Michigan offers Cass Tech S Jaylen Kelly-Powell

Submitted by Magnus on

It seems like kind of a slow news day, so I'll throw this "breaking news" item out there.

Michigan offered Cass Tech safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell today. He's a 2017 kid whose other offers are from a few MAC schools and Northwestern. He's one of two 2017s out of Cass Tech that Michigan has offered so far, joining WR Donovan Peoples-Jones. There were will probably be more, too.

Saw "Jaylen," thought post related to Jaylen Brown, was briefly confused/excited, read rest of name, thought, "Okay, well, that's something."

Smash Bros. Melee veterans (GameCube) are well aware that Captain Falcon's flying knee attack is a standard combat, yet oddly and insanely overpowered, move. I had friends who would both pick captain falcons and do nothing but attempt to knee each other every single match.

He looks very instinctive and aggressive. He's not afraid to stick his nose in the middle of the action. It looks like he can diagnose a play quickly and get in a good tackling position.

As with most sophomores, he needs more strength at the point of attack. That's something a weight room can fix. If he has a big Junior season, his recruitment will blow up.

that had not signed an LOI do to grade issues?  I forget his name, but Michigan expressed some issue assuming he could get a qualifying test score.

What's the deal with hyphenated last names at Cass Tech?!? Was there a wave of strong feminist women sweeping through Detroit in the late 1990s?

He looks like a strong safety to me. He's listed at 6'0", 183 lbs., but that's highly questionable unless he really grew and packed on some weight since the end of the season. Even so, he looks like he's going to be a pretty thick kid and I don't know if he has the coverage skills to play corner at a big-time level.

Hey Magnus, quick question for you.

Any idea on who the Grad transfer WR is? Possibly being finalized in the next couple days?

I really think 2017 is the class that has the potential to be number 1 overall in the NCAA. 2017 is the first class where the staff is ahead of the curve, not behind. Our staff has time to cultivate the type of relationships necessary to bring in the top notch recruits Harbaugh and company seek. I think 2016 has potential to be top 10 if the numbers swell into the 20's, but 2017 should see dominance in recruiting.
