LB commiting to a program that is a sinking ship.
Great point, thought the same thing when I saw the offer. Hoke going after in-state talent committed to a struggling MSU seems like a very smart thing to do.
Reschke decommitment to Sparty after the "Caleb Bennenoch Affair" = Kill Shot
I need someone smarter than me to explain this offer.
really easy shots to be had here... but im above all that
Hey, I invited them. Fire away!
I know. That is why I am asking someone smarter than I to explain the offer. I don't undertand why we would do this.
I kidding haha. I don't know why either.
As a dumb guy, I'll take a shot.
First and foremost, there's very little cost to saying, "Hey, if you want to come, we'd love to have you." It's not like that takes a lot of time or resources.
As far as positive reasons to do it, maybe...
- they just saw his 2013 film and thought he looked great.
- they got some indication that he's more interested than they thought. That could have come from Shane, from Reschke himself, or anyone/anything else.
- they just want MSU to have to do some defensive recruiting (of their own kids).
- they've reevaluated the current roster and think a free spot should be used at LB.
- a current player isn't likely to stick around for the long run.
- they're protecting themselves against the possibility of an LB decommit.
- they want to make friends at Brother Rice.
- they want to piss off Dantonio & co.
Bottom line: We have no idea why, but it's a low-cost move that could be justfied by a lot of different beliefs or scenarios.
I'll take "D: All of the Above"
"I am asking someone smarter than 'myself' not 'I'". When referring to the subject ("I") of a sentence, it becomes the reflexive ("myself") pronoun.
/sorry, old habits die hard.
His usage was correct. "Than" is a conjunction, separating two clauses or sentences. In this case, the sentence is assumed to be this: "I am asking someone smarter than I (am). "I" is the subject of the second clause. "Myself" is actually frequently overused by people who feel like they're making a mistake using "me" or "I. While it is often true that when you yourself are the object of the verb, it should be "myself," this is not always true. Sometimes, "me" is the right choice.
Unless one of us are on the staff, we won't be able to give anything but a guess. My guess is that one of the back-up linebackers is leaving. Since Ross and Bolden are playing on D already, maybe it's RJS or Ringer. Poole would be another guess. Pure speculation
Why would Ringer leave after a RS year when he injured his knee? But this speculating is fun! Maybe JMFR is going pro?
Yea, I can't see any reason why he hasn't had any playing time. Same with Countess and Wormly! Like wtf, they should be gettng reps... I hear all 3 of them are gonna transfer, and to be honest, I dont blame em.
I don't see Poole receiving much playing time and I've wondered about Ringer as well. Two more years of JMFR and Morgan, plus three of Ross and Bolden and incoming talent.....someone is going to go.
isn't going anywhere. Watching him on special teams, he's very much into the game. Admittedly it's very little to go on, but he's quick twitch athlete who isn't afraid to hit. I think he's going to be very good eventually
It's certainly not Royce Jenkins Stone, so you can put that to rest. Baseless speculation is the absolute best!
The coaches told the currently committed linebackers that they would not pursue other linebackers, which is why they didn't go after EJ Levenberry, Shane Jones, etc. I think it's pretty clear this has to do with a guy who's looking around.
If this is true, why not reach out to Levenberry? I remember he and his father reaching out to Michigan a few months ago. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the recruiting office.
Or unexpected attrition. What if Jones and Gordon are expressing not coming back for their 5th years or a guy like Poole is thinking of leaving or his injury is not healing. The situation could have changed quite a bit since the spring.
Until I get better evidence, I'm gonna go with Sam Webb's sources (who say this has nothing to do with McCray) over your "pretty clear" speculation.
Can we please not start a bunch of "OMG, McCray is leaving" stuff until we get at least a little evidence that McCray might leave? The kid himself has been really adamant that he isn't going anywhere.
That's fine. It's not necessarily because of McCray.
As in it likely isn't because of an impending current player departure?
Do you think a current player could be considering a transfer?
There are a couple possibilities, but I haven't seen/heard anything definitive.
With his Spartan family legacy he isn't going to switch, but with Sparty fighting just to go a bowl game why not offer? What do we have to lose?
They know they aren't getting Reschke (or at least understand it is a huge long shot). But Brother Rice puts out good talent (including Reschke) and by not even offering that can look back to future prospects from that school. Sometimes you get your name in there more for future prospects than the one actually offered.
Again, not bashing Reschke or saying Michigan doesn't want him at all, but from my understanding he and his family have a long standing relationship and love for MSU, so this seems more like an offer for the future than anything else.
Reschke is probably our 2nd strongest commit and does alot of recruiting. His dad is also a Spartan and said during his recruitment that he'll have a big say in where Jon goes.
I presume he was not involved with the "Caleb Benenoch Affair".
Also, nice to see your people acknowledge reality over at RCMB...
You should've seen T-Pain's post after said Caleb Benenoch affair. One of the RCMB-ers saved it as his sig, something like "The Caleb Benenoch decommitment is a mortal blow to our football program"
I found it extemely fitting of RCMB that in the same thread they ogle over Reschke's girlfriend.
never change, RCMB. You are perfect just the way you are.
I mean... I'd say the dude is doing pretty well for himself.
Reschke's Girlfriend....who's presumably in HS
And there's only 1 or 2 posts saying they shouldn't be ogling High Schoolers....(with even someone pointing out the Age of Consent in Michigan)
Dammit, this made me go to RCMB to enjoy some possible sparty schandenfreude, but I almost forgot what a godforsaken tire fire it is over there. It makes me appreciate the MGoMods all the more.
Credit to your RCMB posters for not panicking (much) but this wins out:
Payback for us recruiting David Dawson. They'll probably try to sleep with all our moms too.
