Michigan Offers 2016 RB Kareem Walker And Others

Submitted by MJ14 on

Just received a offer from University of Michigan #TrulyHonored #GoBlue 〽️

— Ree〽 (@_KareemWalker) January 9, 2014

His sophomore year highlight video looks pretty good. 6'1" 195 pounds. He has good speed, he breaks arm tackles, and he falls forward after contact. He has offers from West Virginia, Penn State, and Rutgers already. Roy Manning has visited him a few times, so I would guess Manning would be his lead recruiter. He is class of 2016.

Kareems sophomore year stats: 115 carries for 1164 yards and 12 touchdowns. That's good for 10 yards per carry.

ESPN Jr. 300 DE Jaen Dalton (Clemmons, N.C.) offered by Michigan today. No. 158 in 2015.

Michigan also offered Jalen Dalton who is in ESPN's top 300 Juniors. He is a defensive end from North Carolina.

#Michigan has offered 2016 Traverse City (MI) West offensive lineman Thiyo Lukusa: http://t.co/cHx9EJUpaa

Michigan has also offered in state lineman Thiyo Lukusa. Also from the 2016 class, his measurables right now are: 6'5" and 300 pounds as a sophomore in high school. His crystal ball has 4 predictions that all say Michigan. Those predictions are from our very own Ace, Brandon, Steve(aquaman), and Anthony Mammel. Ferrigno and Funk are Thiyo's main recruiters. He holds offers from Michigan State and Wisconsin.

His highlights are here: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2220238/thiyo-lukusa

Michigan has also offered Juval Mollette. He was offered by OSU back in October I believe. Right now the crystal ball predicts him 100% to UNC, and he is from NC. He's a big receiver at 6'4" and 190 pounds. Reportedly runs a 4.6 40 yard dash. He is class of 2015 and is a 4* recruit. We'll see if he has any reaction to Nussmeier being hired.

His highlights are here: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/563314/juval-mollette

The last news I have to offer is that Jeff Jones crystal ball now predicts him to Michigan. We'll see how well his visit goes and how much Nussmeier being hired affects him.

If we can add Lukusa to our OL haul for 2016 with Swenson, then that would be a great start to that class's OL. Both of them seem like they will be great tackles in the future.

I tried to find as much info as I can. His freshman team played Don Bosco, Paramus Cathloic, among the other elite teams and beat them. Like I said, just the freshman squads, but then Kareem played varsity this year and averaged 10 yards a carry in his sophomore season. I would venture to say he will be a top 5 guy in state if he stays healthy.

Actually they played Paramus, Don Bosco and all of them this year. Kareem was the top running back for Depaul. I just found his stats for those games. Here they are:

His team finished 10-2. Kareem had 9 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown against Paramus Catholic. Good for 13 ypc against Jabrill Peppers and JBB's team. He finished the game with 164 all-purpose yards and one touchdown. Again this is against Jabrill Peppers team.

Against Don Bosco Prep(team Jabrill Peppers transfered from, one of the best teams in NJ, loaded with D-1 guys every year, where Blake Countess came from). Kareem had these stats: 17 carries for 72 yards for 4.2 yards per carry. He finished this game with 98 all-purpose yards and 0 touchdowns. His team won by 10 points and he was the leading rusher.

Like I said, this was just his sophomore season and his first as varsity running back. So I have to think he's one of the top guys in his class in NJ, maybe even the country. His team finished ranked 4th in the state of New Jersey.

I knew that too and for whatever reason when I was typing, I kept wanting to put him at Don Bosco. I convinced myself that he was from there. Oh well, you are correct, my fault. My point still stands that Don Bosco is a football powerhouse, just not the same one the Countess came from. Thanks for the heads up.

This staff is making moves in 2014! I'm always interested to learn about in-state recruits being offered. Not too many come from northern Michigan. In recent memory, Zettle might be the only one not from Traverse City.

Most of the D-1 football recruits are like all the Bollough brothers (not sure if we offered), Rocko Khoury, Fisher (like you said), but Zettle is from West Branch. Do know of any other recruits that Michigan has shown interest in recently that are not from Traverse City? Seems pretty rare. If there are D-1 prospects, my guess is that programs like Central, Western and Eastern Michigan show interest more often than Michigan does. And for obvious reasons. Most of the talent from the state of Michigan comes from Detroit and Grand Rapids.

The only D1 I can think of off the top of my head is Dan Bazuin from McBain. But yeah, like you mention, ended up at CMU. I think he ended up being drafted by the Bears, but I don't think ever made it in the NFL. Probably good enough to play on bigger D1 teams though.

I actually got to play against Bazuin (in HS) and got in a block or two against him. I was a senior and he was only a sophmore at the time so.......

This class will be, but who knows after that.

And I know recruiting is exciting...but you don't want big numbers, that means youth. We want experience.

Give me a couple 15 man classes, I don't care about being #1 in the country in recruiting. I want to be #1 on the field. And you need RS Juniors, Seniors and RS Seniors to do that.

I'd like a higher rated prospect sometimes, but that's just me star gazing.

My guess is that the raft of additional DE offers for 2015 indicates one (and maybe/probably both) of the following:

1.  Staff believes McDowell is gone

2.  Staff not confident in shot with Jashon Cornell.

Am I reading too much into this?

I don't think offers to 2015 defensive ends have anything to do with Malik McDowell. We're also offering 2015 cornerbacks. Does that mean we don't have confidence in Jabrill Peppers, Brandon Watson, etc.? You offer defensive ends in every class.

I also don't think it has much to do with Jashon Cornell. The coaches were trying to sell him on the fact that he was their only offer, but whether you're confident or not, eventually you have to broaden your horizons. You can't leave that as the only offer for the entire recruiting cycle. They can still tell him, "Hey, you were our first offer and our only offer for a long time. We really like you."

So...yeah, I think you're reading too much into it.

For what it is worth, I have no idea why the experts seem to think Thiyo is coming here. I was checking a few things on twitter and noticed someone had mentioned him. So I went to his page and he is a huge MSU fan. He was also talking about going to the Breslin Center and committing to MSU. So, it is good to follow crystal ball predictions and everything, but remember the experts don't always get it right. It seems like Thiyo may be an MSU commit very soon. If nothing else he is a huge MSU lean.

To counter punch that though, Kareem seems very excited about the Michigan offer. So that is a huge plus for what should be a top 50-100 guy in 2016.