Yeah, I don't see a flip. I honestly think this is just a "no fear" political type offer. Go after one of your rival's top recruits kind of things whether or not its actually important you get him.
He's bestfriends with Shane Morris, FWIW.
Then Morris might have tipped off the coaches that Reschke has a strong interest in UM.
I still don't think Reschke flips, but he has not closed the door to UM either. I believe VH stated in the past that Reschke had legitimate interest early and was disappointed an offer never came.
Cass Tech prospects > anyone at BR. Defend our home turf, and keep everyone out of CT.
How exactly does a phone call to Jon Reschke prevent us from "defending our home turf"?
And Cass Tech is great, but I'd rather not have an 85-man roster of Cass Tech grads.
Cass Tech's 2014 linebackers aren't that great.
You're an arogant ass and you dont know everything. Get over it already
but it's not exactly like we're getting great results from CT players in recent years
Crazy idea, but Jake is 3rd year and clearly a top LB talent. Please tell me to shut up and take my Prozac.
Shut up and take your Prozac.
when the Prozac and Jack D wear off. I wish Steve Everitt was here to pummel my head until such thoughts completely disappeared.
Isn't he being projected as a DE and not a LB?
He's projected to MLB. Max Bullough's heir apparent.
In MSU world, have there been any whispers that Reschke might be looking around? Did this come totally out of nowhere?
Its very strange. I don't think he's wavering on his commit at all, he's one of our strongest commits and his dad is a Spartan.
Would things change if Narduzzi left?
Exactly my first thought as well. Perhaps Michigan's staff is hearing the rumblings of potential jobs offers for Narduzzi. Just a thought.
Taking that "Necessary Roughness" on the road to Mount Pleasant.
Chippewas might as well go Sparty fail twice.
If recruits were hearing about Narduzzi possibly leaving, I think there are other recruits before Reshcke that would leave. Demetrius Cooper is probably the one most likely to decommit if something major happens, he never sounded too sure when he made his commitment, and the now #1 Team in the country was going after him hard.
Would be surprised if either of our lb's were looking around
How do you know this?
Is it me or does it seem like MSU always has a large number of legacy guys? Maybe we do too and I'm not noticing it (we have had Troy Woolfolk and Braylon Edwards), but it seems like there's a recruit like this every year for MSU. It'd be nice to nab him.
Any chance the coaches and McCray decided he is a better fit at WDE during his visit the weekend? Could open the door for another MIKE.
Any further word on Morgan's concussion? I never dismiss the head injuries these days. I certainly hope he's OK.
If we're trying to poach MSU recruits I hope we give a call to Shane Jones too.
All your linebacker recruits of 4 stars are belong to us
All 3 Bulloughs to transfer to Michigan?
FWIW, there are some quotes floating around from Reschke today. The basic message is, "Let's talk about this later. I want to focus on my state championship run."
I like where this might be going.
I wouldnt get too worked up about it. The kid has a huge game coming up and probably just wants to concentrate on that alone. There is more going for MSU than UofM at this point.
Treadwell is out of there. If I were a recruit and the D-co was leaving, I'd think twice.
As long as we're starting rumors
Narduzzi, treadwell the off coord left a couple years ago for some MACtion. Miami, iirc.
moments when you're thinking of someone and you confuse them with someone else and then you post it on the internet before figuering out your mistake. That.
I bet it was the 60 Minutes piece that made him look around.
Mike McCray is an Ohio legacy, so why is Reschke untouchable?
That's an explanation that makes sense.
Might be that Michigan thinks he can play SAM. If RJS isn't a SAM, and it looks like he isn't, and McCray isn't 6'4", they need one.
Why would you say he isn't a SAM?
Because RJS came in weighing 212 pounds, is 6'2, and I think we burned his RS. McCray is also about 6'1-6'2 and the coaches might be concerned that neither player can put on the appropriate weight to play the position. SAM is supposed to be nearly identical to WDE with the SAM being a little smaller and faster so he can cover. Isn't Jake Ryan already around 245-250? He will probably add on some more weight for next season.
How big does Mattison like his SAM backs? Jon Reschke is 6-2 230ish
From what I've heard, Jenkins-Stone has been getting reps mostly at inside linebacker. I'm not sure if it's because of the weight or his skills or whatever, but maybe the coaches just don't see him as a SAM. From what I've seen of him on special teams, his body type looks more like a MIKE. Of course, body type doesn't mean everything...
He's good at football... he deserves it. Go Blue Jon.
So junior film. He played DE then, I think he played LB this year.
He did play LB this year. His senior film is also on Youtube, though I don't have the link right now.
I always knew that Al Borges was a sex machine.
I think that Reschke would be a great pickup but would be shocked if he decommitted from State. He was one of the first guys in their class, a legacy and has been recruiting guys to State like Shane has been doing for us. This would be a huge blow to Sparty.
That's my friends nephew... No way in hell he picks Michigan. Huge huge state fans.
"No way in hell" is probably right.
However, maybe Reschke wants to play for championships, coaches that truly place player safety & character as top priorities, and teammates not mired in excuses & public vitriole. Maybe an 18-year old wants independence from a legacy.
If no way in hell is 1000-to-1 odds, I'll put $10 on hell.
Don't know how Dantonio sells Sparty as a "program on the rise" at this point.
Given Ohio and Michigan's recruiting dominance....meet the new boss...same as the old boss.
Surely, Jon Reschke can see this.
The kid is best friends with Shane. The offer does seem a little out of the blue and random. Perhaps Shane tipped off the coaches that if there is a need at LB that flipping Reschke wouldn't be impossible.
Something just doesn't add up in regards to offering a Spartan legacy just for the hell of it.
At least that is my e-pinion.
If he can be turned he would be a powerful addition.
